They can't fix it without completely redesigning the game. When you put processing on the client you open yourself to this kind of attack. Nothing will stop it, and bans aren't sufficient to stop its abuse.

 

 

and honestly it really sucks.  because there are a few things that darkfall had that many people have been really REALLY looking foward to.  like the ship that got hacked.  its too bad they did such a bad job with the rest of the game that it just doesn't feel worth playing to get to the features I'd love to see in every MMO I play.

If it's really the case that the issue is something as fundamental as the way they have coded the game to process 90% of stuff client-side, then that right there is gonna be the final nail in DF's coffin.

Forget bad graphics, repetetive gameplay, or any of the myriad (and perfectly valid) complaints about the game, that alone should be enough to A) put prospective buyers off, and B) convince even the most rabid fanboy that the game is fundamentally flawed.

I agree that it's a shame, DF could have been very, very good, if it wasn't so very, very bad....

It's a shame really. When I first heard about that game I decided to keep an eye on it as something showing some promise. I gave up on the idea after being unable to find out anything useful at all from their website. I've never seen a video like that before, it's not looking good is it? Beginning to think I had a lucky escape - wouldn't touch it with a 20 foot barge pole now

LMAO!!!!  I love how the dude just floats up out of the water like he's Jesus, and all the players in the boat just stand there.  Then he takes the boat and flies all around the world.  If you think about it, these hackers have added a new feature to the game, flying ships, something the Darkfall developers were too newb to do themselves [see photo above].

It reminds me of the worst hack I ever saw in a game, some dude somehow managed to take one of the castles in the game and ride it all around the game world like a frickin' horse.....

You just wait. I'm sure Tasos will post a whine thread complaining to Youtube for bringing the game down by allowing the advertisement of "isolated incidents", and that DF is a niche game, and there's nothing like it.

The people saying it's a hack do not understand Darkfall and you shouldn't listen to them. It's not hacking. It's hardcore. We do not tolerate hackers, and they are banned the second they log in.

Darkfall is the most complete and bug-free MMORPG on the market. If anyone says otherwise, I will pull their info from our databases to prove they didn't play it long enough and don't know what they're talking about."

Haeso 4000+   Join Date: Aug 2008	Apparently that guy selling the boat had a legit boat, they're still trying to figure out where the one stolen by hacking is... I'm not sure why it has taken this long, but at least they're doing something. Apparently they took the boat from the guy selling it, then checked the logs, verified it wasn't mine, then gave it back. This is kinda silly, but on the other hand very encouraging and makes me feel as if they might indeed get it back to me. Please note, however, that it took a significant amount of time for support to respond and, even though this incident has been made extremely public, there has yet to be any public response from Aventurine.  That's pretty disappointing, although not unexpected, since effective customer communication is most certainly not one of their strong points.  They really need to publically address such a visible and blatant hack or else they're only suffer further harm.

BTW - this must have been done by one of the remaining 10% (23) of  the 236 cheaters identified  almost a month ago! "We will keep aggressively detecting and banning players that cheat in the game".  How's that workin' out?

I would assume so. All BS aside when anyone of us makes a commitment to a MMO, and that is precisely what it is...assuming you are COMMITED to the long haul, you have alot of baggage invested in the game, you also may or may not have dragged friends along, or been dragged ;} and may have convinced your "guild" to play it as well. So yes, you hope it improves, fact isnt that really the story of every MMO? I cant recall one ive played that was static perfect.

As 'wtf' moments go, that's one of the finest examples I've seen.

No because i am enjoying a great and fun game.  The weird thing is, the game how talked about on forums seems very different to the game i play.

normally with hackers i say ignore them...but thats pretty freaken hard to ignore.

Sucks for you guys too because i heard those boats are quite hard to get.

They will never stop the hackers from hacking..But i do admit i give it a 10/10 and Darkfall a 2/10 for poor performance...haha
