per account or per server? I think all limit you to one degree or another, most give a half dozen or so per server it seems. I could not find any other western MMO that limited you to less than the # of classes per account though. I could be wrong, I tend to pick one server and stick with it in my games. Will need a altaholic to answer this one. |

I guess WoW is a pretty standard game and they have the following: Max is 50 total with a 10 / server limit. With 9 classes, so you can create a full set of classes on 5 different servers and have 5 left over.
In Aoc you can create a max of 8 over all servers, out of 12 classes and have to pay $/€15 for an extra one to a max of 11 (come the new patch) |

I think the price is too high. Firstly doesn't take into account the exchange rates and secondly every other game I brought extra slots I got twice as many for the same price. What is good though is with patch 1.05 essentially many classes will play differently enough. If you get your free slot then that is a nice gesture to try something new out. What they need to work on next is paid character server transfers at a decent price.

Guild Wars. You get 4 slots with the first campaign and 2 slots pr. extra campain for a total of 8 slots. There are 10 different primary professions in GW. Extra character slots are available for € 8.99 each. Seems like a nice price considering the game has no monthly fee.
Only MMO-players manage to start an argument over the amount of "sparkling" in a lightsaber... |

What, AoC only gives you 8 character slots across all servers when there is 12 classes? And now they want you to pay 15$ to get more slots? And people in LotrO complain they only get 7 slots PER SERVER with 9 classes. If WoW = The Beatles |

Darkfall only allows you to have 1 character total ( they only have 1 server). I can understand a limit on characters per server, but I don't get why they don't allow more characters overall. WOW is 50, I can't see how AOC would require that much extra disk storage. It is a nice vet reward though. |

Originally posted by Jackdog Gee and I thought they were selling another character slot not charging for a transfer...let me read that again.....ohh they are charging for another character slot..your mistake Oh and another thing I have subbed to the game twice and plan on subbing again after 1.05. I don't thimnk you can classify me as a "hater" , however I am not a brown nosing shill either when do they start selling weapons and armor?
The extra char slot does not affect me or you or pvp .so you quit (or never played) AOC. If you quit: you hardly have all your slots taken same if you never played. Typical of MMORPG:com whiners to turn something positive like reward into drama. So you were not here (and probably never will since you're just here to whine) and now you have to pay 15$: tough luck buddy |

After some thought I think this was in reaction to next quarters financial projections and the stock holders reactions. Just funny as hell seeing them adopt SOE as their role model, loser meet bigger loser LOL |

I dont think it is a good vet reward. However i am willing to be corrected if i am wrong. A vet reward, to me, should be something of a status symbol which can be displayed in game. For example a mount, or decorative armor for a mount , a cape, etc. Giving an extra char slot to a player who has only one (or possibly) two chars is a complete waste as they will never use the 9th slot. Giving an extra char slot to a player who is an alt-aholic is a step forward but still falls short of the player being able to create a complete set of charecters(class wise). A vet reward should benefit all vets not a certain type of player(alt-aholic) IMHO.
Thanks for replies on different games with different limitation, i can fully understand GW restriction and subsequent purchase of extra slots, as the game is quality and yet F2P. LOTR, seems strange they too restrict the number of classes, but it is far far better than AoC. I also think that the levelling time to max level determines the number of chars slots, as the longer it takes to max one char the less char slots are required. In AoC levelling time is relatively short hence the need for more slots.
Another point i would like to highlight is that as far as i can see restriction of char slots is simply a way for the company in question to make extra revenue as, as far as i know there, is no detrimental affect of having more, besides server space, which is so cheap it is not really worh mentioning, thoughts please? |
