The only people I trust with my isk is me and my real life friends. I don't care who or how many people say something is legit, once that isk leaves your wallet consider it gone. |

Thanks for posting, OP, I was about to post a similar thread myself. I played Eve back in beta, and for a while after launch. I've been back to it a couple of times since, and I really do like the game. In truth, I'm not sure what it was that lead me to leave the game on multiple occasions. One thing that has worried me about returning (and is probably the only reason I haven't) is how 'noob friendly' this game is. When I say noob friendly, I'm not referring to the community, but more the game itself. I mean, the way it works means that those playing for years on end *will* be better equipped/skilled than those who have just started. Would it ever be possible to 'catch up' with them? I remember playing my beta character a while ago, and how much trouble I had in joining a corp! They wouldn't trust me - apparently saying you're a 'noob' with an account of that age looks a tad suspect. Lol. Anyway, I've read this thread and it's got me tempted to give it another blast - watching Startrek *really* got me craving Eve again. ;)

Personally Im just in love with this game. So well done - Ill be subbing up very soon myself so I can get access to the better ships in the game. Still a bit torn on what I want to do overall so Im skilling up in a few different areas at the moment. That way I can choose what I want when I want... of course all this takes time but I figure that's something I have plenty of :) Great game, and very glad to have you aboard... Im sure if you get into it you'll like it just as much |

wow!!, 1 thing i must say im really glad that i found and read this thread, and yay, it;s my 1st post here as well!! =D EvE is a game that i always wanted to play, but sadly, i was hooked with WoW first, that is why i kinda put EvE out of the picture but as time goes on, now im really2 bored with the pretty much the same End Game as always, even how many expansion they release, which only requires you to Raid every day and nothing else except to go Battleground and finally i decided to find an alternative MMO that is different from the rest of the world and i think this time im making the right decision to start playing EvE, because i had been always a fans of sci fi space genre games, and yes, i do regret that i did not realize this sooner. im installing the game right now, and boy i'd love to meet all of you in the game after reading this, i decided to start out as a Miner as well, because i know i will be overwhelmingly confused when i enters the game ( now on 49% download ) and at least to find some money is the best way to start for me and hopefully i can find a medium or small corp at the very first to start off my career and i dont think it'd be good to start out as a bandit or pirate with no advanced cruiser at all, and probably do some missions at the start well, i hope i can get an advice or two from the seniors here in the game =( however, i have 3 questions that i want ask, i know this is a time-consuming MMO, especially for newbies, but what i want to know is, does this game requires you to always stay logged in? i mean.. like is it fine for me to skip playing for.. let say 2 days, will that 2 days effect something in the game and for my career? second question is.. what do the pvp means in EvE? is it like raid? or just simply to attack the vessel of another players and steal and hijack their vessels? and as an MMo game, is there a monster boss that we must kill (Raid) ?
third it;s the races and bloodline and Ancestry does it effect in game career? what does the bloodline and ancestry have to do with anything? if so, what are the best bloodline for each races?
thanks.. you guys have a very good community! i like it already! looking forward to enter the galaxy! So What Now? |

To answer all 3 questions of yours: No. Read some EVE guide for new players posted here or google up one because you seem to expect EVE being WoW in space which is definately (yet) not. |

I don't know why all these newbies want to be miners! Sure, if you got a greater calling to mine rocks that's fine and all but if you are just passing up pvp just cause you got no 'advanced cruiser' thats just bullocks. This weekend my fleet commander got a kill in a rookie ship with some drones in it. Granted, he was in a gang wit the rest of us in t1 cruiser/frigates but still....
I see newbies get kills all the time yo. Don't pass up pvp cause you think you need a fancy 'cruiser'! This ain't WoW. There are no levels here. Tech 2 cruiser variants are merely more technologically advanced. They not gonna 1 shot ya (well certain ships might but thats different lol). Just form a gang with a buncha newbies and see what you can kill. We bring newbies along all the time and I see them get kills |

Just wanted to say that it makes me happy to see a new generation of people with hardcore attitude and enthusiasm getting started in eve. Be warned there can be a plateau phase around 2-3 months where you may feel limited by skills/ isk. This passes. Real life is making it hard for me to log in very often, but feel free to send me eve mail in game (same screen name) if you need help with anything- I'll get back to you as soon as I can. Cheers. |

Eve is a fun game, but like all MMO's it has grinding - You grind real-life time to train skills - You grind Asteroids, Missions or 0.0 Belt-rats for ingame money (Just 3 of the many ways of making money) - You grind Missions for standings Eve is not a space combat sim like Freelancer or the X series, it has no WSAD controls. After the tutorial missions are done your told about the Epic arc, after that you are on your own, Eve doesn't spoon feed you. The more effort you put into learning about Eve and how to play Eve before you start playing can be the difference between enjoying your time ingame or floundering, lost & overwhelmed by the possibilities open to you. |

Just jumped back into the fray myself with a free 5 days. I created my char back in 2003, have played on and off, only just getting close to 2mill SP! One thing I really do like is the addition of the certificates which are great at steering you into getting your skills. It's was always overwhelming I thought and this really takes the edge of it. Here's everything you need to know: wiki.eveonline.com/wiki/Certificates
Also, I've found a couple of really good guides which may be useful if you haven't seen them yet:
The first is a Halada's great 64p Mining Guide: www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp www.lsjv-eve.com/completeminersguide_v2.2.pdf
Next up is the Beginner's Guide to Piracy: www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp dl.eve-files.com/media/corp/TheOrangeGuy/Beginners_Guide_to_Piracy_2.1.pdf
I think I'm going to follow the mining guide for a bit and generate some funds, then switch over and start on the Piracy guide, hehe Feel free to look me up ingame, char is Althalus |

If people are really interested in mining, look for a corp w/ a POS in a WH. I have never really seen the income potential myself but I usually keep a covetor in a POS just in case I get the urge. In a WH any player can mine Arkonor Bisot or any high-end ore in relative safety. You have to kill the sleeper frigs, you have to be able to keep an eye on the scanner and you have to find a way to get the ore out of the WH. This means a Freighter or a whole lota trips in an indy when you can find access to High Sec. If you can do these things your looking at an income close to but not quite at the level of level 4 missions, but it is alot faster than missions and can be done AFK to some degree. One full hanger is worth about 1/2 a billion isk and can be easily filled in 7 to 12 days. Not to shabby if you currently running level 3 missions! |

There is only as much grind in EVE as you allow it. 'Real-life' time skill grind...How is any grind involved in real-time skill system? |

Nope, it is not too late to start. The vets have an edge, sure, but thats the same in all mmo's Alot of things have been made easier and more newbie friendly. Sure, skill training is time based, but there are serious diminishing returns, allowing newbies to get relative closer to veterans. And with T3 I believe you can lose skills, so if you stay away of T3 in the beginning, you will also gain ground. Besides that, there is knowledge to be gained, alot of it, so you can increase your power compared to the vets if you learn more faster. Finally, you can, and have to, set your own small scale goals, like my 1st goal was getting into a frig and do level 1 missions, then I wanted to get to level 3 missions, then I wanted to get good standing with a an npc corp to get access to jumpclones and meanwhile get certain certificats Meanwhile you can also dream of a bigger goal, like joining a 0.0 corp and climb up the corporate ladder and fight for sovereignity and control a piece of space. etc. So again, it is never too late to join EVE. Finally, don't give up too fast either, it may take a while to get into it.
