Pulled from the official DFO forums.  It's a norwegian game site.
The reviews impressions mirror that of Eurogamer's.
How excactly did Ed write the review without playing; yet this guy did and wrote almost the exact same things?

http://gamereactor.no/anmeldelser/11...rkfall+Online/

Google Translate:

It feels like an eternity since I first heard about Dark Fall Online. When there still was a hobby game developed by an enthusiastic bunch of Norwegians who in 2002 moved to Greece to complete the dream game. Now, after nine years of development, it is here. If you can find it then.

It is the fact that Dark Fall Online has been launched in secret. The game can be purchased, through a complicated process over from the game's website. It is important to be there on the correct date and at the right time to have the opportunity to press a buy button that disappears as soon as a small number of copies have been sold. This game is really only available for a dedicated number of players who are willing to complete a kind of mini games for obskurt at all to be allowed to play it. Hardcore, in its correct sense, really.

And hardcore is a stamp that does that Aventurine carries with pride in the Dark Fall Online. On the surface this seems like a fantasy NOK based online role-playing game where you must build up a character that can fight with and against other players in a big world. But where games like World of Warcraft does its best to keep fresh players in the hand and give them a gradual introduction to the concepts and spillmekanikkene throws Dark Fall Online into the only religious with a sword in hand and expect you to manage yourself.

Game system in Dark Fall Online gets me to think back to the 90-century. A colleague of mine at Akers Mic was helfrelst for Ultima Online that he had ordered from the United States. "It is so fat, you mååååå try it" he said to me every day on the job, but when he told what he actually did in the game I was more amazed than the desire to play.
- Yesterday I sat and trained me up in the sword in four hours.
- How do you do it?
- You click with the mouse on a training doll.
- In four hours?
- Yes, death cult, now I'm much better with swords!

And it is also Dark Fall Online added up. Where other network RPG based on the figures go up in levels and get new skills when they reach various levels is Dark Fall Online skill-based, you can train up the skills you want, and they trained to use them. So you run a lot of you are trying to run and get the bonus in stamina. Rests you much you will be better at rest. And use the sword much are you trying to use the sword.

On paper this is a system that works well, and in many enspiller games are you well implemented, but it reminds more of a stuffing in the Dark Fall Online. Where developers may have thought that a player should be good at using magic missiles to shoot at the enemies and monsters running all around and shoot missiles and ildkuler and bow and arrows on trees and stones and the house wall everywhere. For every time you use a skill you will be tiny bit better in it. So you want to become a powerful player soon, it is advisable to sit for hours to shoot arrows at a stone wall or throw spells on the bushes. The process can be facilitated by using macros that make the game starts magic or shoot arrows for you. On a forum I was even recommended to see a movie while the game "trained figure with my macros.

And here I cave in too. I play that game to be entertained, and that MMO games have a certain proportion of grinding is not something new for me, but this feels just for old-fashioned. It seems that developers have been big fan of the direct skill system used in Ultima Online, and has aimed to create a more modern games with a similar system, and that they have to some extent succeed with. But it's just that I can imagine one hundred fun things to do than to sit for six hours in front of a screen carving stone and wood to create one thousand arrows to be shot in a stone wall. One can implement a skill system in a more galant manner, as in Eve Online, where the figure of the coach itself when you are logged off.

Another item Dark Fall Online is proud of is that the game essentially is placed around the players will fight each other, so-called PvP, and then in a fairly dangerous and brutal version. PvP is not on dedicated areas where you lekeslåss as in many other RPGs. In Dark Fall Online you can be attacked by other stronger players anywhere. And you will be killed by a risk that he has taken everything from you when you have woken up and taken back to your grave stone. It is hard and brutal, and it gives the game a nerve that few other online role-playing game has. You must constantly keep up with the surroundings, and feel free to throw a glance or two extra on the opponents that anytime you have a desire to run his sword in you. I like the lighter paranoid mood.

But such a system also has its disadvantages, and it is extremely frustrating when one or another powerful brat's and hangs in a beginners and butcher all the Freshman game as soon try to make some simple starting mission to get some gold and equipment again and again. Time after time. The losing mass equipment you have collected can also be a very traumatic experience. Mercy delivery and, to use the expression again, hardcore.

There is much one can hide behind the term hardcore. For example, the menus to the game. When you move in Dark Fall works as a first person shooter, using wasd buttons to move on and can jump and duck and use objects. Instead of having various spells and actions on the selected buttons you have to select an active object and enable this. Should you use magic you need to put away the sword, take up a spell, then select the formula you want and do this, and then press the use button. Yes, it is just as cumbersome as it sounds to. Play Mechanical do this you must plan ahead and have the order of things when you drive and switching between weapons and active actions, and not just hit the game 1-2-3-4 buttons as in other online role-playing game, but still. I feel as I play an old Amiga games with joysticks, which had such limitations because of the lack of buttons on the stick rather than a proven design decision.

Another strange design decision is that you must press the right mouse button to bring up the menus, look in his backpack, to provide the chart, check your skills and the like. But by pressing the right mouse button stops Monday also up. The figure will be as glued to the ground each time you enter the menus. Do you have any for you as you flee from, and shall enter the equipment screen to change the helmet must be pretty still while you take off your old and on up the new helmet. This may not sound so annoying when I describe it, but it cuts up the game in an unfavorable way. You feel that you put the game on pause every time to be in your backpack or check the status of a mission to do, as opposed to modern web RPG that flows much better between the menus and game.

Also the list of equipment you have with them is chaotic, everything is slengt in a pile in the backpack, and even if you get bags and opportunities to finsortere eventually it is a cumbersome system. To take equipment from enemies you have defeated require that you finklikker on tiny objects and they go from one window to another. I understand the thinking behind that is that it will take time to strip players they have defeated the assets, but again the idea works better than the practical implementation. It feels more like a burden than fun to drive to sort the assets and take the items from enemies you have defeated.

As I mentioned earlier is PvP - fight between players - the main focus of the game. Do you like to do missions and fight against monsters in the online role-playing game you should find another game, the mission is rarely a peaceful affair when other players at any time can come and shoot you in the back. In addition, the monsters usually stick stupid, and at best works solo missions in Dark Fall as a great training in the combat system.

In Dark Fall, you must namely physical aim of enemies to fight and press the left mouse button to switch. Pull the sword out of sheath changes the game to a third party so that you can more easily maneuver, aim, and block. It applies to have the enemy in the cross-term when brakes loose. Use the arrows you may aim a little ahead of an enemy of speed. It is action-driven and works really quite satisfactory. But it strikes me also that some schizofrent, I feel that my skills with a view to the right and hit the right has much less to say than my figure opptrente their skills. Comes a figure with high skills and try them on a figure with low skills, it seemed to me that that with high skills will win no matter how good I play is to run, the aim and press the block button.

Graphic is not Dark Fall as much to boast of. As a rule, it looks okay NOK, but most figures are extremely ugly of appearance. The animation is quite stiff, and we have simply become accustomed to the better from our games today. The menus also have a vanvittig old-fashioned look with big frames that most of the residual graphics from an old Amiga games. Sound is not much to be impressed, either of music or sound effects. Many sound effects seem like they are from completely different sources, and it has not been made any attempt to get an overall sound which sounds like they belong together.

Despite that I have highlighted many negative qualities by Dark Fall here, I see some qualities also. There to join a guild with dedicated players who can work with are fun, but it is fun no matter what kind of online role-playing game to play. A good social cohesion can have a lot to endure the most horrific spill, and for me does not the little insight I provided me in politics and clan playing in Dark Fall Online no worse than in other online RPGs. On the contrary, much of it is more exciting than in other games because of the large focus on open PvP.

The biggest problem I have with Dark Fall Online is that the game has too many annoying elements that feels old-fashioned, outdated and unnecessarily complex, so I simply do not manage to have so fun with the game that I would like would like. Maybe I'm not hardcore NOK, maybe I am a simple "care bear" that requires to get my gaming served a little more sophisticated and available. There is no doubt that a good portion of players who have fun with Dark Fall Online, and who like the uncompromising game mechanics and the anarchic game. But for me this was an evil wind of being spillmekanikker and cumbersome solutions that I can hardly recommend to others.

Conclusion:

Graphics: 5
Gameplay: 4
Sound: 3
Durability: 4

Our rating: 4 / 10

Plus:
Paranoid atmosphere, exciting open-world PvP
Minus:
Cumbersome menus, extreme grinding, poor presentation

He said the game is complex, that means a retard can not play it.

Also the skill grind and a lot of stuff got fixed with th patch, too bad he could not wait.

This is another biased review, but someone who plays wow or warhammer and does not enjoy sandbox's. Plain and simple, CCP eve had bad reviews as well as SWG when they first started, SWG died due to much changing and Eve is still kicking.

Of course it's biased.

IT'S A REVIEW!  It's supposed to be biased.  The entire point of a review is that someone else plays the game and then tells you if it's worth playing.  So far 2 official reviews have agreed that the game is bad.

Maybe you should try checking out the official forums.  Not very many people are happy with the patch.
It doesn't make things easier.  You're trying to spread the perception that it does because they uped the skill gains.

You have to HIT a valid target to get a skill gain.  Missing gives nothing.  That will make it HARDER, not easier.

But of course you don't like the review and naturally the guys got some sort of an agenda.
Tell that to the dwindling playerbase.

Well then I think the 1rst non biased review will be the one that gives the game 8 and above. Man some people are blind!

Yeah.
I had to read it pretty slow in some parts.

Apparently google translator also translates PvP as WoW PvP.  Rather odd.
The original poster had to edit a lot of the translation because of it.  A lot of people thought the guy kept comparing DFO pvp to WoW pvp when he wasn't.

Several Norwegian speaking players actually pointed out the translation error.

He said the game is made for pvp. And he is right, everything else is secondary. The review is right, if you like pvp you will like this game, he said 4 on game player, because 3 were missing because crafting isnt the best, and 3 were missing because you have to use a brain for finding mobs and it takes time.

You can have someone stupid review a game, he needs to have a understanding of a game that does not hold your hand and show you the way all the time.

If he would of played eve, or pre cu swg, then he would most likly love it.

The hardcore rpger's do not like it, the hard core fpser's do not like it, but the ones in between love it, like me.

I think the review needs to be done by someone who likes fps'ers and rpgs  and has a mindset of I want to get ready so I can kill someone.

To me if you enjoy WOW or WAR or One of its clones, you will not like it, but the niche who do not enjoy these and wants something new and different and very challenge, they will like it. IMO

Some people are blind to see that, its like they are retarded, o wait dfo is complex, no wonder why you are not playing. LOL!

I think it was a very fair review.  Now that we have two bad reviews from two different sources, it isn't looking good for Darkfall.  No matter how you spin it, people look at scores.  If the scores are low, then people move on.

In a utopian world this would work out like peanut butter and jelly but this is far from anything utopian so you will just have to deal with not everything going your way.

Two there should be; no more, no less. One to embody the power, the other to crave it.

I liked WAR, I did not like WoW. I liked Darkfall, I just didn't feel it was worth $15.00 a month currently. Also, most games, and just about all MMORPGs lack complexity. The game isn't that complex.

I dont know if I agree with this. I personally would like to see a Old Sandbox Vet that played UO review the game.

It's unfair to put this game up against a themepark, DF is like empty im sure a person used to quest stacking is going to find DF lame.

Two different game reviewers gave it a bad score, why the hell would you think someone would give it a +8 when the game is BAD?

All reviews post its pros and cons and then submit a final average score. The game got a 4 of 10. the game sucks, you all wasted money get over it.

Girlfriends come and go but Epic battles are Soulbound

I smell another "WAR Video" coming for this reviewer.

Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...
