Oh, you two lovebirds. It is 15-16 years since I played a pen and paper roleplaygame. I don't even remember anything about encoumbrance, well I have forgot alot of things about it. (Yeah I notice that one of you is being sarcastic, but let's neglect that for the sake of argument.) I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention. |

Of course it was! Our DM would start us with 15gp and the players handbook to buy our crap. I could never spend the full 15gp AND not be over encumbered. We would often have to leave copper coins or semi-valuable (but bulky) items behind in the dungeon. "Did encumberance play a big part in PnP", he says. Silly goose. Encumbrance used to be in Vangaurd, but they took out a year or so ago - around the same time alingment/good vs. evil was removed. As it stands now - My character has stacks upon stacks of ore and gems he carries around, tons of crafting materials, two sets of armor (one for tanking and one for dps) and 4 weapons, a bow, 300 + arrows plus a crap load of quest materials. Do I ever get bogged down? Heck no! It's Vanguard!

Hehe, I remember encumberance from EQ1. Once, I looted so many rusty weapons for resale in Paw I couldn't make it back to the vendor. My friends had to come help me so I could off-load all that junk and get it to a vendor. That said, I don't miss encomberance in Vanguard :) |

back in best vg had encombrance. But really it was a huge pain. Once you had you adv gear, crafting gear, harvesting gear, and diplo gear you could no longer move. It made you restrict your characterto only adventuring or go to the bank and swap stuff around a lot. It was not good in VG where you have gear for each sphere... |

Well I think you are also pointing out a difference in how you play or played P&P. "Last time you played you had that armor... how come you have this now?" "Oh, you have built a castle, how intruiging!" See where the road ends? The meaning of encoumbrance dissapears right away, in any game, when you have the possibility to even have more than one set of t-shirts on the back pack. Either you haul it back with a mule or something, but why staying the night/seesion for the DM to decide ok now we have sat here for a total session time, like 2 days, now you are back home with the loot. Encoumbrance was not a big part of the actuall time spent in the session.Maybe it was regulating things, but... Playing a part, major part or big part... I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention. |

That is an interesting thing aswell. That encoumbrance in EQ1 had in some ways more impact than in a P&P game. Actual "real life" time spent. I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention. |

I'm going to agree with this one, Vanguard has an end game, but I'm almost dreading getting there! lol
I've never felt this way in an MMO before - There's so much in the world I don't want to miss a thing, but I also can't possibly do everything!
I'm actually considering using the 'Reduce XP gain to 0%' ability to cover more content.
I've felt like an adventuring hero from the word go and I just keep growing in power!
Vanguard has taken me back to my pen and paper days to some extent, I get that kind of feeling from it although of course nothing can compare to an all nighter rollin' dice!
Lol, I agree. I have 2 main chars for that reason. I'm leveling disciple who will be for raids and high end content (crafting, house, boats, gaining AAs). He is 32 atm. I also have a bard twink level 10 with exp turned off, who is geared very well for his age and he is made for exploring the world and content. I love how fast bards can run. When I do all 1-15 quests and dungeons on him, ill get him to 20.

I use the "no xp" buff a lot recently. I have enough mains at maxlevel; the rest of my characters are there for enjoying the game and seeing everything. |
