I have to go with Vanguard, it was supposed to be the WoW killer I know that term is used a lot but thats what we all thought it was, we thought it would return us to the glory days of EQ. Exploration, fun, grouping, etc. it was supposed to be THE pve game.I think it turned out to be the biggest flop in mmo history. http://helpourfuture.blogspot.com/ save our future. |

Personally, Vanguard was a huge disappointment. I also have to mention D&D. I'll admit, I have no clue what the game is like now, but at launch it wasn't for me. Z http://www.TheIronZ.com |

Vanguard had a rocky launch but its an awesome game. Biggest disappointment is hands down dark and light. Lots of things promised and the game was crap. Asheron's call 2 is also supposed to be a huge disapointment but never really played it , so cant really comment on it. |

For me, WAR. I was hoping for a fusion of WoW-style PvE and DAoC-style RvR content and instead got a watered down mush whose every aspect failed to live up to the hype or compete with existing games. PotBS isn't far behind though, I was hoping for a combination of a pirate-themed EVE with avatar combat, but found the ship-to-ship combat to be beyond boring. |

Warhammer, by far the biggest let-down for me. A pvp-centric game where it's better to pve to level rather than pvp. WIth a second point: If i wanted to play a scenario game i would have sticked with WoW. |

world of warcraft let me down the hardest when they made it into the retarded mess it is now starting back right before burning crusade, pvp ranks GONE (i had a high warlord). challenging 40 man raiding GONE they made it 24 person cake walk mode and all the new level 61 greens were vastly superior in stats to your 60 epic raid set. blizzard knows how to fuck a game up like no other. |

Darkfall
I am sry but i was soo hyped for this game and when they did nto deliver and had alot of problems getting out the door it was bad, the 1st 2 weeks they aloud peopel to use exploits and ruin the game , they originally said they did nto want toi stagger players into the game so everyone had a fair advantage but it was the opposite. the lack of customer support i think drove the nail in the coffin, but like any mmo it couls turn things around |

For me, I'd have to go with AoC.
Let me start by saying that I don't hate AoC, or Funcom, or anything like that. In fact I find myself coming back to AoC from time to time, just to see if and how things have progressed. But it's just that AoC has so much unrealized potential there - beautiful graphics and animations, great background lore to draw upon, etc. But some of the game mechanics (how PvP points are handled, the overly zoned feeling of the world, etc.) just ruins it for me. The mentality of the population doesn't help, but I guess that's true of most MMO's nowadays... |

With all due respect, I don't think everyone thought it was going to be a WoW killer. I think too often than not fans who need to have a WoW killer just label their favorite game of the month a WoW killer. If anything this helps to damn the new game when it comes out as quite frankly, most games will never be able to reach WoW numbers. In any case, Vanguard, even with it's issues is a much better game now then when it launched.

I have to agree with the others saying Gods and Heros cancellation. The screenshots looked hot... even compares well by todays standards... but that's not saying much with all these f2p thowbacks to 2005. |

There was no marketing of Vanguard that it should be a wow-killer, there were no adds, it was just you people who jump to every bandwagon that's going on. REALITY CHECK |

I have to say Vanguard , hype was so high and it sank so fast . 2nd place goes to Darkfall , i got so sick of hearing about this game and now look where it's at . To add to this thread the mmo's that really surprized me in 2004 was eveonline it got bad reviews even in gaming magazines i read but in the end it's a solid and fun game for serious mmo's gamers out there .

Um no we thought it was a WoW killer from the description and leaks and the developers blogs etc, not how many boxes it sold. http://helpourfuture.blogspot.com/ save our future. |

For me it would be either Vanguard or Darkfall. Both of those games were to me the perfect MMO and I could not wait to play them but as we know they did not turn out like the developers had planned or told us they planned.
