So what would make ultimate hardcore MMORPG which seems somewhat sought after...

So features that would be ultimate, not fun anymore likely, but ultimate.

1. FFA-PvP

2. Perma death

3. Realistic traveling, aka trip to next village would take a day in rl-time.

....

Continue ;D

In order to activate the game, there are clamps placed on your body. When someone kills you, they can choose to send and electrical charge through the clamps that will literally shock the crap out of you.

That would be hardcore.

Intresting one.

Next step would be one time content. You kill big bad boss, bad luck for next one he is dead and stays so. Also you could genocide whole races eventualy. Empty village or camp and next time it's empty or something else moves in.

Post apocalyptic setting with ranged weapons that 1 shot kill, including full loot etc.

also

In Hellgate, Hardcore mode meant you get one life.  If you get to level 50 and die, you're a permanent ghost, you loose access to your inventory, money, and you can't trade with other players.

This applied even in pvp matches.  Someone kills you toon, then it's a permanent ghost.

The only option after that is to delete your toon, reroll a new one and start all the way back at level 1.

I'd play that type of Hardcore in an MMORPG.  To me that would be the ultimate hardcore.

Your character would be controlled via a peripheral akin to a Wii Fit.

Your movement speed in-game would be based on your weight in real life.

There would be perma-death, but you could get around this by having virtual sex with an old-crone, dirty tavern wench or princess (depending on your level) and fathering a child to continue your legacy. This would require an additional peripheral.

Commiting a murder results in you being hunted down, arrested, and forced to share a jail-cell for 25 years with a 32-stone biker-dude known only as "Back Door Dave".

its not hardcore let alone ultimate hardcore unless when you die in game you die in real life, end of discussion, it was in a movie so now it has to be in a game for it to even be a little hardcore.   no real life death when you die in game and you aint hardcore at all, youre just a bitch ass carebear deal with it fool!

Sounds pretty much like.. Real Life.

I was flabergasted that nobody else yet has posted this.

Ask any of the UO devs from 1997 how well that worked for them.

I think Imhotepp pretty much nailed it. That's massive leap deep into the real of hardcore... and there's probably a niche that would do it, which is scary.

I agree. Realistic games you born then you grow up, all played in real-time. Also if it's fantasy game there is high probability you will die as kid. So it may take some time to reach adult life or even teenage.

Also no magical healing or such, you get hit in arm or leg, there might be infection and you might lose it. Then you would be invalid...

Well at least people wouldn't powerlevel to the end-game.

Then there would be groups of priests walking around resurrecting all the corpses.

Anything that is really hard is hardcore, even though at least some death penalty should be included.

To be honest I rather play the perma death game than the other 2, problem with it is that if an old character die the player is very likely to quit the game. But I can actually see myself playing that anyways, but in that case you would have to get more things to do than just fighting all the time. Fighting should only be one of the things going on.

Full loot PvP tends to turn into gankfeasts, it kinda bores me after a while. Real time travel just takes to much time, I cant spend days of doing nothing since I have a work.

Perma death do works in pen and paper games so it should work in a MMO too.

Actually I got addicted in Hellgate to dying then remaking.  The challenge was to beat my old records of getting back to 50 the fastest.  Plus, the advantage is that you can experiment with different builds.  If anything I wanted to quit less, and play it more everytime i died.  I also love the adrenaline rush you get when nearing death.  The only bummer is that you loose all your money and inventory (such as legendary/Unique gear).

If hardcore mode where like that in any MMORPG, i would probably get addicted like in Hellgate.

Edit:  Also when I experimented with different builds, I'd find myself becoming familiar with all the skill/spell trees.  Eventually I figured out with skill trees best suited my playing style.  If you ask me perma-death makes you into a better gamer and allows you to eventually (learning from past deaths) build a toon that really suits one's unique play styles.

- perma death

- lossing of xp when logged out

- one character max

- tradeskilling goes in realtime and not game-time

Just to name a view...yes i would play a game that would have it.

Point isn't making succesfull game, but see how far could hard-coresness be taken. I agree that some hardcore aspects wouldn't work, but still it's intresting thought of game.

Yeah, I know. Just taking a small jab at those who actually believe such a game would sell. ;-)

I'll make up for it by adding some points:

4. Full looting of players, including pick-pocketing.

5. Stamina system to prevent continual running.

6. Food and drink necessary to stay alive.

7. Character stays in-game, sleeping, while you are logged out.

8. Skills and Abilities improve through use, Knowledges increase through study.
