Massively first reported on a post on the official World of Warcraft forums from Community Manager Zarhym that confirms that the speculation as to whether or not the new Blizzard MMO would be based on the Diablo or Starcraft franchises is over. It won't be. In a post responding to the user statement: "People are saying that there is another MMO in the works at Blizzard. Seriously, if there was, they would be advertising it already." Zarhym told the forums that: "We have nothing to advertise for the new MMO because it's a shell of a game thus far. We've already stated it'll be a brand new franchise, which means the lore, art, and game play are being developed entirely from scratch. It's an overwhelming process, but a process through which we excel. Our track record supports this." So, as it stands right now, it appears as though Blizzard is going to stray away from their tested and true franchises and broaden their scope with something new. Cheers, |

Meaning its going to be eerily similar to someone else's IP. Whatever they do, hopefully it is different from the fantasy setting of most mmo's these days including WoW. Since they do have WoW I doubt they would make a game in the same type setting. Hopefully the creative minds at Blizzard come up with something totally new and fresh! |

I guess Blizzard has "officially" announced it will be a new IP, but people at worldofraids.com had figured it out months ago. It would be hilarious if it was a sandbox.

Bout time, I'm glad they are finally coming out with more original stuff, starcraft, diablo, and warcraft are all games that will be some of the best in gaming history, but its time blizzard went back to their old roots of amazing game creation and make something new and fresh.
As for the blizz haters, screw off, they made WoW originally, with no copying from anyone else. If you consider patching the game with third party mods or new MMO features that players noticably like in other games copying, then every MMO in the spectrum copys from others. I dont like WoW or play it, but doesnt make it anyless of an amazing feat what Blizz has done with their first MMO of hopefully many( hopefully they all vary greatly from each other ) Mess with the best, die like the rest |

Warcraft (series) = Warhammer. Starcraft = Warhammer 40k - Orcs. Not that they are not their own titles now, but come on, doesn't take a genius to see this.

No, its not the same. Its more like taking Firestone, and calling it Firestine. Sam tires, different names. You are wrong. Blood is correct in that Warcraft was modelled from Warhammer. I didn't play Starcraft enough to know how closely it may have resembled Warhammer 40K and as for Diablo - it was a pretty generic concept.
Having said all that... I still keep a local Diablo II game up to play. |

They said plenty of times before the new MMO would not be an existing IP, why is this news now? |

I am waiting for you or some one else to chime in with the classic yet 100% unfounded "Warcraft was ment to be Warhammer but GW decided to cancel" or the even funnier "starcraft was ment to be Warhammer 40k" Bottom line, Warcraft and starcraft play on the classic races and settings that all sci-fi and fantasy games, books and stories have always played on... Warhammer/40k created nothing original or can claim to be original in anyway... just as WoW/SC cannot.. its the story and characters that make a game great and Blizzard are masters at that.

Try using that defense in court when they sue you for copyright infringement. |

Whats with all the crying about blizzard games being based off something earlier? Every video game ever made can be traced back to a tabletop game, book, mythology, history, etc. geez..... |

I agree wtih you man, i think people trying to claim that warcraft online stole from warhammer universe is pretty stupid, it's like claiming that a game stole it's mechanics from a movie....or something considering warhammer came out after wow.... And no offense but I have studied the warhammer universe and I don't see any similarities between the two in question, and say lord of the rings, or c.s. lewis's books...so i mean if you really want to get nit picky, warhammer stole from conan. |

I'm not talking about the MMO's. If you guys can't see it, then there is no help for you. Its really very simple.

Try using that defense in court when they sue you for copyright infringement. WEll no offense but blizzard will never be sued by warhammer for copyright infringement because tehy didn't copy anything from them, warhammer wasn't an online game until this year. |

Sadly my friend, I think youa re the one who needs help. What you are doing is akin to looking at a show about the future, and saying wow, they copied back from teh future because the word future is in the same sentence. |
