i watch the foroums quite a lot mostly on lotro and df.and in DF forums i keep seeing haters for the game!can you tell me a serious reason on why do you hate this game so much?

btw havent played the game only saw some action from a friend.

But seriously half the crap I talk here is borderline trolling, on the haters side its pretty much the same. Its Aventurine business practices that make this game so fun to argue over.

Like the Ed Zitron/Eurogamer debacle. We all knew Ed didnt play the game, we all knew he had some points he was correct about from the little experience he had.

But the whole thing was entertaining.

I trully dont believe the hating brings the game down, the ones who wish to play it do.

Most of the trolls here have or have had an account or two.

Its not like a regular mmorpg...if you cant hack the garbage on the forums then you probably wouldnt be even interested in such a grief friendly pvp game.

Most of the arguing just provides free advertisement for DF, because potential fans might like the player made drama.

its because everyone who was really negative on DFO was booted out of the forumfall (what do you expect from the official forums of a game O.o ). Though after the launch of closed payed beta, a lot of forumfallers were turned negative too, but still, forumfall is no where NEAR as hateful on DF as the mmorpg.com forums.

Also smarter posters tend to be here too, they were booted out of the DFO forums by the illogical bullsh1t that goes on over there.

It's needed if you wish to have any form of backing to your argument, in the fact that you were insulting the intelligence of people who dislike Darkfall, only for having a difference of opinion than yours. Otherwise you have no credibility to the discussion, and only open yourself up to flames and complete disregard to any further opinions on the matter. The sole purpose of adding to a discussion, is to make your voice heard. How can that be accomplished if what you are typing is barely legible.

Seriously another thread about the same subject? If you have been following the DF sub-forum you would know there was at least 5 other threads asking this SAME question. Sorry I'm not trying to be rude, just tired of seeing the same topic baiting the same fanboys/trolls.

Your answer in a nutshell: There has never been a MMO that promised so much and failed to deliver so much. The company has some immature practices. Alot of ex-fans became haters once they realized their long awaited MMO turned out to be another MMO filled with failed promises. Yes, this game was in development for 8 years and turned out that bad. It has potential, but some players are just mad because they enjoy sandbox MMOs and they had to settle for DF until MO comes out, most are ex UO, SB and EVE players just looking for something new. I would provide more links but you get the drift by now. It seems like people are just starting this same topic over and over just to bait a flame war and the mods let it happen. It's getting old.

Don't go into the game expecting much, and you'll be suprised with an old school grindfest fun game (i like grind games), all out huge FPS match (with the obvious ill effects of bad lag in a FPS shooter), and AV's attempt at a sandbox-like game.

The game is good, not great.  I've played about all p2p and f2p mmos, and there will always be something I dont like about any of them, particularly the asian grind-fest same-ol same-ol games, but most of the haters are just uncomfortable with themselves and having the anonymity of the internet enables them to act out more freely.

The game is good, not great.  I've played about all p2p and f2p mmos, and there will always be something I dont like about any of them, particularly the asian grind-fest same-ol same-ol games, but most of the haters are just uncomfortable with themselves and having the anonymity of the internet enables them to act out more freely.

 

 

thats funny cause your doing the same thing in this statement haha. I hate the game because of the company and lead dev for the game. Both are jokes.

I am starting to believe that people are being paid to write bad things about this game becuase AV has not used conventional advertising or distrubution both of which are huge industries that would get very nervous if a game became even a little bit successful without them.

I am not some random jack who doesnt have a gaming background who just happend on DF thinking its good becuase I dont have experience. I have played plenty of games over the years and I am here to say this is one of the best ever made in its CURRENT STATE even. This is before expansion or major patch 1 even.

This is laughable. If you have played plenty of games and of course which ones would help, then you would know this just ins t true.

welp, i play the game, and i enjoy playing the game BECAUSE i play with irl friends and longtime online clan mates.

however, the game itself, has many glaring issues.  it's customer service/dev/pr is horrendous.

server down?  how would you know?  sure as hell won't be a post or anything on the website... tasos is too busy QQing about a bad review.  if there is no review to QQ for days on end about -- still won't be a post or anything on the website.

game is straight up - buggy and unfinished.

MMOs evolve.  they start with a base game and build upon that.  THAT is how MMOs change and are "never finished".

releasing a game in a beta state, that is NOT an example of an MMO being 'never finished', and anyone that supports that thought has never played an MMO for any appreciable amount of time, is lying, is a prime example of a sheeple, or is just stupid.

all these people with great reviews -- did you include your experience in purchasing the game?  did you have any billing issues?  did you feel that items such as THAT are important?  if not, why not?  you simply don't care enough about your review to be honest and helpful to others?  warn them of potential issues?

loading/closing the game - takes a hell of a lot longer than any other game i play.

the clipping is fine with you?  what about those dated graphics (even on highest settings), and why does this game demand so much from my system/video card?

gameplay?  to say that looting is anything other than clunky and poorly thought out... is to lie.   hell, i can't even just back up and hit someone back if i'm attacked while looting.  no... close interface view... arm weapon...

oh, it's probably the guy BEHIND me, running some lame figure 8 dance because, well, this game doesn't cost much stamina to sprint and attack and just spam lclick in a circle.   KICK ASS~!!! who has seen such intricate combat EVAH????????????   and no one can say i haven't been in a crapton of pvp in just the few days i've playing... not without lying.

macroing/grinding is an intrigal part of the game, but only if you want to be competitive... you can skill up thru normal play if you want to be cannon fodder.  otherwise, it's eq piles and wall of pain for you to afk at for all the hours each day, that you're NOT playing.  or grab your bow/staff and start running/crouch walking.

cuz, you need to get from lvl 1 to lvl 4 in each of your skills.... at lvl 3 in some skills, you can get an advanced skill, and skill up from lvl 1 to lvl 4 in the advanced as well.  that's as simple as it is.  there's 100 points, but only 25, 50, 75, 100 give you "stuff".  hopefully, there are skills that are exceptions to this rule...

the official website shows an entirely different game than what is available to play, to the point of intentional deception.  i'm pretty sure that's called a bait-n-switch, and false advertising and misrepresentation and in the States, that type.  don't think those are legal, are they?  if someone has time to waste days researching and whining about a single review, but not time to update a website, or just inform players about server issues -- yes, that's intentional and flagrant disrespect, deception, and even illegal at points.

all of that aside... the game is filled with bugs, crashes at random times, has memory leaks, has no lore/storyline, and the list goes on.

Games that have about 20 hours of play time in them I would indeed be worried about install time. MMO’s what I do the first day of the game and hopefully not again for another 4 years, no, I don’t worry about the game purchase and install.

The bottom line is this, if I leave this game, what game should I try instead? Because I can't think of one, any suggestions?

Everyone is being crtiical of DF because it's bad. 

You've got a development cycle of 6+ years, and what they've released is laughable.   It has little or nothing to do with how "hardcore" it is. 

Furthermore, they are charging what the big boys do for a game with little to no content, little to no polish, whilst they have availability issues. 

The game is niche, and that's not the problem.  The problem is that Tasos and Co. completely misrepresented what the game is, misrepresented the feature set, misrepresented what the engine is capable of, and generally released a garage production while charging the same price as a MMO produced by a top publisher.

I can seriously understand the challenges of what an independent developer faces, but, CCP is a shining example on how to release and support a product.  AV? Well, quite frankly, they've released a game that's worse than most F2Ps out there, and they are charging the same price as other products that provide more.

Hating? I don't think so, it's called expecting something for your entertainment dollar, that is, even you can even purchase it.

so, in saying this game is one of the best ever in its current state... that means you are counting the following items as POSITIVES:

clipping - grass poking thru boulders, sword going thru trees/walls, clipping all over and very evident/apparent without even trying to notice.

memory leaks

simple character creation - no options for changing the face itself (you can add tats (6?), earrings (10?), some piercings (6?) with the amount of choices i've shown, give or take a couple.  you can pick different color skin/hair.  can you change height? weight?  aside from coloration and a few pieces of jewelry/tats - you don't have much customization available.

poor tutorial, poor ingame help, horridly outdated website

no updates to server status or ongoing issues + eta/etr. crap goes down and tasos spends his time QQing about a bad review instead of updating the people paying for his game.

dated graphics.  that's fine, if you're not expecting much for graphics... but one of the best?  bull.

craptastic animations all around. not just talking character.  hey, that HUGE tree is swaying in the breeze... wait... the base of the tree, which is like 30 feet+, is swaying as well... is this a hurricane? why aren't i flying away?

default key mapping is idiotic.  shift to sprint.  load weapons using whatever number you've dropped it onto on the hotkey bar... oh but wait, shift + number (like you're sprinting and want to equip a weapon) actually changes to that number hotkey bar.  yes, lots of people have preferences and change the keybinds to suit their desires -- but i have never played a game, until df, where the DEFAULTS were done this jacked, to where you HAVE to change them, or be certain that you never need to equip a weapon while you're sprinting.  but that default keybinding, being unusable and idiotically done -  one of the best?

skilling up... you have 100 points... but you have 4 actual levels.  instead of saying it's 4 points and having a skill bar when you open the skill sheet (god knows that thing is big enough to support several damn skill bars per skill), it's 1.0 - 100.0 points.  misleading much?  4 bloody points total?  one of the best?  bah

hey, i killed someone, let's loot him... ok, sheathe my weapon.  stop moving so i can open the corpse.  open my backpack.  start moving one item/stack at a time from corpse to backpack... ouch i got hit. let me move back and hit him.. damnit, didn't change from interface view to action view.  ok, now let me... oh yeah, unsheathe my weapon, now.. damnit, arm the weapon.  k, now let me start running in a circle and do some lclick spam.  FANTASTIC combat???

macro/grind/afk necessary?  walls of pain and eq piles NEEDED?  well, yeah, if you're going to compete.  spamming mana missile and shooting your bow into the sky in order to raise skills?  well, none of that is needed if you just want to be cannon fodder.  but if you want to be able to resist a little damage and do more than just a little damage ... well yeah, macroing is every necessary.   one of the best eh?

there's a ton more, i'm tired of typing.  but all the above are examples of a game that's one of the best?

"oh i like it and have fun"  that is an ENTIRELY different statement than "this is one of the best games ever".  and these two statements CAN be mutually exclusive.

I think any time you have a whole bunch of people who have been eagerly waiting for years (many in this case) for a game to come out with a certain set of promised features, they are generally very upset when those features aren't delivered.

They are increasingly angry when the few features that did make it into the game are implemented terribly and nothing works right...

This is why you see such mass hatred for games such as AoC, DF, and WAR. Each of these three games had huge followings of people who believed that the game would be the next 'great' game, and each of them failed miserably to deliver everything that was promised.

Any time that happens (not just in games), people will be angry.

Furthermore, when people are already pissed by lack of promised content and features, they are absolutely infuriated when crazed fanboys (who seem incapable of seeing any wrong from the developers) come dangerously close to the brink of insanity with their desparate attempts to defend the game. Their crazed fanboy mindset only serves to discredit the opinions of those who are rightly upset by the absense of what was promised.

In that context its important to note that many think the GTA series are sanbox games and they are farthest from it.

One of the debates in this area is that the players themselves should create the so called "Lore".

What is 'lore' when the day is done anyway (which by the way I dont know anyone who actually reads quests in MMO's) Lore is stories of fallen kings, corrupted empires and the like. Is that not exactly what the clans are doing in DF right now?

Wasnt a large empire of two months just brought down this weekend? Yes

Did the entire server set aside their personal wars to decalare war on Eurogamer? Yes

What game other than EvE has had the players starting to work on a virtual democracy or set up a freetrade zone?

These are gamers ideas, not code.

How about you answer damians post, i would love to hear your opinion and arguments, you said this is one of the best games and you have played so much others. ok, he didn't even post 50% of the failures of DF but these are imo critical ones ... how do you think about them?
