Hahahaha....... Man, I remember playing good ol' dragon court ONE. Whew, super-fun turn based, picturesque based RPG! Well that was before I started playing Runescape too. Well, both are based on JAVA, so that's one thing. Dragon court came out in 1997, so it was a good game and a classic to remember. Dragon court was a haven from those horrible text based MUDs, and Runescape was a haven from static picturesque games like dragon court, dransik...etc.. Those were the days. |

Good PvP? Do you throw Jpegs or PNGs at them? |

I know I got a ton of rare armor and weapons, but logging in everyday and trying to keep it from rusting was a pain. Finally making it into the "Legends" or whatever they were called for high level players and getting access to your own special forums was pretty cool. I remember they hyped Dragon Court 2 up sooo much cause it was gonna be some 3d-ish semi-mmorpg and it turned out to be complete crap topped off with 80s cartoon sound effects! Damn was everybody pissed.
Oh and to the guy that said something about pvp. The way you kill monsters in Eternum online is that you click their 2d picture from anywhere on the screen and you "fight" them (all it really does is show the classic red star when you hit eachother). So that should answer your question about pvp. People seriously are comparing this game to Runescape? Its like a throwback to the free mmos of the mid-nineties except worst, or dare I go there? A terrible MUD glamourized with a graphic interface. ![]() Noble and true, you are the hero other heroes aspire to be. Um, I'm gonna go ahead and assume you don't know what "pvp" means...
PVP = Player vs Player Attacking a mob != PVP
Anyway, to answer the question: You can attack anyone outside of a city in Eternum, so yes, it has pretty good PVP. |

And if "attacking anyone outside a city" is the basis for good PvP then this game must've blew your mind =/ ![]() Noble and true, you are the hero other heroes aspire to be. I think the idea they are going for with pvp is the pre-Trammel UO idea: You are safe in cities and towns, possibly dungeons I haven't checked but anywhere else is fair-game (wildy, basically) but you get neg-rep for PKing which makes you unfriendly to the guards. And yes the combat is essentially the same as Runescape (red/blue blobs etc) |

But with Runescape you actually have to get close to hit them unless you're using ranged weapons. In this you just click from anywhere on the screen and you "hit" them no matter what. I ran into a zone with 3 high level aggros (who I didn't know were agressive at the time) and all of them hit me and I try to run and they keep hitting me no matter where I went. Even when I'm fighting something my level and it gets me to mid-low health and I try to run it still hits me no matter how far I run. So is that a bug or is that actually how the gameplay is supposed to be? I don't hate unforgiving gameplay, but this is just ridiculous. Like I said they were going for the gameplay of the old mmos of the mid,late-nineties, but those MMOs are still up and way better; an example would be Dransik a.k.a. "Ashen Empires" nowadays and even newer mmos like Conquer online have the same pvp (everywhere else is fair game except cities and you get neg-rep). And I'm sure those have better fan bases. I know people like the accessible browser based games, but there's no reason to settle on this. I'm sure if someone just looked they'd find a free indie browser mmo that already has alot of people playing and is better. ![]() Noble and true, you are the hero other heroes aspire to be. FYI Mobs with red names are aggro (IE WOW) and you need to be within their aggro radius for them to hit you (IE WOW) And yes you can attack any mob within sight, but your character does move up to it to attack it... I'm guessing this was a design decision to save you the effort of manuevering towards a mob before you can attack it. |

You'll not find a better browser MMO than Eternum, no way. As far as I'm aware (excluding Java, flash, plugin etc games like Runescape/Freerealms) Eternum is the only one that actually has proper graphics (I'm looking at you Estiah, Lands of Hope etc). In fact, I'd say 80-90% of the browser "MMORPGs" out there at the moment are nothing more than text-based management/link spamming games, they just use the term "MMORPG" as a marketing ploy. We had text-based RPGs before the MMO genre, they were called MUDs. We had management games too, they were called strategy games, not RPGs. |

In today's "Casual" market, most things are a deformed shell of what it used to be. There were also the games without strategy (Kingdom of Loathing FTW!!!) that were just turn-based, character building games. Even though it might not be some of you guy's tastes, interms of upcoming MMORPGs I would check out "zOMG!". Its browser based and its graphics are 100x better than Eternum or Runescape, in terms of gameplay its more along the lines of "Fusion Fall" (another decent, but Kiddy browser mmo). I heard "AdventureQuest Worlds" was good as well, but I don't know if they have a grouping system cause I haven't played it. I remember looking for a good browser based game (that already has been released) myself last year and I had a few names lined up, but never got to play them and eventually forgot about them. So I'll check on those and get back to you as to whether or not they are good.

Originally posted by Bonemane I just checked out zOmg, looks like it runs in shockwave/java so comparing it to an HTML game like Eternum is kinda unfair. Also I'm not sure if it beats Runescape's 3d environments graphically. As for Adventure Quest... that game is a joke. It's essentially a single player flash game that calls itself an MMORPG.

Played it for all of about 10 minutes and threw up. Seriously, this was epic fail. Even people who play Runescape would think this is epic fail. |
