The sale also resulted in "hundreds of thousands of dollars" in costs and tax liabilities, according to the complaint."
If they didn't reclassify him then he would have had up to 2.5 years (longer) to decide to take these options. The case will probably take that long to go to court.. so the point will be made or not made... if it goes that far. aka Either the shares will be worth more by that time or they won't. If in fact they are lower I don't see where he has a case at all because I doubt this will be decided soon(tm)... maybe it won't take that long tho... I mean if it did take that long and the stock was worth the same or less how could you argue that you lost money....
The main thing being that these are options... If he was so worried about the cost in tax liabilities he could have not taken the options.
I'm going to try and remain neutral on this one... I guess. |

Gove a talented producer, second rate development team that crapped out the graphics of a 1 gen mmorpg, I find hampering. I can't even imagine the annoying work environment he was compelled to work in under contract. When they have had the Crytek engine licensed prior to the start of T.R. , as well as the technologies for Ai ? I beleive they thought they could just use R.G. and the throw him away, buzz wrong, welcome to American Court's NcSoft. :) |

You guys should really read the complaint instead of throwing accusations at RG without knowing what you're speaking of. No, RG did not write this open letter announcing his departure. NCSoft did. RG was still in quarantine in Russia when this happened. He merely approved it at the time, unaware that his departure was deemed as "voluntary" by NCSoft. If he had known, he wouldn't have approved it, that's the whole point of the complaint ! Geez, I don't even know why I explain that, the few people who have truely read the complaint and understand the issue are a minority, flooded by the "RG said he left, so he has no case" posts.. |

I think he's looking for a little more money to take a 2nd trip in space......either way he took a gamble and lost. He put his stamp on the letter or are you telling me he approved it without actually reading it. Case close.

In reply to the topic at hand though, I personally blame the failure of Tabula Rasa on Richard Garriot. He is an idiot and even though NCsoft paid him (40+ million dollars) to be the head developer of TR, he decided to take the money and run off to space with it, creating hype for HIMSELF the whole time, while totally ignoring Tabula Rasa. He even had his own personal little website to brag about being a "second generation astronaught" but he totally refused to even aknowledge Tabula Rasa on this site. On his personal bragging site I even asked him a question about why Tabula Rasa wasn't getting new content added to it and one of his underlings totally blew it off. That proves to me he never gave half a *censored* about the game and I hope he loses his lawsuit aginst NCsoft and spends a long time in poverty, he deserves it. This is pathetic. Probably after going to space, he realized it was better to play EVE and surf space that way than forcing himself out of planet Earth! There is no case. I would like to see this in court and laugh hard. |

Well, he has right to sue the company, if he think they mistreated him. Let courts decide who was right and wrong. We really do not know the facts. It is actually funny how much hate there is towards the guy. I respect him for what he did create in the past. If he made few crappy games recently, it really does not matter much. Origin Systems produced some of the best games of their time, few which I played probably before some of you were even born. You might not like his ego or public image etc., but that really does very little to do with his court case or the games his company designed. Tabula Rasa was failure, but the hate towards it's developer is irrational at best. The same irrational behavior that is rampant against many other game companies that failed to meet standards. I judge things game by game basis. I might respect some companies because they have managed to do good games over and over again - like Blizzard, Bioware, Bethesda and old Origin Systems. But that does not mean that I start hating developers when they make few mistakes...heck you can always play something else. Originally posted by Zorvan01 Quoted for truthiness. He screwed himself by releasing that he was resigning. If NCSoft committed fraud, then so did he. Lord British got to go into space. I'd love to do that, but it'll never happen, because I'm not a multi-millionaire.
