I am an active critic of many Darkfall flows on the forum since beta, but Mr Ed Whateverhisnameis made me laugh badly. He should stay with his beloved theme-park MMO's and Eurogamer should give a chance to review Darkfall to somebody who actually is open for a little different challange.

The game is not polished, need balancing and offers no helpful hand for new players.We already know that. I knew that in beta but I decided to give the game a try anyway, it keeps my online longer then WoW or WAR.

What is your purpose here ? You don't contribute to community by your own DF experience, you don't ask questions or even give suggestions. mmorpg.com forum is the only mmo site that has alot traffic in forums related to df and yes it does create a lot of interest, but i am pretty sure that it won't fill tasos pockets, it's rather the other way around. which is good imo.

I have never read a single manual for any game I have played simply because all critical features are explained to you in some form of tutorial or in the process of key mapping to fit my preferences. I do not think it is his job to go read support forums or read through any manual.

 

Before I decided to play EVE, I read no less than 3 reviews, 6 new user guides on almost every topic then played the tutorial 2 times in the trial.  I mastered the game's learning curve and still play.  Other's don't take the time and hate it.

Same with DF, although I'll grant its not so much due to the games complexity but the fact a lot of user friendly tips and help isn't really in the game.  However with a bit of work, it is possible to do some research on the internet and figure stuff out, I do it all the time for every game I play.

The real problem with the review is it appears he based it on things he read on the internet and not from his actual playtime in game.

If so, he committed a cardinal error in honest reporting and that's why he deserves to be discredited.

 

Thing is, I was being sarcastic with my original statement. How so? Because those two resources don't exist. With the exception of the pop-up/tutorial at the beginning of the game, anyone is yet again relegated to dig into the forums to find any information about Darkfall. And as he mentioned in his review, asking anything is an excercise in futility.

 

Now, personally, I am more akin to you, Kyleran, because I go the extra step(or 6), to find out everything I can before actually entering a game. But, I did find it puzzling that there wasn't even a basic .pdf manual included with the client download.

 

Now, I haven't really commented on this whole AV/EG fiasco much, but having "hardcore" gameplay should be where it ends. This whole "hardcore" just trying to figure everything out BS is just that. BS. The UI should have been 100% at launch.

But that's just my lil' ol' opinion.

 

IMO, Ed was overly harsh as a whole, and stretched a couple things. But he wasn't that far off.

Being overly harsh can kill a game that has great concepts and poor execution. IMO - at least put a positive spin on things. Everyone loves the concept of Darkfall, why not attempt to help it as opposed to shutting it down so we all wait another 3 years for something better....

I'm sick of the template WoW has set for MMOs- Darkfall seems like a sweet, fun and interesting future. I'm gunna stick it out until the game gets better.

It is amazing but I haven't got any problems with learning controls, interface or game mechanics after first hour of game play and you know what ? There is about 10000 people who passed that test for an average intelligent chimpanzee with little bit of patience.

Obvious factual mistakes made but that 'reviewer" just prove lack of HIS professionalism and fact he did no bother to spend even a one day to play the game. He vented a lot of anger in his review build not because Darkfall is so poorly design and implemented game. The frustration cased by fact he could not accept implications of full pvp, full loot design and lack of theme park content to which he is used to.

Nice idea !!! Tell you what ,tell them for starters to update their website, get rid off a certain loudmouthed idiot or put him in a spot that he makes the least damage (janitor, coffee-guy etc)that just happens to be currently one of their top guys and their voice for the public, alongside with their retarded sales policy and then we can start talking about it.

Supporting a potentially good game from a company with bad bussiness ethics is in my terms considered charity and not the "i'm starving to death because i was born in a 3rd world country" type of charity but the "i'm too lazy to get off my butt or am too incompetent to make a job right so i depend on the good will of others" type of charity. So if you wanna support that go ahead but personally i'd rather flush my money down the toilet before i do so.

Poor execution is exactly what kills games, great concepts are a dime a dozen.

My point?  Ed Zitron deserves a D.

 

Here is the thing. He played the game like an average person would. The average person does not read manuals go and do research or anything like that they just get in and go so to speak. Case in point certain pet supply company spent millions to find out people do not read signs but they are attracted to colors so they color coded their stores so people come in go "duh I need da blu one" 

Everyone that has attacked him said it is his job to go and learn about the game. Guess what he did do that just like his target reader would have done. Could he have done some PR and made his review a little less harsh. Yes. Anytime you call out the intelligence of the product your reviewing's customers for purchasing that product seems a little hard. But then again reviews are based off of his opinions. Just like ebert and roper we want them to tell us if they liked it. 

In the end if you did not like his review go and buy the game (if you can) and try it yourself. Frankly I will be waiting till I get more feedback and it has more then a 90 day shelf life like I see right now.

In your opinion, in mine it is a decent game with a good base and potential for development if they will act fast enough.

And yes I enjoy it far more then for example WAR.
