I'm not interested in running around as a foot-slogger, but plug my capsule into a customizable battle frame? Yeah, I'd be into that. I was holding out for a NA release of Front Mission Online, but SE went Japan only with it. Even an Armored Core MMO would be cool. There are a lot of Mech properties out there that could work. I'll have to look up Front Mission Online, as I completely enjoyed the turn-based Front Mission 4 on PlayStation2. Aweseome game, great custimization of the mechs, and great skill synergy combo systems in the fighting. I so enjoyed the Link combo system. Thought it was very original and innovative.

I'm not sure what they have in the works, but I don't think it's either Mech5 or a Mechwarrior MMO. He has been more interested in collectible games than video games for the last decade. Hopefully though, without Microsoft sitting on the license, we can finally hope to see a new 'Mech game soon. Ideally, I'd like to see a combined arms Battletech MMO... With 'Mechs, tanks, areospace.... of course I still think we are a long way away from any game that cool. I'd even be happy with a regular Mechwarrior game at this point.... unfortunately, no one seems to be working on one, and it's been six years since the last one released. links of interest... http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/50247 http://www.smithandtinker.com/ http://www.mechlivinglegends.net/component/option,com_frontpage/Itemid,1/

A MW MMO will never work ,any Mech or Mecha MMOG will work for that matter cause it will just be like playing a online match with a bunch of guys, look at Exteel,it's considered a MMOG but it realy isnt in almost any aspect.
However a game based on several factions fighting in space for territory, having politics etc (like in EVE) and having mech/mechas as a feature that is hard to obtain would be more intresting.
Also a exemple of why a full out combat game wont work long time, look at Planet Side,it was good at the begining but it's barerly standing on it's feet.

I think we just need to quit thinking every MMO released has to be just like the ones released in the past. First, it doesn't need to be an RPG to be an MMO. I think MPBT 3025 was a step in the right direction, but the lackluster graphics and controls doomed it to never launch. I believe that there is a huge market for action or FPS games that are perpetual and persistent. people play those game because they are exciting and fun to play. People love MMOs because they offer persistence, long term goals, and rewards for hard work and dedication... even though the goals and rewards are virtual, it still triggers a part of us that feels satisfaction at the completion of a task. I think we are long overdue for MMOs that are actually exciting and fun to play, rather than boring and repetitive to play, but rewarding. I don't need levels or skills in a mech MMO to make it fun for me... in fact I'd prefer it had neither. All the game has to do in terms of progression and experience rewards is offer access to more equipment, or promotions in rank that don't make you more combat effective. The last thing I would want to see are levels that make people do more damage with the same equipment... some RPG mechanics just have no place in a skill based, action game.

I remember playing online mech games. I dont know that an MMO would add anything to the normal 8v8 game |

definitely. it was a shame that fasa shut down, the shadowrun game on 360 was crap.
i used to love all the books and models, and activision's mechwarrior 2 and mechcommander games were brilliant. mech 2 was the first game i ever bought for a pc, and i remember playing netmech over kali all those years ago. to think that a ten meg download took hours, the joys of 28.8k modems. how things have changed :) |

Something else for the mech fans to check out. It's a free to play browser game... but it is really high quality for being either of those. it's definitely worth checking out if you are a mech fan. it isn't Battletech 'Mechs, but it is pretty decent western style mecha. |

I've seen a few Mech games, but to me the Battletech universe really is what would draw me to play that MMO. I love the combined arms idea. I was thinking along the same lines. Whoever mentioned Planetside. IMHO it proved that it CAN be done. The reason the servers are getting empty is that it is now dated and no significantly new content has been added for quite a while. Dang it would be so cool. House allegiances, famous regiments, fighting the clans, dueling it out on Solaris... Gotta stop. I'm drooling. |

It has lore, from the empire to 5 houses to outer clans and the side stories like the mercs. It has armed forced combo, not just Mechs, but jump ships, LAMs, tanks, infantry, and yes infantry matters, if you overheat a mech after it fires its twin PPC, by a flame throwing infantry, you got to shut down then mech, and capture it. It has the basis for RvR, say the 5 houses, with wild cards such as merc, or a 2 sided conflict, inner sphere vs outer clans. So much potential and yet nothing coming out at all. |

They added like 50 new mechs, including the lost mechs that FASA can't show any more. They also added power armor and infantry, and a ton of new weapons and equipment to the game. they are also working on a couple of different stand-alone mech games. Check them out @ www.mektek.net I have a Mechwarrior team that i founded in 2000. We have a relatively small group still playing Mech, but we are still a close team ane we get togeether for a week of LAN gaming every summer. We were pretty big in our heyday, winning first place in the BattleZone league for 13 straight months starting the month Mech4 released. If anyone is looking for someone to play Mech4 with, or if you have any questions about the game, check us out. I haven't been playing for a long time time, but we do still have some active guys and we keep a server running. www.DeathDealerMercenaries.com |

This was at the same time MS had "The Zone" for their games which had a matchmaking service for the MechWarrior games. For some reason, literally a few weeks away before MPBT 3025 went final, MS came to the conclusion that having a MMO Mechwarrior game would take away profits from The Zone and potential box sales of Mechwarrior as well and forced EA to pull the plug. At the time MPBT 3025 was going through it's closed beta process, it was the #1 game on EA.com, despite the fact it was not an open beta. It had more players logged in during prime time hours than any other EA online game at the time. Fuhyo |

Pity if they had gone ahead, it most likely would have been the king of mmorpg's and we most likely would never have heard of WoW, they really did put a lot of work into this, http://www.mpbt3025.com/ if you look under images in the side bar menu, you can see they had very exstensive list of mech's to offer, maybe we should all just start hassling EA to re-release it now,( it can't hurt The Zone or the MW franchise any more now!), man what a waste, just make's me want to cry, specially when you look at the current stock of mmorpg's we got to play. |

There are 2 MMO's I have been patiently waiting for for many years now. A Star Trek MMO (Which is finally coming) and a Battletech/Mechwarrior MMO, which I agree, would make for a fantastic setting. |

I think we are looking back at MPBT with rose colored glasses. I played it heavily, and enjoyed some aspects of it. Unfortunately game-play wasn't one of them. The matches took place on small featureless maps and were generally over within a few seconds of the two sides coming in to contact with each other. The biggest issue that game has was trying to compare to Mechwarrior 4 in terms of gameplay. |
