Did anyone ever play microsoft's 'Mech Warrior' series? That would make an amazing MMO! A great concept, huge amounts of strategy in equiping your mech and on the battle field, great potential for PvP and the original games were fantastic. OK it might not be the best known game ever and I doubt it has a fan base to even slightly compare to Star Wars or Lord of the Rings but it would make a great MMO! Someone should really be making that game! |

I am puzzled no one has made one using mechs. Seems to me to be a slam dunk that someone should try one. |

The Mech Warrior series and novels had many interesting mech types and weapons. The lore is vast and a content rich universe, a good scfi mmo that can deliver much game play and if made hope they use skill base progression instead of level based progression. |

Its not a full blown MMO, but there is a MOD in the works using the Crysis engine. http://www.mechlivinglegends.net/

Look at Force of Arms. www.forceofarms.com The game has some really neat possibilities and is very similar in some aspects to Battle Tech. I have been following the game for some time and will fill the void of a Battle Tech mmo. Plus I heard that microsoft has the rights to Battle Tech. and if that is the case we will never see it for the PC. They would put it out for the 360 instead. |

Thanks guys, i'll have a look at both of those. It's good to know someone has thought of doing that sort of MMO, it's just a shame that microsoft are holding back. I agree that if they do decide to make it they would launch on the Xbox, SHAME on them! |

God, that brought back memories. I used to play Mechwarrior online many years ago, back in the days of dial-up. |

I enjoyed the MW series of games also.I waited for quite awhile for the MW 5 to be released but it was cancelled in the end.You can pretty much thank "Mech Assault" for that as well as the trend to go dumbed down console for what was really a sim series as much a game. |

Of course, it operates on a cash shop, so spending a little money on the game will help you get started. Last time I played it still wasn't necessary to succeed, however, as everything you could buy in the cash shop had an equivalent or superior 'credit' version (which is the money you win in the game by winning matches).
It's got the whole mech-building aspect (core, arms, legs, weapons, head, etc.), mech painting, very fast-paced action, pilot levels (which grant points that can be used for minor improvements). It's overall a very fun game.
Heck I think I might just reinstall it and play some more. - |

The Makers of Eve should develop it for microsoft. Imagine the customizational aspects it could have. Just a thought. |

Smith and Tinker have the IP, as well as the Shadowrun IP (this company was founded by one of the original creators of both IPs at FASA) and they haven't shown any interest in making computer/video games out of either. They formed in 2007 and that was the last time they made a news update to their site. They used to have an employee bio section and job posting page but those are both gone now. Course, their site only ever really talked about "toy making" so it's likely they were not going to make computer/video games at all. Which is a total waste of what the IPs they're holding and they might as well sell those IPs to someone like CCP who'll make good games from them. "Many nights, my friend... Many nights I've put a blade to your throat while you were sleeping. Glad I never killed you, Steve. You're alright..." |

I have been looking for this for years now :( Sadly I think Microsoft still own the computer game rights to it and they are not planning anything. And Shadowrun and Battletech are owned by Catalyst

Nah. The makers of EVE should develop it for EVE. A lot of players want some kind of ground combat in EVE. I'm not interested in running around as a foot-slogger, but plug my capsule into a customizable battle frame? Yeah, I'd be into that. I was holding out for a NA release of Front Mission Online, but SE went Japan only with it. Even an Armored Core MMO would be cool. There are a lot of Mech properties out there that could work. |
