In the company’s F4Q09 Earnings Call (which covers the quarter ending on March 31st, 2009), Electronic Arts announced that Warhammer Online ended the [fiscal] year with over 300,000 subscribers and said that their subscription revenue streams, which come from Pogo and Warhammer Online “continue to grow”.

This new report indicates that the game’s subscription numbers have held steady since the end of 2008, when subscription numbers were reported at the same levels.

wouldn't look too much into it, they have a player base and the population could possibly be slowly getting bigger. Even staying the same is pretty much a victory when many mmos are failing.

I love how the dev team has stopped communicating with the fan base for over a month. you would think with losing 500k subs in 6 months they would be very interested in what the fans have to say. I guess mythic is too good to communicate.

Hmm, I confused then. If there's 300k subscribers, where are they?

I spent the last 2 months playing WAR and I never had the impression that there were that many subscribers and I played on the most populated servers. You could usually find 1, maybe less warbands at T1. I rarely seen anyone out questing, and the zones aren't so big that you can't see people in the distance. PQ's were generally empty, but there were exceptions. Scenarios took anywhere from 5-30min to pop. I don't know how many people were in T2, T3, and T4, but judging from T1, I just don't see it. Perhaps most people just don't play much? Or maybe there are too many servers, so the population is spread thin?

If there are in fact 300k subscribers, I definitely suggest merging more servers. Then again, I've heard how unstable T4 gets when people are playing the game as intended (a couple hundred players RvRing), so maybe that's not a good idea.

Thoughts?

I don't know about T1-T3  since I'm not an alt addict and only play my main toon. But, in T4, there is always something happening on Skull Throne. Last night for instance, Destro had all three zones pushed with Eataine and Reikland both about to fall.

There were some great epic fights during the course of the night. If zones aren't pushed by either side, then scenarios pop often. Especially when they throw in a live event like this past weekend, where they opened up the T1 scenario, Nordenwatch, for T4 as well. As soon as our group was out of one scenario, another popped.

They have already merged some servers and probably need to do it once more. It's nice to see that the subscriber base has settled down. If they just held steady at 300K+ subs, they would do fine. Of course, I hope the numbers go up. More people to kill, more RP's!

I do have to agree with one of the above posters on the Devs though. Mark Jacobs used to give us sneak peaks and actually talk to people on teh VN boards. I was hoping that would continue on the official forums but, it hasn't. The Devs are next to non-existent and the only posts you get from the community managers are when they lock threads.

Oh, almost forgot. I love this game and will keep playing it but, they have BY FAR, the worst customer service in the industry. They say there are CSR's in game but, I think they're just saying that. I've left a petition in the queue for weeks and never gotten an answer. I just gave up and don't even bother anymore.

Notice lack of the word "current" subscribers.

I am sorry but Warhammer does not have 300k subscriptions right now.

its worth remembering about T1 is that you can get thru t1 in about 4 or 5 hours so unless people are maxing the rewards the tier can be bypassed very quickly.

i found t2 empire and t3 everywhere is when the game really got busy.

Sounds about right.  There is always action going on even on the low servers.  On Friday/Saturday nights most of the servers are up to med.

The word "current" is missing because it's not needed. The statement that they ended the FY with over 300,000 is plain enough right?

Of course you have proof of Mythic cooking the books on these numbers right? I'll wait while you get that together....

The game is doing well, there is alot of action in T3, alot of things got fixed, but most important of all, their vision is back on track, as they are focussed to RvR ( as opposed to when the game was released ) and not instanced pvp.

The PvE is also fine, some parts are even great.

I had a pretty bad experience with WAR with the first massive group that bought the game when there were over 750k and almost a million subscribers, the entire game was scenario pvp which at first was fun, but got so repetitive and annoying that nothing was done in the persistent world that was provided.  Then keep taking became popular and you would need a ridiculously good internet connection to stay on, even with only 40 people combined per keep.

And the introduction of mirror classes so late in production was a joke, honestly its about time that Horde and Alliance, Order and Destruction were actually DIFFERENT.  They are exactly the same, why are they at war again?

God damn it!

300k is 300k they can't lie in a businessreport!!!

Is it a good number? ..not really they can't have gained many customers in russia since launch.

T1-T3 oRvR is fun...
T4 oRvR isn't that fun, lets hope the expansion can bring something to fight over again.

Still a good solid subcriber base inspite of the doom predictions of 100k and below from those opposed to WARs game mechanics, and the apparent lack of RvR direction from Mythic in their eyes.

I've seen a huge increase in T1/T2 ORvR and frequent SC's, I've yet to progress to T3 as I am lvling 10 different classes due to each of them having so many unique gaming experiences, plus it's quite fun understanding how each of them plays out.

The EA report gave me confidence that the subscriber base will continue to grow, slowly but it is growing and not shrinking.

Agreed, as an accounting major, I can attest to how accurate financial reports must be. The consequences of a falsified financial report are severe, and I doubt Mythic would attempt such a thing over something so small as subscriber numbers (in the grand scheme of things for EA, Mythics subs is a small concern).

The only way to judge subscriber numbers is to be ingame in my opinion. If you're in game and always have people to play with, and developers have enough money to patch and update the game, then the subs are good. From my experience from the past 2 months on the two busiest servers, 300k isn't near enough. Either everyone is sitting in later tiers, there are too many server, or the subscribers just aren't playing much, because the game feels dead to me most of the time. See my previous post for more details.
