Masthead Studios has published a statement addressing player feedback to recent demonstrations of the combat system in Earthrise, saying that combat will be much faster in the final game than it has been in the recent demos.

One of the things we've noticed recently is a fair amount of concern over the combat pace and cooldown of weapons. Masthead prides itself on listening to its community and we are committed on making Earthrise a fast paced RPG game that many people will enjoy. One of these things we are doing behind the scenes at present is fine-tuning the combat as a whole to make it faster and better. You'll no doubt notice this means things will be faster as you experience them for yourself than initially demonstrated. We may slow things down a little bit in our demos and footage for illustrative purposes on occasion to highlight systems and features, though, but this is nothing to worry about. As we proceed through beta, is important for us to know what the community thinks overall about Earthrise because we want to continue to make Earthrise an unforgettable experience. We appreciate and thank everyone for their honest opinions and candid feedback.

Good call, the last vids showing combat made it look utterly boring in my opinion.

I know it's not Tabula Tasa but one thing TR did right was the pace of combat. Fast, varied, dramatic and with full use of all your abilities with minimum cooldown except for the really signature moves.

I don't want ER to be TR but I was a bit started at the pace in the video. I can appreciate, however, that the vid was a demo of targeting not combat (sort of). From my previous beta experience I've seen that combat pace is something that is tweaked continually from alpha and throughout the life of an MMO. What will emerge upon release will be a baseline, not a final destination. From there it's all about feedback and the speed at which various sub-teams of the dev staff finish their respective goals on the timeline. I do also appreciate their frankness and disclosure of their work in progress.

A good king. A great king. But not greatly good.

Making combat faster-paced does not  = clicking hotkey buttons faster.

Indeed. It involve creating a prey rich environment, adjusting animation timers and skill timers, terrain, ability cooldowns, prey/player spawning, target switching and a whole raft of other things.

I await this game with greater anticipation now and shall sacrifice some live chickens in a voodoo ceremony tonight in the hope it shall help speed up the release. Aslong as there's no instancing **cough** **AoC** **cough** I'll be going in blind at launch, let's hope it won't end in rage quit a few months later like so many other titles!

Seriously if you guys liked TR so much why did you let it die?

TR was a bore and even the combat became stale and worthless within a day.

I really hope the devs dont listen to the babies on the forums.

While I personally feel the combats cool downs should be a bit quicker I in no way want this to resemble that pure fail MMO TR.

These devs need to work on the in depth features and sub systems of the game that will make it a deep, complex and engaging sandbox experience. Last thing we need is them taking all available dev time in recreating a combat system.

I will refuse to buy this game if the devs leave out features to tweak a combat system the whole closed and open betas.

We already have a worthless next to featureless Sandbox that has twitch combat go play darkfall.

Seriously get a grip. I was referring to the pace of combat not anything else. Calm down. TR was dead upon release for a lot of reasons. As I said, I don't want TR I want masthead to go ahead.

It's not only you bro, this whole god damn forum is making me sick.

We finally get a game thats basically Eve online on foot (FFA pvp with safe and hardcore zones) and everyone shits on the combat.

Did you really think mashhead was going to leave rifles with a four second shot timer?

Obviously they will quicken the combat, my rant is just a spill over from several threads wanting ER to be twitch and not Rpg combat like its intended to be.

Just look at all the features and shit we will be able to do in this game, yet noone seems to care. All they give a shit about is a combat cooldown or a aiming mechanic.

It's sad really.

Well, yeah I see where your coming from. Personally, while not into pvp outside of a straight FPS, I was a bit more interested in making robots cuz I've never seem a game that would allow me to do that to the scale at which ER hopes to. That's what got me interested. I'm good with twich combat but combat isn't what I'm really gonna be into.
