Hey. I'm bored so I'm thinking about trying this game. I checked out their website and saw that it costs 10 dollars per month unless you use the trial version. So what content do you get access to as a trial member, and specifically what content would you not have access to without paying? Secondly how does the combat in this game work? It looks like a turn based thing with cards or something based on what I've seen. Thirdly what do you guys think of this game overall?

 Just go ahead and download and start playing for free.  You can make an educated decision on whether to purchase a subscription/access passes once you've completed the free content.

I like the game, it's a breath of fresh air among a world of MMO's filled with the same old, same old.

There are five worlds in the game, and you can play through about 40% of the first one without paying.

Combat is fully turn-based, not the real-time with attacks at fixed intervals that some people call turn-based.  You get 30 seconds to pick a card and play it; if you pick within 2 seconds, a round ends faster than if you took 28 seconds to pick, but that doesn't affect how the round plays out.  At the start, battles are 1 on 1 against mobs, or more generally n on n, and hence easy.  Near the end of the first world (well after you're done with the trial), they shift to 1 on 2, or more generally, n against n+1 (or 4 on 4, since that's the max), and stay that way for the rest of the game.  Golem Tower is in the free area, and a better indication of what the 1 on 2 battles are like.

There's a fair bit of tactical complexity, though it doesn't really show up until around the end of Krokotopia, the second world.  Before that, you can be reckless and it doesn't matter, but after that, proper use of blades, traps, and especially shields will make a huge difference.  For PvE purposes, you could probably get through everything without learning to play well just by taking a bigger group (4 on 4 is a lot easier than 1 on 2), but if you want to solo, say, Counterweight West at the intended level, you'll have to be reasonably good at the game.

The game is substantially different from most games on the market, which is a very good thing if you're sick of WoW-clones.  It does what it does pretty well, and the focus is firmly on the combat.  My two big complaints about the core gameplay are the slow pace (after you pick cards, it does an animation for player or mob that plays a card, which can take a while) and the crippled chat system (no regional or zone chats, local chats are very heavily filtered with a whitelist system that doesn't allow very many words through).

If you do want to sink some money into it I would recommend buying crowns vs. a subscription. You get more for your money and once you pay for access to an area you never have to pay for it again.

i was referring to Wizards101 not FreeRealms, unless Wizards came out with a hardcopy card game as well.
