"We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope." - Martin Luther King, Jr. |
For the first time in ten years or maybe a little longer, I have been consecutive 3 months without being subscribed to any MMO. For a while, I believed that the current market was crap. However, I think I've come to realize that my tastes have changed over the years as I have been exposed to different MMO experiences. As I've tried out each new game, I've become a little more spoiled and my expectations have risen just a little higher. Today, I want an MMO that can offer: - Avatars that look as good or better than Lineage 2 and AoC. - Customization as good or better than CoX and AoC (face and body) - Big beautiful open worlds to explore like Vanguard - Fun and addicting gameplay like Asheron's Call - Huge variety of gear and interesting loot drops like Asheron's Call - Lots of new content added regularly like Everquest 2 - Polish and professionalism like WoW - Viable progression paths besides just combat like Vanguard attempts to do - Grouping is fun, dynamic and encouraged but you can solo if you want like CoX
There are tons more features from other games that I like, but I'm sure you get the point by now. Basically, I am waiting on a MMO company to do exactly what Blizzard did with WoW. They need to evaluate the current MMO market, take the best parts from the games out there, combine these parts into a new MMO and polish the hell out of it. I don't care if it's scifi, fantasy, or whatever. I just want a fun game that pushes the bar forward. |

It's on Blizzards drawingboard. I hear rumors they are making a second one. To be honest when Diablo 3 comes out i think that will be my next online game for a long time |

I am not so sure. The graphical things wont come in a Blizzard game. Bizzard have always prefered low polygon count so older computers can play the game, and to be able to custom your character the way OP wants also takes a lot of resources. The massive content adds to Wow have been acceptable but not great, of course Blizz could do it at faster speed but they have more slowed down instead with Wow. The polish will surely be the game OP is looking for but I think Biowares or CCPs next game are more likely to deliver, or possibly 59 Studios "Copernicus" (With R.A Salvatore and Todd McFarlane). I basicly suspects that Blizzards next MMO will be very close to a new Wow, even Morhaime have hinted so in interviews. And I dont think we need a new Wow, it would be better if Blizzard revamped the old game instead to be more modern, or made something new. Of course it will still sell, everything Blizz made since Diablo have but I dont think it will be close to Wows sales unless they do a lot of new thinking. And from what I got from the OPS point he isnt looking for a Wow 2. |

It sounds like you are waiting for Aion if the hype is to be believed. Thanks to the korean/Chinese release you can expect a good degree of polish at launch and as its NC I would hope that content will be regularly added. Im looking forward to playing it, it has a lot of fans though it does not appear to break any moulds(sp), only time will tell i suppose. |

If you're going to stick it out there, don't be afraid if you get it cut off. |

ST:TOR has a lot of promise. STO is also looking very unique. Blizzard has a secret game under construction which will probably leave a mark on the MMO industry. As for now there is slim pickings. |

What you want is not for a game to come take the common features to a lot of games that a lot of people like and combine them into a single game. What you want is for a game to take all the features on your wish list that you personally like even if a lot of other people don't, and then combine those into a single game. It's not unreasonable to want that, but it is perhaps unreasonable to expect it to happen unless you make the game yourself. |

This is amazing. Same for me, but it has been a bit longer than 3 months, after over a decade of multiple subscriptions.
What has happened? I think the copy-and-paste commercialized/linear gamer model has run its course, but that is just MY theory on the subject.
I am not only finished subscribing, but I am nearly finished with "looking." All of them are essentially the same in which creativity and innovation are lacking or missing. We Need to Let Developers Know that We Expect, Desire, And Demand More |

Same thing here. Sadly I think the search is over. There is nothing on horizon that is in any way decent , except perhaps SWOTOR. The rest are very sad attempts to copy old games, but those copies in fact look to be worse than the examples... unbelievable but true MMORPGs are not dead. But we have entered the black hole. A spot in which there will be a empty vacum , and no decent game for several years. Hope we still have wish to play them when those good MMOs emerge again

Aion is seriously an amazing game. Trust me, I'm cynical as hell about all games. Especially so for asian MMO's but Aion is quite simply amazing. |

If any parallels can be drawn between Aion and Final Fantasy XI in terms of gameplay or structure i think i'll pass. Final Fantasy XI was definitely not my cup of tea. |

Alas, there is 1 mmo that has a chance of being awsome. Fallen Earth, real time FPS combat (no dice rolls to see if you hit them, you have to put the reticle over them to hit) 95% of the items are craftable, post apacolyptic Mad-Max setting, 6 factions, 7000 thousand square km game world, no classes, sandbox.
I think it will be great. |
