Just another quick update for anyone interested in my continuing Adventures in the Brutal World of Darkfall !

Managed to get a few hours of uninterupted play time in last night with no crashes or ping problems ! ( I cant believe that just a simple router re-boot did the trick ! )

I managed a whole 3 to 4 hours without actually getting Ganked once , although my scary mounted freinds the new player murderers were hanging around quite alot , thankfully I managed to avoid them by crouching behind rocks, trees and even ran up into the mountains to avoid them. I was suprised how persistent they were in their endeavours to slaughter new  players, they just keep coming back at 10-20 minute intervals, so I assume they are probably teenagers or very immature adults, but hey I guess someone will flame me for that one !

Anyways I was at least encouraged by my small chunks of progress last night and hell I even upgraded to killing goblin Fighters instead of the lowly scouts, though it was alot more dangerous.

I used alot of the advice I had from these forums and some helpful players in the game. Made sure I was'nt too greedy in my little forrays to kill goblins and ran back and forwards to town to sell and put as much stuff in the bank as I could. I managed to accumuate nearly 200 gold by doing this and made sure I kept spares of my starter weapons etc in the bank. ( Thank god for that Bank !! ).

My skills have started to edge up slowly and I even managed to get a magic staff and started upgrading the magic missile skill too. If I carry on playing I would like to become a really skilled Archer/Bowman type of player I think , I love playing Ranger or rogue classes in other games, for me  one the most fantastic features of Darkfall, is that you can become anything you want or a hybrid of all the traditional classes.

Anyways the feeling that I wasted my money has all but gone and I'm really enjoying the challenge of just staying alive in the Darkfall world. A a huge thankyou to those people on these forums that encourage others to stick with Darkfall, I can see now those that dont will be missing a unique Mmo experience.

Anyways I'll post back in a few day to update my progress , think I've bored everyone enough today !

Glad to hear you're making progress!!

I can heartily recommend going with archery. The damage, especially to the back, is frightening, and it's great fun once you get the hang of leadnig your enemy, and get used to teh drop on the arrows. It's also one of the cheapest skills to advance in, since you can get stacks of arrows from goblins, as well as bows....and if you pick up bowyer, you can crank out hundreds of arrows with very little resources (think it's 1 timber, 1 iron ingot for 20 arrows).

I hear that using the lighter armor styles (bone, leather, etc) is better for an archer....might want to do some research on that yourself.

Sounds like you're getting the hang of things. Best of luck to you....hang in there, and just wait until the first time you put an arrow in some Red player's face. It's VERY satisfying.

Just another quick update firstly @ Warghoul thanks !

I can officially say now that even after just a few days and despite my earlir problems getting the running, I am totally hooked on this game , I hav'nt had as much fun in a game since the early days of EQ.

First and foremost this game makes you think and sometimes think really fast ! Just avoiding being killed is a whole game of Stealth in itself and yeah and can get a little frustrating when you get Ganked for the hundreth time. It does all soon slot into place and as each Goblin is killed in the early stages your stats are rising and your becoming better at the game without even realizing it !

I took my first revenge on some one that had ganked me a few times this morning .. " And oohhh hw sweet it was getting revenge ! and I even did it with an Arrow in the back , I was delighted when I was looting the Gravestone and getting a little of the huge amount of gold that I had lost to this person back.. but it is hard to explain how satisfying it is really.

This game is really something special and I for one am going to be playing it for along time to come, Its awesome, Ok it does have some issues as do all Mmo's but the speed at which they are sorting the problems out are commendable to AV.

I would finish by imploring anyone who is having doubts about this game to give it a go and dont be put by negativity from people on these or any other forums that hav'nt even played it , the game is brilliant and is what gamers/mmo players have been screaming out for. You can be or do almost anything you want .

To finish I was I must admit a little skeptical after reading some of the negative stuff on this forum , I'm sooo glad I trusted my instincts and took the plunge ... love it , Now I must go and get the final Gold I need so I can get the Bowyer Skill to make my own Arrows !

tally ho !

I will just add at this point that the community in general chat seemed extemley helpful with comments and suggestion ( except for the occasional " Get a new Pc you **** Tard comment ") so that at least made me feel a little better.

... some time later whoopee finally get it working , after 5 minutes learning the interface and finding my first quests and getting killed a couple of times ( which was kinda funny ) game starts to lag and ping goes up to record levels up to 200k ! . quit the game (starting get that pit of your stomach feeling whenyou think you've totally wasted your money now ) .....

.... some time later and after a quick session on Burn Zombie Burn I return to my PC feeling refreshed and optomistic and launch Darkfall yet again.

..... whats this wooot ! it seems to be working and the lag has gone hooray !!

..... some time later after gleefully feeling I was getting the hang it doin my fist few quests and getting some nice starter gear  I head just outside the starter area packed lunch in hand I start chipping away at some trees and rocks. With the warm sun on my back and the nice Ding Ding of my Stats starting to rise, I'm starting to feel all that stress is behind me ...... and then

....... Ganked !

Ok I tell my self picking my bloodstained body of the floor this is a PVP game after all bound to get Murdered occasionally...

so I forgive my Murderer and start all over again get some new gear and set out again..

...... Ganked !

one more time I say

...... Ganked !

so hey after all the hassle of getting this game actually working I know its a PVP game and I know your going to get killed alot.

But waiting around outside starter areas Ganking new players seems stupid to me , all it achieved was getting me frustrated and hitting the quit button.

Anyway going to give it another go later and see if I can get further than 100 yards outside the gate !

And to those that just sprout " Welcome to Darkfall " .... I'm not really feeling it Dudes

Rant Over  and have a nice day

Now you know what kind of people PvP attracts.

I avoid it like gonnorea.

Unless it's like a instanced battleground on equal terms or something like that.

I'm glad your enjoying the game.

I do have a question though, Besides getting your revenge and killing Goblins what else is there to do? Or More specific what else have you done?

I am interested in the game, however, all I read about is city sieging, ganking, and killing goblins. I know they have crafting, but, what else is there for a mmorpg player?

Will I be able to set up a store and be just a merchant? Can I start trade caravans between the different races because certain resources can only be found in certain racial areas? Are there good dungeon crawls? Are there skills to be a thief or rogue? Can I start a fishing vessel and sell my catch from the dock?

Any insight would be welcomed.

Tbh I'm probably not the right person to answer your question, I hav'nt really been playing it long enough to know all that stuff, but I fancy being a Robin Hood type Character and I'll certainly be able to it especially with the brilliant Archery , Stealing and Looting stuff. here's a link to the Wiki anyways but I'm sure someone here on the forum will maybe know more than I do at the moment.

The reason I asked you was, so far from the players that post here you seem to be the most honest person that actually talks about what is in the game than the same talk, "The game is Great" with no actual facts.

Thanks anyways.

Keep enjoying yourself.

Hey thanks for that ! There is one thing which I have already found if you wanted to be a theif or a Rogue/Assasin type character, is that you really can use the Shadows and any cover to your advantage, I was in a a small starter area the other day and some higher level/stats players on mounts came and slaugtered evreyone , I managed to escape and hid behind a box in a small building,it was quite a gaming experience, I could hear the carnage going on outside and when it was over I waited till the Killers had gone and looted the meagre scraps they left behind ! It was brilliant. So you can hide in shadows or behind rocks or escape up into the mountains ... so I'm pretty sure as a theif or a rogue these game mechanics would suit perfectly. If you developed the skills in the game to match that is.

No player stores, but many players play as traders.

Can I start trade caravans between the different races because certain resources can only be found in certain racial areas?

Most resources, as well as all banks, are global so, though you could caravan if you wish, there is no need to and you would probably just become a nice pile of loot for someone.

Are there good dungeon crawls?

I like them, but they usually end up in a PVP fest.

Are there skills to be a thief or rogue?

Only your own. It is possible to be very stealthy in this game.

There are no pickpocketing type mechanics, so no stealing, in that sense.

Can I start a fishing vessel and sell my catch from the dock?

You can build a boat or raft and fish from it. You can sell where ever you like, though I would recommend doing it near a bank.

Any insight would be welcomed.

Hope this helps.

So in other words, your saying that I can not be what I would like to be, such as a rogue/ thief that can pick locks, disarm traps. Nor can I really be just a fisherman or merchant.

So what Can you be that would be considered part of an mmorpg world?

What other skills can you develop besides the normal ones, crafting harvesting, weapon, archery, or mage skills?

If there are no regional only resources why are there city sieges? What is the point?

As of NOW, there are no locks or traps, and thus no skill for dismantling them.

There's nothing at all stopping you from becoming a fisherman, or a merchant though. Take it a step further, even..become a chef, who cooks what he catches, and sell quantities of food. There are a LOT of crafting professions, and although the system is a bit tedious, it's really quite amazing just how many things can be crafted.

Many crafting professions also support one another.

Pick up alchemy, and taming.....while harvesting herbs for your potions, you will occasionally find "steedgrass", which you can use to "craft" mounts....or just sell the grass for a good amount.

There are so many skills in the game it would boggle your mind. Every little thing is based on a "skill", even mundane things such as jumping, and crouch-walking. These skills will also enhance your base stats as they are leveled.

yes, resources are global...but they are not unlimited. The amount of territory you control directly influences your maximum potential. More territory = more resources = a bigger, more powerful war machine. And let's not forget the political motivations for sieging, and advancing. As far as that goes, let's not overlook the political roles that one can engage in. Why be a simple fish merchant, when you can be a diplomat, and have the future of the world balanced on your next word?

And of course, the best reason to do anything in Darkfall, is simply because you can.

So in other words, your saying that I can not be what I would like to be, such as a rogue/ thief that can pick locks, disarm traps. Nor can I really be just a fisherman or merchant.

There are no traps to disarm or locks to pick, so unless you have a very good imagination, you cannot do these things within the current game mechanic.

Nothing stops you from being a fisherman or a merchant, if that is your wish. There are mechanics in game that will allow for both of these possibilities.

So what Can you be that would be considered part of an mmorpg world?

What other skills can you develop besides the normal ones, crafting harvesting, weapon, archery, or mage skills?

Pretty much covers the general categories currently available.

It really is the worst grind game i have ever crossed. My Eldrich sphere takes ages to skill up, first i have to grind and harvest for mats to use it. only that takes FOREVER. and then i can shoot my sphere x100 (100 Sulfur takes to gather HOURS) and gain a small amount of skill up = +0.5, And i have to rest between becourse it eats mana and i have to rest for 2 minutes. to shoot 100 of them will take n hour. Amagad that only 1 skill. Im out of that game let the chinease wannabe farmer play that game lowl

EDIT: I also want to point out that there are a couple of ppls making small guilds. They go towns and look for crafters and ppl going to bank stuff etc etc. Makes war with people in other guilds so they can gank them in "safe" towns and loot them. They killing every guild player out there and taking them smart 4vs1 etc etc, Aiming at crafter and geared up players. They bank there stuff and ecape fast from town to another town and do the same thing, When they got to many enemie clans they disband the clan ore leave it and make another. Do the same greifing so they can override the rouge status they will take in towns. They do this over n over. Also alot of 1 MAN army, that will follow you, but u see him as friendly. then u gathered alot the will make war against ur clan so he can kill u.

There also where before, if u was in clan war an fought a guy in town, just quit the clan and yo will go blue and he will get killed by guard towers.

I can say with my hand on my heart that the community is bad, ALOT of players try to make u go rouge for no reason at all(run infront of u and mob), just to be as mean as they can. They steal loots from u. everything in there power they will make it a living hell to play it for you.

And the grind. have i told ya about it?=), i playd a week, this is wat i have been doing. Grind, gathering and ganked. Grind gobs grind skills grind grind grind. Ganked and i gankes one. grind skilling up grind and a guild make war against us just so they coult take my shiny armour and 100 timber  then they ran off. Then they come back with other clan name and hide behind crafter npc, ganked again and lost 400gold + lots of mats.  Abusing the war fare system to maximim like ALMOST every other darkfall player would do

And cheaters. lowl who is not using macro? and RADAR cheat. U cant almost not hide from griefers they will see u on radar. hat about those who are at ur back all the time, even if i turn around they ALWAYS are at my back stabbing me, i have 100% no chance  to even hit them. Wtf is tht cheat must be new.

And GUI, i wont even dont wana type about it. I say this 'LOOL'.

Thats IMO guys. ty

Excluding the first paragraph, if what you say is true then that is a sad comment on the mental state of those players and an ugly blemish on the community as a whole.

This not true, been in the game for amonth and not 1 disconnect or 1 cheater/hack spotted, I hide all the time from people and hardly ever get caught when I leave there actual sight. This kid just got killed too many times, Sure there are some issues most got resolved, I live in USA as well and my ping is 130-150 always and I seen all kinds of pvp and pve, like 1v1's to 200vs200 this game is fun as hell and offers a lot more than what these trolls say about it, dont real forums try it out for yourself Like the op did.

I am interested in the game, however, all I read about is city sieging, ganking, and killing goblins. I know they have crafting, but, what else is there for a mmorpg player?

Will I be able to set up a store and be just a merchant?

Its funny how people thing a Normal FPS Is darkfall, first of all when you do a whole bunch of something and then lose it in 20 secs, u get that RUSH like in eve online pvp fights. Of course dfo is more open then eve, just got be smart and look for it in the right place. And you can become a lot more skill type of what he listed as well lol. This game is fun, it had a ruff launch but now it is deff a game that just needs a little more polishing to make it the game for me at least, like I said dont read forums, they are for cry babies. I just correct them here so people dont get the wrong Idea about a great thing such as darkfall.

Planetside is a Normal FPS...huh. But to clue you in, i was referring to the diversity of game play options in plantside.

Not even sure if the rest of your post is English.
