Originally posted by summitus Glad to hear you're making progress!! I can heartily recommend going with archery. The damage, especially to the back, is frightening, and it's great fun once you get the hang of leadnig your enemy, and get used to teh drop on the arrows. It's also one of the cheapest skills to advance in, since you can get stacks of arrows from goblins, as well as bows....and if you pick up bowyer, you can crank out hundreds of arrows with very little resources (think it's 1 timber, 1 iron ingot for 20 arrows). I hear that using the lighter armor styles (bone, leather, etc) is better for an archer....might want to do some research on that yourself. Sounds like you're getting the hang of things. Best of luck to you....hang in there, and just wait until the first time you put an arrow in some Red player's face. It's VERY satisfying. |

Just another quick update firstly @ Warghoul thanks ! I can officially say now that even after just a few days and despite my earlir problems getting the running, I am totally hooked on this game , I hav'nt had as much fun in a game since the early days of EQ. First and foremost this game makes you think and sometimes think really fast ! Just avoiding being killed is a whole game of Stealth in itself and yeah and can get a little frustrating when you get Ganked for the hundreth time. It does all soon slot into place and as each Goblin is killed in the early stages your stats are rising and your becoming better at the game without even realizing it ! I took my first revenge on some one that had ganked me a few times this morning .. " And oohhh hw sweet it was getting revenge ! and I even did it with an Arrow in the back , I was delighted when I was looting the Gravestone and getting a little of the huge amount of gold that I had lost to this person back.. but it is hard to explain how satisfying it is really. This game is really something special and I for one am going to be playing it for along time to come, Its awesome, Ok it does have some issues as do all Mmo's but the speed at which they are sorting the problems out are commendable to AV. I would finish by imploring anyone who is having doubts about this game to give it a go and dont be put by negativity from people on these or any other forums that hav'nt even played it , the game is brilliant and is what gamers/mmo players have been screaming out for. You can be or do almost anything you want . To finish I was I must admit a little skeptical after reading some of the negative stuff on this forum , I'm sooo glad I trusted my instincts and took the plunge ... love it , Now I must go and get the final Gold I need so I can get the Bowyer Skill to make my own Arrows ! tally ho ! |

Originally posted by summitus I'm glad your enjoying the game. I do have a question though, Besides getting your revenge and killing Goblins what else is there to do? Or More specific what else have you done? I am interested in the game, however, all I read about is city sieging, ganking, and killing goblins. I know they have crafting, but, what else is there for a mmorpg player? Will I be able to set up a store and be just a merchant? Can I start trade caravans between the different races because certain resources can only be found in certain racial areas? Are there good dungeon crawls? Are there skills to be a thief or rogue? Can I start a fishing vessel and sell my catch from the dock? Any insight would be welcomed. |

Tbh I'm probably not the right person to answer your question, I hav'nt really been playing it long enough to know all that stuff, but I fancy being a Robin Hood type Character and I'll certainly be able to it especially with the brilliant Archery , Stealing and Looting stuff. here's a link to the Wiki anyways but I'm sure someone here on the forum will maybe know more than I do at the moment. |

Thanks anyways. Keep enjoying yourself. |

Hey thanks for that ! There is one thing which I have already found if you wanted to be a theif or a Rogue/Assasin type character, is that you really can use the Shadows and any cover to your advantage, I was in a a small starter area the other day and some higher level/stats players on mounts came and slaugtered evreyone , I managed to escape and hid behind a box in a small building,it was quite a gaming experience, I could hear the carnage going on outside and when it was over I waited till the Killers had gone and looted the meagre scraps they left behind ! It was brilliant. So you can hide in shadows or behind rocks or escape up into the mountains ... so I'm pretty sure as a theif or a rogue these game mechanics would suit perfectly. If you developed the skills in the game to match that is. |

So in other words, your saying that I can not be what I would like to be, such as a rogue/ thief that can pick locks, disarm traps. Nor can I really be just a fisherman or merchant. So what Can you be that would be considered part of an mmorpg world? What other skills can you develop besides the normal ones, crafting harvesting, weapon, archery, or mage skills? If there are no regional only resources why are there city sieges? What is the point?

As of NOW, there are no locks or traps, and thus no skill for dismantling them. There's nothing at all stopping you from becoming a fisherman, or a merchant though. Take it a step further, even..become a chef, who cooks what he catches, and sell quantities of food. There are a LOT of crafting professions, and although the system is a bit tedious, it's really quite amazing just how many things can be crafted. Many crafting professions also support one another. Pick up alchemy, and taming.....while harvesting herbs for your potions, you will occasionally find "steedgrass", which you can use to "craft" mounts....or just sell the grass for a good amount. There are so many skills in the game it would boggle your mind. Every little thing is based on a "skill", even mundane things such as jumping, and crouch-walking. These skills will also enhance your base stats as they are leveled. yes, resources are global...but they are not unlimited. The amount of territory you control directly influences your maximum potential. More territory = more resources = a bigger, more powerful war machine. And let's not forget the political motivations for sieging, and advancing. As far as that goes, let's not overlook the political roles that one can engage in. Why be a simple fish merchant, when you can be a diplomat, and have the future of the world balanced on your next word? And of course, the best reason to do anything in Darkfall, is simply because you can.

Nor can I really be just a fisherman or merchant. There are no traps to disarm or locks to pick, so unless you have a very good imagination, you cannot do these things within the current game mechanic. Nothing stops you from being a fisherman or a merchant, if that is your wish. There are mechanics in game that will allow for both of these possibilities. So what Can you be that would be considered part of an mmorpg world? Warrior Gatherer Crafter Leader Diplomat Spy Grunt Trader off the top of my head... What other skills can you develop besides the normal ones, crafting harvesting, weapon, archery, or mage skills? Pretty much covers the general categories currently available.

This not true, been in the game for amonth and not 1 disconnect or 1 cheater/hack spotted, I hide all the time from people and hardly ever get caught when I leave there actual sight. This kid just got killed too many times, Sure there are some issues most got resolved, I live in USA as well and my ping is 130-150 always and I seen all kinds of pvp and pve, like 1v1's to 200vs200 this game is fun as hell and offers a lot more than what these trolls say about it, dont real forums try it out for yourself Like the op did. |

Its funny how people thing a Normal FPS Is darkfall, first of all when you do a whole bunch of something and then lose it in 20 secs, u get that RUSH like in eve online pvp fights. Of course dfo is more open then eve, just got be smart and look for it in the right place. And you can become a lot more skill type of what he listed as well lol. This game is fun, it had a ruff launch but now it is deff a game that just needs a little more polishing to make it the game for me at least, like I said dont read forums, they are for cry babies. I just correct them here so people dont get the wrong Idea about a great thing such as darkfall. |

Planetside is a Normal FPS...huh. But to clue you in, i was referring to the diversity of game play options in plantside.
Not even sure if the rest of your post is English.

Perhaps, but still no reason to be rude. |
