A rolling stone gathers no moss but leaves a trail of busted stuff. |
Nearly everyone was saying this game would never be released. Now I'm wishing they had taken longer to get the game up to par. |

the game's fine, and keeps getting better. It's about time someone stepped up and made a decent game. Stop dwelling on what Darkfall deosn't have yes, and think more about what it DOES have, and the fact that more is added every week. I mean, does anyone remember early SWG?? No mounts, no vehicles....had to walk literally EVERYWHERE...hardly anything was implemented yet. But we played it anyway, and in time more and more was added, making the game better (at least until CU).

That is YOUR opinion...and since you don't actually play the game, I hardly think it matters much. |

And SWG also had numerous servers all financed by SOE. Darkfall does not...it has one small server financed by a small indie company. Are YOU going to step up and finance a server?? No?? Then don't complain. If they DID let everyone buy the game, and flood the server, you could then bitch about the unplayable lag, right?? Face the goddamn facts. A small company simply cannot afford to host enough servers right off the bat to accomodate the amount of people that a full release would bring in. I'd FAR rather have a smooth, relatively lag-free game than a slideshow. |

I highly doubt aventurine will be happy with just your 14 euros a month so no, his opinion as a potential customer does matter, actually everyone elses opinion matters more to them than yours, they dont need to do anything to convince you and throwing a couple of bones once in a while will do, the majority of ppl skeptic tho is where the money is for them and they need convincing if they ever wanna succeed as a company... so on the other hand, its your opinion sir that doesnt really matter much.
Edit: Unless your one of those guys that think that companies are full of good intentions and really just care about you.. then i rest my case.

DF for all its flaws is a madly fun game, and IMO it is the only one of the new batch of games that is a true MMO. Huge, seamless world, no instancing, no level segregation etc. that riddle the other socalled "MMO"'s.
If you want to play just a game, then stay with whatever you are playing atm. |

Fact is, that no one can actually nail the amount of financing that Aventurine has/had throughout the development process. From a low of a little over .5 million, to well over 20 million. Regardless, as of the merger of Razorwax and Aventurine, the World Builder was for the most part complete. Certainly, it was updated all these years, but damn, what else have they been working on all these years that was more or less 100% at launch? Nothing. None of the systems were complete. Furthermore, most of the meat, and all of the potatoes were cut from the game. I suppose on hindsight, sponsering events and rally cars wasn't a prudent business decision for AV/Darkfall, what ya think?
My guess is that Aventurine mismanaged the grant(rumored?) from the European Nations, and were not able to acquire further financing. Therefore, it was scramble and launch, or pull the plug. IMO, they should have pulled, Claus take his baby(Darkfall is his dream), and got the hell away from AV and A.T.F. and seek someone competent to publish his game.
Anyway, the only reason I responded to this, is the constant excuse of the small indie company, with a very small budget, yadda, yadda, freakin, yadda, yah... Like I have said before, I think the AV fleet of Ferrari's needed new tread, and the grant money was gone from to much "fun in the sun."
Release or die, simple as that.
For anyone that has been following this game since UO2 was axed, this game is an absolute disaster. For the rest that just love it because of the "newness", great. Have fun. But please quit trying to defend Aventurine's shortcomings. It is what it is, and it isn't what they have been advertising all these years.
Now, I'm out of Goose, and need to go to the store. Take care for a few.

I dunno, the people playing Darkfall seem pretty happy with it, who is anyone not playing to say the game isn't doing fine? As long as Aventurine continues to make improvements and add new players daily, no harm, no foul I figure.

Of course the people who are playing are happy with it, if they weren't happy with it they wouldn't be playing. But let's be real here.... in comparison to the majority of pay to play MMO's out there, it's not only extremely unfinished, but hellishly buggy way too often, and call me a carebear allllllllll you want, but I don't like seeing/experiencing the constant newbie ganking going on. I don't see how this game will grow with that particular aspect of it. And I've been playing Eve for years. So before any asshats out there tell me to go back WoW they can kiss it. You go in Eve and head over to .4 space or lower and get your ass handed to you, nobody to blame but yourself. Live and learn and get a better ship. But AV has made a game that new players are not welcome at, either in game or in forums. I got my account, and I'm not happy with the money spent and the state of the game. I don't expect a perfect game, I just expect one that works and is fairly consistent in it's workings. I realised before buying that there were issues so I took that chance. I realised there are no true safe areas so I didn't go in blindly. But this game is so horribly managed that I can't believe AV hasn't been sued by whomever gave them the money to make this game yet. Being an independant gaming company is absolutely NO excuse for bad business practices. If I wanted to buy something from a small mom&pop shop and they just didn't have the goods I was looking for, I'd go somewhere else, which is what I'm going to do with this game. |

Well..... people who played SWG didn't wait for 9 years to play it, either. I mean, look guys....if a game was in development for 9 years, you would think it would launch in a better condition than SWG did. Someone once said DF fans would defend that game against anything. I now beleive that statement. For years they kept saying "Just wait... just wait... just wait..." Well... now... 9 years later... it's here - and what do they say? "Just wait... just wait... just wait..." |

Why yes, I do remember early SWG. They didn't have the mounts and vehicles by intention. Sucked, but that's the way it was. And SWG was an Epic game at one time. It still had a hint of Epicness to it after the CU. After NGE that's a whole different ball of wax of course. But it was a fucking awesome sandbox style game. The only game that comes close to Epic (in my opinion of course) is Eve. Will DF ever achieve that status for me? I don't know. Maybe I'll know more as soon as I figure out how to get my character unstuck from the elevator that she's been trapped on for a while. Maybe I'll know more if I can find a place to raise some skills up without getting ganked repeatedly. DF tried too hard to be like a fantasy version of Eve, but seamless. Failed miserably. I don't give a shit about seamless. It takes me all of 3 seconds to go through a gate in Eve. Big fucking deal. Well... that 3 seconds feels like eternity in .4 full cargo during a haul and a pirate at the gate though :P |

MMO or not, it's still uses FPS and the ping sucks for anyone not near Germany. A ping over 100 isn't decent, and anyone that thinks that it's ok doesn't have much experience with FPS games. The game is shallow and requires a lot of grinding. Whether you're just "playing the game" or actively trying to increase skills, gain gold, or aquire harvests. All of those things require you to perform the exact same act repeatedly. You will grind the same mobs, harvest the same reasource, or fight the same people, for an incredible amount of time to get any place. They haven't been adding "more" every week. Each patch includes changes that are done during betas. I agree with the OP. |
