TBH I don't see any real difference between this problem in single player RPGs and MMOs. I can only assume you know people that played and beat single player RPGs where your character was the epic hero...did you feel any less immersed in your story after talking to other people that played the game and beat it before you did? Your character can be important in a story based MMO without being "the One". Take LotRO for example. Your characters will never be the ones dropping the ring in the flames of Mordor, but you can still play an important role. |

The problem with this thread? It's the same tired argument being regurgitated from at least as far back as January... |

Kishe, The difference here is that Bioware is really trying to make every character's experience fundamentally different from every other character by making choices influence the storyline. If this pans out the way I hope it wil, there will be very few characters with exactly the same path through the game. I suppose only time will tell if it works out that way... Personally I have high hopes. Bioware rocks! |

The problem with people who don't like story based MMOs is they think that everyone in the world should know about it. MMOs played:SWG,NGE,Warhammer, World of Warcraft, Star Trek Online,Eve, Star Wars the Old Republic. |

Sure there is. There just aren't neon icons over NPC heads and like icons on a minimap to Garmin your way to it. There were quests in UO, as there were in AC. You just had to look for them. "Many nights, my friend... Many nights I've put a blade to your throat while you were sleeping. Glad I never killed you, Steve. You're alright..." |

I realize that any response here will probably do more to encourage you to write posts like this again in the future, but I'm writing anyway. Why? I'm choosing to believe that you'll learn something about yourself and your ego. That is to say that posts like yours above are destructive and have only one purpose - to inflate your own ego and draw attention to yourself. That the OP has chosen to revitalize the topic in a different thread (and if the number of responses is any indication) simply reinforces that the argument is not tired and, in fact, still persists in the minds of at least some MMO players. My advice to you would be to try to recognize moments like this when you feel like elevating yourself at someone else's expense and instead choose not to do so. You will be a better person for it. And believe it or not, I'm trying to do you a favor here by telling you how to keep from looking stupid.

Well, I hate to say this, but the issue with storybased MMORGPs are.....they tend to be short with no endgame. BioWare just won't understand, players want ENDGAME!!! |

Likewise? Seriously, every other thread on this site (including this one) is little more than negative tripe. The OP has chosen to "revitalize" this topic? You mean wallow in yet another sanctimonious prediction of doom & gloom for a video game that hasn't even entered beta? And what's your stance? That this is beyond reproach? There's nothing constructive in this thread—certainly nothing that merits discussion. It's just another jaded gamer rollicking in preemptive schadenfreude. Honestly, isn't it all getting a bit tiresome? |

Well regardless of what anyone else thinks about this game I am really excited about it. I doubted Bioware twice. Once was with Jade Empire. I thought to myself there is no way they can make an Asian kungfu action game for a console that I will like. Well I saw it on sale and bought it anyways and wow was I was wrong, I loved it. Great story fun game. Then when Mass Effect was getting ready to be released I thought a space game that isnt Kotor eh my skeptic mind began again. (not much of a sci-fi guy) Then I rented in from gamefly and wow what a game. Sure there were things I didnt like (controlling that damn buggy >_>) but man it was just so fun. I cared about the characters in the game. The dialog trees were a game in themselves. I wont doubt them again. They made my favorite game ever in Neverwinter Nights. Dragon Age looks amazing as well. Bioware has the track record,at least for millions of gamers, to be the one company that can pull this game off the right way. Expectations about this game are already sky high and will probably grow and grow as it gets closer to release. So much so that I dont know if ANY game could live up to them regardless of who made it. If it doesnt have this feature or that feature or doesnt do this right or that right, I know, based on the history of the company making it, it will be a blast to play while I play it and that is all I play games for to begin with. |
