Quite personally...the OP is trolling...he basically hates half the things that people like about the game.  The game has been praised for it's visuals and innovative combat.  The skill deck requires actual skill and works relatively well, although it isn't explained well.  Character creation/customization is damn good, and the art style has a nice fable-ish feel to it.  And I have to say, I was really wowed by how amazing the Shards and Shardships looked...truly original.  The game could use some better quest dialogue...I know they're trying to be funny...but it looks sorta amateur.  Otherwise, so far the game's been a blast, and I expect that with some new features coming soon this game could claim a place in the industry.

Also...to all those shouting the "Play-to-beta" crap...remember that NO game is complete when it releases.  Not even WoW's expansions release with all their content.  If they did...then everyone would complete it within 3 months and be bored.  You try releasing a game called "Wrath of the Lich King" where the Lich King's instance isn't available yet so you can't stop his supposed "Wrath".  Seems ridiculous, yet that stuff happens all the time.

I love how peoples opinions are nullified by their hobby.  Makes perfect sense.

I played WoW for two years.  Come on now and tell me why my opinion isn't valid.

Actually no need.  You played WoW too until recently I'm guessing.  You had a level 75 DK which means you had a t least one level standard class.  It also means you played within the last few months that WotLK has been out.  It's funny that you used to play that game, but as soon as you quit every person who played that game with you loses the valitity of their opinion in your eyes because they play the same game you played.

Good job dodging the question.

My bad I shorted you 7 skills.  All the difference in the world.  Also, yea, if you're terrible you maybe only used 2 skills as a priest.  You probably also got kicked from raids for failing.

"Holy god" wtf is that anyway man?  I shorted you 7 skills.  7.  That's a reason for such a dramatic response?  Try and grow up a bit and lets talk about what I asked you about instead of dodging what you said.  Why is someones opinion invalid because they like wow?

I dunno, I personally am enjoying it.  It's not the second coming by any means, but there are several things I like and dislike about it:

Like:

Attempt to tell a story / the presentation: I hate MMOs that just through you in there.  I actually like to read the quests, listen to music, and admire the world.

The music, which I like - wish it played more often, but it sets the mood

The art direction (note: NOT LEVEL GRAPHIC DETAIL) has a good feel to it

Ability to be skinny, fat, buff, or massive (for humans, anyway) THOUGH I would have preferred if, instead of the Daevi (which feel as if they were just put in there to have something other than humans) I would have preferred only humans but additional options (child, normal (not buff), elderly, missing limbs, etc.).  Still, it's a nice change of pace from most MMOs where everyone looks like a Boris Vallejo painting come to life.

The way combat feels: the ability to have group buffs, the interaction between classes, the subjective feel of how you run and dodge and the accompanying animations, etc.

Dislike:

Low spawn rate of mobs (well, ones you need for quests, anyways - some mobs, like bandits and such, spawn way too quickly by contrast)

Camera often feels as if you are too close or too far from your character - perhaps the default is set too high

Skilldeck system feels restrictive, at least at the beginning

I haven't seen any armor to buy (nor clothing) that wasn't available at the beginning to choose from

Neutral:

Level of graphic detail: I don't care how many polygons are used, or how shiny the sweat is on someone's face, I only care about aesthetic beauty.  That's why I like Spellborn, and WoW, and Lotro...yet games like EQ2, where the animations seem off and everyone runs like they are a sped-up cartoon, I don't like.

PvP: Haven't tried it; generally don't PvP.

Guilds: Not in one yet

Raids/Dungeons: Haven't experienced one yet.

Whoah whats with all the flamebaiting and trolling over here today? :D

TCOS is a pretty good game imo, and its nice to see it along with a few other games like fallen Earth, Darkfall (even though its failed) and stuff like Champions online coming through with a different approach than the usual generic grinder clones like Aion.

it si true i use to play WoW im not one to lie just to get my point across. But it is very true that i never liked WoW. It just so happened that my 3 really good friends played and it was fun to hang out with them in there guild. I always watched tv or listened to music while i played because i was so bored with the game play. And you can believe what you want I was never kicked out of anything.....anyone can run up behing a mob and click 1,2,3,4,5 rinse repeat. It wasnt hard to not screw up.

The things about pathing, ai and models are all true they are real things not opinion. As a programmer i can tell you that they did not do a great job in this sense. But the opinion part about combat and art direaction.....if people love the WoW combat and art direction then YES im not going to take your opninion as anything becasue i hate the WoW art direction and combat. its that simple.

Yet if it's one thing WoW has proven...it's that people LIKE generic high fantasy MMORPG's where you grind to enjoy end-game content.  In fact....10's of Millions of people like it.  And then...the genre will cease to exist except for nostalgia...similar to the Platformer Genre...which used to be the be all end all of games.  Almost all games were platformers trying to cash in on Mario's success.  Now platformers are only made to remember the good old days.

Dull game, at least for me. Nothing really new in it to peak my interest.

That's just my opinion, but it's also the opinion of someone that could have been a paying customer, so take it for what it's worth......

After reading that, your opinion became worthless. It is fine not to like WoW's art direction, but invalidating the opinions of others because they like it? Don't make me laugh.

Look.  I don't care if you played WoW.  I don't care why you played it, if you loved it, or hated it.  Doesn't matter to me.  What matters to me the increasing trend I see amongst mmo players.  People insulting anyone who plays or likes WoW.

I played WoW for 2 years like I said before, and I honestly hate the game now.  I hate the direction they have taken with the game and almost all changes made to the game.  However, it's not ok to just disregard someones opinion because of a hobby.  That's roughly 11 million people who's opinions are going to pass by you without so much as a second glance.  All because they do something that you don't do.

George Will wrote an article for The Washington Post a week or so ago called Demon Denim.  The whole article was idiotic, but one part stands out to me.  He makes an implication that people who play video games shouldn't be allowed to vote.  I'm not putting your comment on that same level, but it is on the same scale.  It's still judging someone based on a hobby.  It's still idiotic.

I don't care about Spellborn man.  If you have found a game you like mixed in with the garbage releases this year, then I'm happy for you.  I wish I could find a game I enjoy.  All I really wanted to point out was how many interesting and intelligent opinions you might miss out on because of a close-minded opinion.

Feel the need to elaborate a bit more on ppl's misconceptions of what this ui really offers.

Well i understand that the rolling ui can be a little restrictive as to what moves you can use at any one given time but you need to remember that while having a choice of 5 skills at any time ..we are also totally moble while doing so, which in turn allows for fully fluid combat while not having to reach all sorts of keys with our left hand. It allows us to fully concentrate on staying mobile while also having a nice selection of moves. But even more importantly ..it allows us to use the 1st person method of control in a completely new light. We have the dynamics and speed of a FPS coupled with the deeply elaborate strategy of an mmo game. Combined successfully for the first time in a breathtakingly beautiful world.

Now i understand that we have mobility during combat in other games such as AoC but you are restricted by how many moves you can access via the keys used for combat in game while moving. If we want a large selection of moves to be available in combat we can ..but only by carefully planning the ui and key mapping to your preference ..but in games like that your never truly 100% mobile if you want full use of all the most effective moves available from having to press all sorts of combinations of alt/tab/shift and 1-5 keys.

While reaching for these keys were compromising our mobility in battle. As in many other mmo games that market themselves as having a fast and dynamic combat mechanic. They are all hampered by the restrictiveness of how many keys you can reach on your keyboard while been fully mobile ..and lets face it, no one wants to use mouse clicks on screen any more, that style just doesn't fit in with many of todays combat inspired mmos.

TCoS does away with this problem and adds an extra element of gameplay with the 1st person method of control. Now for me ...a person that loves dynamic action in a game but also thrives off strategy and planning, well this game is everything i've been waiting for. I consider myself lucky that i stumbled upon it when i did.

I was looking forward to many upcoming mmos ..namely Aion. But after having my fill of TCoS i really cant see myself going back to the traditional style of mmo. It would just feel like reverting back in terms of gameplay, so I'm sold on TCoS for now, it has totally taken away the appeal of most current and upcoming mmos for me.

I like to think of TCoS as the iphone of the mmo world ...revolutionary innovativeness that totally changes the way we see a product. It has a similar intuitiveness in that anyone can pick it up and play, its easy to learn and a joy to use.

TCoS is also easy to learn and a total joy to play ...but takes a lot of dedication to master. At lvl 43 my head is reeling with possibilities of what is achievable with the skill deck. But yeah ...I LOVE THIS GAME!!!

i did not write it clearly............i meant if i hate the WoW art direction and someone loved it then why would i take there opinion on this games art direction seriously (i wasnt talking about all there opinions). Im sorry if they like talking cows and pretty colors then im not going to take there art direction opinions seriously. I love the skills in GW if someone had an opinion on the skills you get in TCOS and loved the GW skills i would take there opinion more seriously on that matter then if someone liked WoWs skills. I dont see anything wrong with that.

I don't really agree with much you've said on the game being revolutionary but you've mounted the best defense for this game I've seen so far.  Kudos on that much man.

Sorry you have 5 little posts and a new poster in the TCOS forums and I was trying to provide you with some advice that its best to debate the points and not attacks the posters when you post. But since you don't care, then why bother?

Good job making your post and anything you post here idiotic and irrelevant.

This was your first post in this thread.  Why would anyone look at this and think "Oh he must not like Warcrafts art direction"?

You didn't specify what opinion you would take as hilarious.  Considering the OP slammed just about every aspect of this game in his post would it not be a safe venture to think that you disagreed with him on multiple points?

If you say you meant it on a more narrow scale than I thought, then I'll take that as honesty and let it go.

I like the game for many of the same reasons that you don't like it.  I don't know that it will hold my interest forever, but for now I'm more attracted to it than I have been to many other MMOs, including WAR, LotR (even though I'm a fan of Tolkein's world), and others (WoW had us all by the balls at one time, I think).  I've reached 15th fame level with my adept and find myself repeatedly surprised by the graphics of new zones, the accompanying music, and the storylines.  The writers obviously went to great lengths to edit and refine the dialogues as I've seen very few grammatical errors thus far.  Although they may not have created the next great game, Acclaim has presented a very clean game.  They've done a lot of things right here.

The bad?  Yes well, there's some.  There are boars.  Ya.  Every game has boars and I'm tired of killing them.  And cats.  Panthers.  I'm partly serious here and partly not.  As much as I like the game, in the beginning you really do have to trudge through what seems to be a number of unrelated quests just to gain some fame levels so you can finally become involved in a impactful storyline.  Killing specific numbers of boars (or any other animal) in order to reduce their numbers in the forest when you know damn well they're going to reappear a minute later is a little, eh, ungratifying.  But this is a pet peeve of mine and every game out there to date has this issue.  There are, of course, other issues that could be improved upon and I think they probably will be.

Lastly, I do like to read opinions, but not when they are unproductive.  If you're going to bitch and whine, do it to your friends over the phone and then come here and write something more balanced.  Give credit where it's due and if you're going to complain about faults, offer up some solutions as well.

o i do disagree with him on multiple points, but people were reading my post that if he likes WoW i wont listen to ANY of his opinions EVER about ANYTHING and that is just not true. but on certain aspects of a GAME it will. I know games are not RL....but isnt this forum about games????  Im not disregarding him as a human becasue he plays WoW jeez people. I just used art as an example to get my point across.

But i stand by my first post I will find his problems with the game hilarious in terms of key components like combat and art direction (he really didnt talk about much more in his post),  if he likes WoW.  so what? this aint RL get over it .........im not going to judge people opinions about things other then comparisons of certain aspects of MMO's just becasue they play WoW.
