I have like a natural +8 Dexterity so when it does hit the fan I just duck out of the way.

Don't hate me because I'm fast.

It's better to lurk in forums and be thought a fool...than to endlessly "Quote" and remove all doubts.

This just goes to show how messed up DF is from a 'ruleset' standpoint

1. The main attacking alliance used gold to make their cities unseigable.  Mobs are still being exploited non-stop to come up with this gold ( ie, trapping high level mobs on terrain and then camping them non-stop).   With an unlimited amount of gold, it's easy to go on offense and just make your cities unattackable with the exploited gold.

2.  The  major defending alliance is exploiting by 'going to war' against guilds that will never attack it.  This keeps the real enemys from taking those cities.  Best way to guard your cities is to go to war against guilds that are in your alliance. 

This is exactly like the 'rogue' system...  it is so easily exploited that it defeats the purpose and ends up doing more harm than good.

This isn't free for all pvp with city seiges.. this is all about exploiting game mechanisms. (imagine that).

And the game server crashed and reverted most of the fighting.... yeah, great game.

The article makes it sound like some political war, but it is just a matter of getting a few people from other clans to exploit game mechanisms (going to war with people that are your allies).   Once again, DF is all about the exploits

Regardless of the exploits being used (some might call it taking advantage of the in-game mechanics) I have to say I doubt there's many games with such full scale total warfare going on where the stakes are this high outside of EVE. (and DF may have even that game beat)

Its an interesting change of pace, but doesn't sound like its really possible to carvve out a peaceful existance there, seems like more than some other recent release, there really is WAR around all the time.

It's the proto-zerg formation phase. Some will notice the similarities to strategies worked out in Shadowbane and that many of the alliances are direct transplants. We'll see if they pull back or if it proceeds to the kind of strangle hold Covenant of Swords executed on theTreachery server.

It's simple really. If you want to claim a city you must always bet something yourself in return.

If your clan already has one or more cities you make them vulnerable and allow them to be sieged and taken when you attack someone else's city.

If you on the other hand do not possess a city you can instead, bet an amount of gold that will be given to the defender in case you lose. Winner takes it all.

However one unique aspect is that since there is only one server. This affect everyone who plays the game. There is no 'only happening to them' aspect. When you think about things on WoW/WAR/etc its some other server. Least in darkfall you can say "Its here'

Agreed. Single server worlds are great for that. Everyone has a chance to participate in, benefit from, or influence everything that the entirely of the playerbase expereinces or does.

To be fair, it's lasting a lot longer with the recent patches. Stability is improving.

Also, you have to realise, 3/4 of the playerbase is invoved in these battles. In a seamless world, no less. That's a hell of a lot of server stress, especially for a game that's not 3 months old yet.

Teething pains....nothing more.
