There were many reasons why I quit Age of Conan but I think the main one was that there was no interesting endgame. I wasn't having any fun so why should I keep playing? One you reach the higher levels, game is basically over and you can either reroll a new character or quit, so I quit.

Why did YOU quit Age of Conan?

Why did YOU quit Age of Conan?

Bugs or technical issues
Low population
Boring crafting
Instances
Small zones
Disappointing combat system
Lack of promised features
Lack of endgame
I just didn't like the game!
I didn't like Funcom lying to me

You forgot the most common one.

"dont have time anymore!"

and

"I maxed 3 chars so I got bored"

Yes, I could only put 10 reasons so I had to leave something out. But I don't think those two are very common reasons. Most of players don't have the energy to max out 3 characters if they don't like the game. Most players left way before they reached max level.

Damn, I should have put that one in. It would have been interesting so see how many trial players quit. Maybe I will do another post of the topic.

EDIT: Ok you were talking about beta and I mixed it up with trial..

And just so you know I was being honest, the beta was okay, but it ran glitchy on my system and never really had a smooth flow in the movement so I didn't proceeded beyond the free test.  I did test and submit all I could though, but an important part of my gaming experience is character physics.

It might have changed since, but I'm now busy with other things.

lack of endgame, hands down. i didnt even mind the fact that it did not have directx10 or what not as others did, but after doing the onyx and atzels a gazillion times the only thing that kept me logging was twice a week for our scheduled raids.

this game seemed to revolve around doing dungeons over and over again, and lacked the substance in between.

You are right. I meant "Lack of endgame" which is in your poll. However "dont have time" or "RL cought up with me" is imho the most common one for every MMO. Even the bug ridden ones.

I got to 80 and felt like I beat the game. I lost interest in the pvp so fast and with how broken the classes and items were I didn't see any reason to keep playing or ever play again. But mostly started with the impression keep battles would be great and the got really turned off that they, and other features for them weren't working. Even though there are improvements I'm happy to have closure with AoC.

Yeah but see that's only YOUR opinion. It's basically a guess that it is based on absolutely nothing. What about about those 500k+ players who quit right after launch? They all loved the game but just "didn't have time"? Lol that must have been a busy month

Sure people quit because of RL issues but I doubt it makes into top-10, MMO's being so damn addictive and all

i agree with you - i suspect many people would stick to the game if they really enjoy it. even if rl issues get in the way, they will find a method to overcome it and play.

i remember back in the pre-cu days in swg there were reports of people loosing their wives over the game and they were still happy they could play.

Never had a video game company tell me lies before until Funcom. They actually changed my entire point of view on games now and I lost trust with alot of other develers due to them as well. When the launch of th game happened I was looking forward to the game so much but the lack of things on the box was a big disapointment.

No bar brawling and no DX-10 were the big ones for me as I hyped friends of mine to play it with me due to these features and was turned into a liar myself. Oh and the 10 dollars more they charged for the CE edition ( in comparison to other MMO's like WAR, Lotro, WOW ) which was easily the worst CE I have ever gotten for an MMO before was another nice way to get my money. The drinking cape that Funcom gave to the CE people and ....everyone one else was a great reminder of the fact their was no bar brawling.

I would have never stuck with the game anyway since there is only 1 starting zone for EVERY toon you play and the game just felt like it was on rails to me being so linear and ofcourse all 7 million loading screens.

The good that came from this is I was turned off by the few loading screens in LOTRO but after a few days in AOC I really don't mind them anymore. AOC had so many loading screens it actually made my next time going back to LOTRO a permanent one.

Playing- Lotro

Lucky you.

Let's see... where shall I begin.

$OE with SWG, EverQuest 2 (and now Vanguard).

Monolith Productions / Warner Entertainment with The Matrix Online.

World of Warcraft (lot of the features were added in the first year after launch, just like FC is doing now tho).

NcSoft with Tabula Rasa.

EA Mythic with Warhammer Online.

.....I can go on really... Dark & Light, Darkfall, Auto Assault ....

-----------------------------------

For me, I quit end of June last year, because the game started crashing and running like total crap for me and my girlfriend. Combine that with almost everyone in my guild quiting for pretty much the same reasons... and that was all I needed to hit the CANCEL button.

Now I recently returned with my gf and some friends and the game runs actually very smooth. I can run everything in MAX settings and still have good Framerates. Something that was unthinkable may and june last year!

They added lots of content to close the gaps, so the feel of grind has vanished.

They revamped a lot of the dungeons and their loot tables are now a lot better. (Stats of gear is still crap ofcourse. But that's gonna change with patch 1.05 right now).

All in all... the game feels a lot better today and I am having lot of fun. I even did some PVP minigames for the first time (wich didn't really work nor pop last year) and they were a blast.

That's my 2 cents.

Cheers

no doubt about it, endgame content

followed the game a year before it was released and no amount of bugs or crashes were gonna prevent me from getting to endgame

had they warned me that theres nothing there and I should take my time and just enjoy the scenary maybe I wouldn't have helped hype the game or gone endgame so quickly (and also condemn the game later)

but facing the fact, I was just out of my first addiction (wow) and was looking for something else, the age of conan lie which got out of control provided that addiction for me (in anticipation)

endgame content

I've also always held to the belief that if they had it, then people wouldn't feel sorry for you if you had a shitty pc and couldn't run the game

so instead the first thing they started fixing were bugs and stability crashes, something I really didn't have much problem with

even the missing 55-60 content at the time was worth the struggle, or at least thought to, since we all knew the real game was in endgame.  turns out the real game was in the look of the game, which you can experience in the first few levels or so

Just out of curiosity when did you quit AoC? :)

At the beginning game wasn't that bad. Even after finishing Tortage. People were everywhere, it was easy to group and that was fun. I didnt really care for endgame as i thought back then that reaching lvl 80 would take me few months.

Well, and then i reached lvl 50 in two weeks of casual gaming and started worrying about the endgame. UI was/is still stupid and horrible and even after 5 hours sessions i couldnt get used to it. Graphics were great and that was it. Graphics.

Stats system was clearly based on Anarchy Online, even a week after launch you still got communiques like "en shield 219".

This game is flawed from the core, and nothing's going to make it better. Instancing is shite, guild warfare and city building pretty pointless as you do it in a specially dedicated instance and not the world.

AoC is pretty, violent but flawed to the point of  "i can't be bothered".

I think most people (including me) quit the game within the first 3 months.

Then you had a bunch of people that paid 6 months subscription (always stupid to do with a brandnew just launched MMO if you ask me) that ran out in november / december last year. Wich was probably the reason they still had somewhat decent subscription numbers till Q4 2008.

The problem is, how are you going to allow every guild to build a guild city! I am not talking about the limited 9 battle keeps.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely loved SWG pre-NGE and still miss it, but reflecting the situation on SWG years later and you can clearly see the issues that came with their system.

Most of the Guild Cities in SWG were ghost towns. The only town that was actually very busy, was the Crafters City outside Naboo (Eclipse server) as all the TOP crafters had their house there vendoring their stuff.

All those Guild Cities that were ghost towns were occupying slots of new guilds who couldn't build a city anymore, because all the slots were filled in. Or you had to go to some uninteresting planet and some shitty location half hour cruising from the nearest Shuttle Port.

Funcom never kept it a secret and clearly mentioned it from the start that they went for instanced Guild Cities zones, because they wanted EVERY guild to be able to at least build a Guild City.

They only wanted to limit the Battle Keeps to 9 per server (or was it 8 lol) to generate Conflict.

LOTRO went for instanced housing too. And so did $OE with EverQuest 2.

Cheers
