Champions Online Aion Free Realms Star Trek Online DC Universe and just about every other MMORPG coming out in 2009/2010 None of these games will bring anything new or truly innovative to the table. All "been there, done that". |

Aion = success with great reviews and well over 2mill strong playing. I wouldn't call that a failure. |

They may not bring "innovation", but that doesn't mean automatic failure.
Out of those you listed, Aion will be the first game that people play until "their" game comes along. For quite a few already, Aion already is that game.

And only so many like the whole Asian amine style of art. I am one but I know quite a few NAs who don't like it. I don't see anything as a WoW killer, not even "Rapture" (they don't have a real name yet). |

@ OP: Well seems you have a dim view of the up coming mmo's this and next years release. Champions Online - if done better than CoX, yeah will pull a good amount of subs from NCSoft. Aion - Played the COB, read the reviews, watched the live broadcasts, and watched the youtube videos. Not much bad that this game has, does many things better than the mmo's that have come out in the past 3-4 years since. Free Realms - what can one say about a kid freindly game and not really well know at that too. Star Trek Online - Wary because last time a STO game tried to come out it never got out of development. DC Universe - Shows very good promise and sure to pull a majority of subs from NCSoft if SOE does not screw it up like SWG.
@Rabenwolf: Maybe you just need to take a break from mmo's for a bit, your views seem to be a bit jaded by the level-based grind or quest grind that most of the mmo's out in the last 7-8 years have gone with. Your opinions are your's to spout if you wish but you have no basis say this mmo or that mmo will fail because your tired of what most mmo's go by to level.  |

I never really read anything about Aion, but I saw a post explaining how to join the chinese release. So I did. And honestly, I'm amazed. There's nothing innovative about the game (perhaps aerial combat, I haven't made it to that yet), but it's as if they copied to best parts of WoW, Warhammer Online and Lineage II. I'm not saying they copied anything, I'm saying it's AS IF they copied it. What I'm trying to say, is that Aion is a good game. I'm amazed, both by graphics, and by game mechanics. It'll be grand. Take it from a non-aion-fanboy. |

From looking at the Fallen Earth site it looks like a nice change of pace. Im hoping it or Jump Gate will be good before I either reroll a paly in wow (dreading the thought) or jump back in AOC which is looking like my next move................/ puts one bullet in gun, spins the barrel........ |

Aion - looks good, but as I have not played it, reserve judgement. DC Universe - CoX was awesome, but I can not see a standard set comic universe (DC/ Marvel/ even Mad Cow) really excel as a MMORPG. To many people wanting to be XXXX hero (Since CoX was its own world, had some uber lame Fanbois but most just wanted to create their own hero.) Champions Online - Looks interesting, but have my doubts of it. Free Realms - I am thus far not to impressed, but it does have some promise. Star Trek Online - As rabid Star Trek Fan (I am not a Trekkie, that is insulting), I must support this game, and try it out. As a realist, I am almost positive it will flop.

I think the OP does the classis mistake of saying: "If _I_ dont like it then it cannot be good." As to Aion, I seriously dont like the visual aspect of the game. Its the animations, the glamour of effects, the poses and voices. Every single visual aspect just make me grind my teeths. But even though I hate the visual part of the game I can see that NCsoft really know what they are doings. Seen from an asian perspective they have put in many western MMO elements into their usual eastern type of games and merged them. And it will probably appeal a lot to younger players even in the west. And knowing the expertice of NCsoft it will probably also run smoothly in NA and EU. "You are the hero our legends have foretold will save our tribe, therefore please go kill 10 pigs." |

I am pretty impressed with free realms and I feel it brings some new stuff to the table but here comes the big but..BUT it is geared toward children so you really cannot make that up as mainstream alongside the other games.If I was a kid I think I would much rather play Free -realms than WoW. |

In the next year, really the only release I'll be keeping a close eye on is Square Enix's (SE) new mmo. I think SE does thier games right, they don't blab about what you can do, what's in the game, how it looks. You don't get your hopes up, just to have them ruined when you log in and find something they promised and don't deliver. That has been the biggest failure of any and almost all MMOs since WoW came out. SE makes no promises, so there is no let down! Really SE doesn't have to make any promises, their record speaks for itself.
And no game will be a "WoW-killer", so just stop talking about it. WoW will be around for a long time, and one of the biggest reasons is they advertise. I don't know why other MMOs don't advertise on TV like WoW does. I would guess about half of thier subs (maybe more) are first time MMO players, who never knew anything about MMOs until they saw the WoW commercials on TV. When I used to play WoW, I used to talk about my days in EQ and I swear that like 75% of people were like what's EQ? lol
