Jon Belliss on Free to PlayWe recently had the opportunity to sit down with Jon Belliss, product manager for Perfect World International where he spoke to us about their take on the free to play business model, how more people are playing for free than you might think, and the future of free to play.

I like Mr. Belliss definition of FtP because it's fair to all players.

Hm, is this Socialism in gaming - the Wealthy minority support the Poor majority and BOTH benefit?

My experience with this game says that there are a lot of paying customers.  Some really spend it big, I know of some who have spent over $1000 US on this game and there are a lot more than one of them.

The territory wars use pvp to control areas of the game for income purposes.  It is heavily dependent on how much you spend in the item shop.  In fact I watch a big spender pretty much stand off a guild of 30 people all by himself in a territory war.   It is that one sided when it comes to pvp.

Sure, if you just want to pve in the game and are in no hurry to level you can play this game for free, otherwise expect to be using that credit card.

Damn this video is boring, why not make less grind focused games and then talk about your business model.
