The game has been released sicne the 26th of February. On the Game list, it is listed as released. If you sort the Game list by Released games, it is on there. If you look at release date, it is listed as 2/26/09. I did, however, notice that it hasn't been put into the released games forum list. That can't possibly be the criteria you're using though as the Released Games Forum List is by no means comprehensive and complete, but instead a sampling of released games... So, I'm afraid you "irritation" is for naught. The game is, and has been listed as released and has been properly listed since its launch date. Hope that clears things up for you.
Khan moment,
"STRRRRAAAAAAADDDDEEEEEENNNNNNNNNNNNN!" So you're going to leave me irritated like this? Not even bother to make an extra link after changing your bloody site again? I knew you bastards were just a bunch of sadists taking peverse and twisted pleasure in watching me suffer!

your complaining that mmorpg.com hasn't put a link in their released section, when the halfwits over aventurine can't even update their own website on their own product? me thinks you should be over at the darkfall forum

Under "Popular Game Forums" the "Released Games" category doesn't list Darkfall online (atleast it doesn't for me). So if you consider it released why isn't DFO there? It's been irritating me like a thistle up Scotties arse when he needs to invert the anti matter relays before they all get blown to pieces!

Read the name of that Category again please. Then relax and let it sink in again. Everything is fine really and as it should be. |

Darkfall is currently in a limited, paid alpha testing stage. |

Perhaps this will help, a simple picture can make it all so much easier to understand:
If MMORPG.com consider Darkfall to be released, then why is it not in this list?
Edit: You already answered this though, I missed it at first, and I think Argicola1 is still missing it too, so here it goes again: Quote from Stradden: I did, however, notice that it hasn't been put into the released games forum list. That can't possibly be the criteria you're using though as the Released Games Forum List is by no means comprehensive and complete. |

So looking at that list I guess even if a game is cancelled and has been dead for over 6 months (DnL for example), since it released at one time it remains on there? Interesting, I didn't know that DnL was still considered a popular game!!! |

Maybe we can make a whole new section entitled --- "sort of released but limited supply and artfical demand because we didn't think people would want to play our 'niche' game ane we just released before MO comes out with zero idea on what infastrucure is need to run the game but its ok because were like the best PVP FFA game ever " ? Not snappy ? Oh how I love this game with glee.... |

Since the game is NOT available to the general public then I would say it is NOT released and even their own front page shows no sign of it going gold. The best way to describe it as being in beta but you have to pay to get the privelege to test it. |

The game is a paid Beta. No such category exists so it's in limbo. |

I have to agree, with all the changes to this site, you'd think they'd update this list a bit and remove chafe like DnL, Shadowbane and others.

It seems Darkfall is now listed under "released games" under the "popular game forums". So once again we have witnessed the power of Stradden. This makes navigating alot easier for lazy basement dwellers such as myself ;)

i would have to agree.....the game is not fully released....since you can just walk into a store and purchase it nor purchase it digitally at a moments whim.

Shop is open tomorrow. Does not state that it will only be for a few people like all the other times. |

DF is one of a few games that have had these wierd releases that have been kinda released but not really but sorta.
If a game is released I should be able to walk into a store and pick up a box, or alternatively be able to make an account, download the game and begin playing. It's frustrating to hear a game is released but you can't play it. |

You can still sign up for the beta of darkfall on the official site. That pretty much answers the question. |

People are assuming (wrongly) that "released" means the same as "available to anyone and everyone who wants to buy it". This is seldom the case, as people who live in remote regions will attest to. Moreover it is quite common with other published material (or indeed almost any kind of consumer item) for a "limited edition" style release... whether it's a short run publication of an obscure book, a few hundred copies of a debut CD, a high end custom sports car, tickets to a concert, there are plenty examples of this being a common market practice. In all these cases however, you would not argue that the particular products had not been released *at all* simply because you weren't able to get one. Needless to say that this limited form of release usually occurs where the creator/publisher does not believe that a large enough market exists for the product to warrant the costly gamble of a full, unlimited release. Whether due to lack of resources, small size of market, an attempt to add a 'premium' value to the product, most likely all of these to varying degrees, Aventurine has chosen to go with a limited release... but a release nonetheless. It may never be clear whether this tactic will pay off in revenue for Aventurine (if indeed they even had any choice, which I doubt), but if nothing else it's certainly something that keeps their forums here on high activity. For better or worse. |
