"The one you call messiah is a lie"--- Gary Numan |
My question as above is, does this site consider this game to have released or not? I'm asking as DFO has been taken out of games in development shortly after mid Feburary, but still is yet to enter the released games category. So what is the official stance of this site? It seems they have DFO in an unofficial "limbo" category and it is starting to irritate me. What I'm saying is that a game has either released or it hasn't, there are no two ways around it. Will someone at MMORPG.com please decide if this game fits the criteria for released or not then put it in the proper pigeon hole? We've gone over two months now in limbo, so can someone bang their heads together and get a decision please? Or perhaps create a new limbo category for games such as DFO that haven't released but are no longer considered in development?

If you go the the Darkfall section you'll see the game is listed as final. That means it's released. I don't see anywhere it's listed as anything else but released. "Any sufficiently advanced incompetence is indistinguishable from malice." ~Greys Law |

But obviously the status of final doesn't equate to released otherwise it'd be listed under released games yes? And since they no longer consider it in development as they moved it from there, what does MMORPG.com consider DFO? I'm just curious and would like to know what MMORPG.com consider it, unless they consider it released but not important enough to list under released games, which is very hard to believe.

how can mmorpg.com decide if it's released or not, when not even aventurine can tell you if it's released or not?!

You answered it yourself. Actually, all joking aside - I wouldn't actually call it released until the general public is allowed to purchase it. Currently, unless it was recently changed, it comes down to something simular to drawing names out of a hat. |

You would not get a satisfactory answer on this if you went to Darkfall itself. Having said that however the game (like most mmorpg) is under constant development and currently they have been having weekly patches to add new features and address tech and player issues. If you consider a game to be released by whether people are paying to play it then the answer is yes it is released. |

It's released to limited number of people. Thus it's released, not the atypical mmo release but it's out. |

Why do you think it's not under released games? If you click on the top 5 released games their status is 'Final' also. |

Well I'm not giving my opinion nor asking for anyone elses, but perhaps opinions on MMORPG.coms stance. To answer you, if you look on the left beneath "Popular Game Forums" under "Released Games" DFO isn't listed. Yet is was listed under "Games in Development" two months ago. So I'm interested in what the deal is at MMORPG.com, what do they consider the status of DFO to be? Do they consider it released yet unpopular? Do they consider it released at all? What do they consider it exactly?

All released games are listed as final. So yes it does equate to released. Where is it not listed as released? If you click the games list tab and select released Darkfall is there.
Edit Ah I see what yo're referring to. It's listed as released it's just not on the top games list because it's rated so low. "Any sufficiently advanced incompetence is indistinguishable from malice." ~Greys Law |

Now that makes sense, thanks for informing me on that. Although SWG, D&L and Roma Victor are there but DFO isn't ... still doesn't quite make sense does it?

But both Perfect World and Runes of Magic are clearly released, not above 8.1 (8.1 and 8.0 respectively) and have more customers playing than DF and are not on the list either, so you could be right. I always thought the decision to put a game on the Dev/Released list was a deliberate decision based on the gut feel by the site Admins on what people were interested in. If so, then they are deliberately keeping DF off the list until it releases in a more conventional manner. (i.e. anyone who has the money to buy is permitted to buy it whenever they feel like it.). There isn't a category right now called "Controlled Release"

As I said, disregard what I wrote... I didn't fully read what you wrote. |

I agree that it seems to come down to MMORPG.coms gut feeling as to wether a game should be listed under released games and they feel DFO isn't ready to go there. Which leads to the question what state do they consider it in now if it hasn't released but is no longer in development? This controlled release happened with Roma Victor also, I'm interested to know what hoops Aventurine need to jump through until MMORPG consider this game released?

The only "hoop" is to have it be purchasable at any time by anyone. As far as I'm concerend Darkfall is still in a controlled beta or controlled release. It's not fully released. |

But is it readily available to some one who wants to pick it up at this moment? Nope. I wouldn't call that released. and comparing it with Roma Victor? DF is among great achievements in the gaming world!

I'm pretty sure Jon Wood has explained why this game belongs in the "released" section here before on threads similar to this. |

I was just comparing the release with Roma Victor, which was the same, not the game ........

If you look at release date, it is listed as 2/26/09. I did, however, notice that it hasn't been put into the released games forum list. That can't possibly be the criteria you're using though as the Released Games Forum List is by no means comprehensive and complete, but instead a sampling of released games... So, I'm afraid you "irritation" is for naught. The game is, and has been listed as released and has been properly listed since its launch date. Hope that clears things up for you. Cheers, |
