This should be seen as a warning to all those still queing up to play this game
After resubscribing to DF at the end of my initial months play I was suprised to find the purchase was easy and there were no problems in the automated process.
I went to the account management site, clicked "buy recurring subscription" typed in my credit cards verification code and was done. I had two emails in my mail box telling me everything was fine. I logged into Darkfall and played for 20 minutes, then logged out and had a bite to eat.
Comming back to the game, I ran the client and was given an error "Account not active (#3)" hmmm Tried again (same response obviosuly) Ok, so I checked the accounts system, my account was Active (apparantly), I checked my credit card, and I had, indeed, been charged.
Ok, this is where things get bad.
Looking for support
You have received an infraction at Darkfall Forums. Reason: TWO - You may not excessively communicate the same idea, phrase, or create spam within the community; you may not create any thread or post for the sole purpose of causing unrest in the community; you may not cause any sort of disturbance within a thread with the intent of ruining it; and you may not make one line posts such as IBTL, IBTB, BUMP, etc. Moderators are at their full discretion to enforce the spirit of this rule.
They deleted my post and slapped me down?
Ok, theres no real problem here for me, I call the credit card company and get my cash refunded. Tascos (who didnt reply to my PM btw) can go jump in the river, but, if you are thinking of trying this game, I would bear in mind AV's attitude to any problems you may have. If I had not got the cash refunded, then I would never have had a response from AV and they would have actually stolen the £10 or whatever it cost. Pathetic
And its not just me. With their limited numbers of actual players, a thread with 114 pages is a large % of users.
Do you take the risk with your time (money is not an issue for any game, its the time you sink into it) or do you wait for the next game from a company who can do the basics?
Bye Bye AV, and any fanbois replying with the "dont let the door" response, good luck to you, i hope you don't fall foul of AV's childlike business practises
Quick edit. Even with my money refunded, the account pages shows my account as actuive, the time ticking down but theres still not been a word from AV. Programmers maybe, basic business sense? None {mod edit to thread title}

Why am I not suprised. Seeing how it went at launch and their rampant billing problems. How they dealed with it and their customers... or better yet... putting all the blame on the customers or some other party, all but themselves. I am not suprised the exact same shit happens a month later. Now comes the great part ofcourse. We now go sit back, grab some beer and popcorn and see how Tasos is gonna spin it this time. Altho I expect the usual. Tasos blaming you the customers and some other party again... and the fanbois... well they gonna tell you now that you are not hardcore enough. Cheers |

Thats some nasty shit. Lucky i have had no problems. And none i know of either. I guess Aventurine get so much trolling they are unable to find the real "people". |

This sounds like a hell. I'll give my opinion in here. From the first time they announced they will have a "staged" game release it started to sound really "weird". In my opinion they are not "bad" people.Tthey just lack the resources to work better, they have probably one or two administratives to or maybe none, to solve this kind of problems. The smarter move in my opinion since the game was announced to be released in this way, was to wait and see. At least you got your money back ;) -=AlaKraM=- |

That's the reason why most games have a working, dedicated support infrastructure in place before "release".
I guess Aventurine decided that sponsoring rally cars was more important than having a functioning support staff. Oh well, it's been apparent for a very long time that their priorities aren't in the right places.
That's my opinion anyway. If someone doesn't like it, then THIS is for you. DarkFall FAQ - Read then Question with Boldness |

BTW you still braking your promise of leaving the forums and fully enjoying the game :) |

Nice deflect. It is the trolls' fault that billing is screwed up for the real "people". It couldn't possibly be the company's fault. ------------------ well i'm 35 and have a PhD in science, and then 10 years experience in bioinformatics... you? |

There was nothing "emo" whatsoever in the OP's post, which was worded clearly and calmly, so I would assume that the same was the case for their post on the official DF forums. You on the other hand show once again to the MMO gaming community exactly the kind of person you're likely to meet in Darkfall... and reinforce our gratitude that this POS game exists, not for its own sake but as a holding pen that keeps you all out of every other game.

{mod edit} I'm almost thankful for the p.o.s. that is DF. It keeps about 5000 of these immature asshats away from other games. Although for how long is anybody's guess... To the OP: Glad things worked out in the end with regard to your CC company giving you $ back. And thanks for giving the fence sitters a heads up. |

Good to know that other people are filing disputes with their credit card companies... OP, you should have filed a dispute of buying the game. Just point the CC company to their website, show them its full of false advertising and full of information thats not even part of the game...
You will get your $50 back you spent on this game... If AV says anything, just tell them to update their website and get rid of the false advertising so other people don't dispute their purchases like you did...
I am just glad to see someone else filed a dispute and got their money back for this failure of a game... |

I wouldn't ask for the cash back for the game, I got the first months play as was the deal. And I enjoyed it. Which is what annoys me to be brutally honest, DF is a really fun game, its an old concept, but one that I have been waiting to be brought into the current days technology ever since Asherons Call (where I was too chicken/slow for Darktide) I'm hoping the "other" PvP game inc soon has a better idea about dealing with people than AV had.

You'd think there'd be more support for an indie company that just pulled off what no MMO has done for nearly a decade. |

I'm sorry...but seriously. If you want to defend Darkfall, at least use arguments that hold merit. Being sold out on a staggered release schedule is NOT an accomplishment. I mean seriously....if they had offered access to all instead of 5000, then another 1000 and another 1000 and so on, yes, then it would be an accomplishment.
But being sold out of a small amount of copies that they control is not an accomplishment. It's rather sad that so many people who want to play the game don't even get a chance to do so because the company can't handle it. |

Er what exactly have they done that no one else has done for over a decade? Created a game with full loot whereby the loot is basically meaningless anyways? Sure the idea is great, however the actual game is lacking. You troll just as much as anyone here, just in a fanboy sense. You hide behind the word troll.
As for their complete ridiculous billing system I would not be shocked if you bought the game, then disputed the charges after your account was activated and still got a free month out of it. They don't seem to deactivate accounts very fast. If they claim anything you can just lead them to their piss poor website that misleads anyone buying the game. |

Er what exactly have they done that no one else has done for over a decade? Created a game with full loot whereby the loot is basically meaningless anyways? Seamless zoneless MMO with no loading screens, sandbox style play, something people have been screaming for since WoW dominated the market, twitch based combat incorporating a physics engine, arrow flights, spell flights, aiming your swings, massive 400 man sieges (no artificial limit on how many people can fight in a given place), twitch based naval combat, mounted combat (AoC managed to get that one in), need I go on? They did all that and more with only 30 people and a 10 million euro budget. WoW, on the flipside, with hundreds of people and many many millions of dollars managed to create a game void of ANY unique feature, not a single innovation.
