SWG might be the most brilliant MMORPG ever created. All of the features are there, and it was so far ahead of its time when the game was released. It did fall under bad management and a saboteur at SOE; this saboteur, in seeing a competitor developing (such as WoW for EQ) will strike at the perfect moment to bring a game down. It is amazing to me that saboteurs actually do exist.
Would you rather have a SW:toR or a game like SWG but new?

I'm sorry, but SWG was flawed in MANY ways. I enjoyed it for its time, but I am glad this game will be nothing like it. SWG was too much of a sandbox and not enough Star Wars. It was not exciting and was never deserving of the SW name in my opinion. This is not to say that it was not a good game... but a good Star Wars game? I think not. If it is anything like KOTOR, SW:TOR will be an epic Star Wars experience and a story worthy of the name. |

i just want a fun, interactive, immersive, well made star wars game. It can be skill or level based, dont care which, long as it is good.

a well done SWG2 with all the features of the first one (pre nge,pre cu) and all the bugs fixed, without memory leak, without jedi and more pve content and weapons/armour set can be the best mmo ever. without any doubts |

I still play the old pre-cu/nge SWG. So I am looking forward to a new experience in the Star Wars Universe. SWG had great concepts and perhaps my fav mmo to date, but as you said it was sabatoged. SWG was certainly not for everyone and took a lot of dedication to play and enjoy. Hence why the change was so drastic and painful for some. Seems most mmo's today have moved away from that complexity to appeal to a majority audiance. I have learned to have 0 expectations when it comes to mmos. In this case I do hope Bioware makes an engaging game that will appeal to a majority and not a minority with enough complexity and fun factor (pvp, pve, exploration, etc) to keep me subscribed for more then the 1st free month and 60 day time card there after. |

A Sci Fi game much like SWG was .. without the need/use of a Star Wars license. I really wish that MMO developers would move away from 3rd party IP's. There are enough issues with making a MMO already. So far it has seemed the addition of an IP you don't own and the constraints involved obviously create more issues. Not to mention that its like making a moive based on a book. Some people are going to love the movie.. others are just going to list everything they did wrong (compared to the book). Just my opinion... |

Biowear needs to make its own game. I don't think anyone should confine themselves to a previous game. If an SWG2 ever goes into development they should create their own game and not try to be like the first one was. Sent me an email if you want me to mail you some pizza rolls. |

This reminded me of a joke I played on my guild back in 2006 for some reason. |

SWG was a great but very flawed game. They, at SOE, never had a handle on the game and it just spiraled completely out of their control as time went on. The CU and the NGE did nothing to alleviate the issues with the game and just compounded their problems. Would I like to see an SWG2? As much as I would have liked to have seen a UO2. But, in both cases, the teams that are there now are not the teams that created those two games and I do not think that those current teams have either the talent nor the vision to be able to create either of those :) With that said I am happy so far with what I have read about TOR and will play it when it finally gets released. Hopefully they will choose good beta testers and they will release a game that is worthy of BioWare.:) |

I'm a little surprised that this question is even asked. SWG did have some great points, and it was a fun game, but I'm definitely ready for a Bioware take, especially because of what they created in the past, and even more especially because of what they did with KoTOR. Another point in ToR's favor is that I think the universe of KoTOR being less defined makes it easier to craft a story for an MMO. This is a story to be written, and a world to be explored. SWG was very confined because of the the time period it was crafted in. Sure, SWG tried to take a different path than the norm, and that was a good thing, but Bioware appears it is taking a different path than the norm as well, and they've got a great rep, and have shown ability to bring story to a game. Some might prefer one more than the other, but if ToR breaks some molds and brings something new to the genre, it'll be a very good thing. |

SWG was a great thing in its day, but that day has passed. Former glory can never be recaptured. Time for something new, and Bioware might be the company who can do that.

SWG was good back during its time. Once they screwed it up. The game was dead, and remains dead to many players. |

Well apparently, you want SWG2. The majority of us don't, as shown by your little poll there. SWG is dead, get over it. It was apparently a fun game while it lasted, but sadly it's gone now, and it's time to move on. There are other Sci-Fi sandboxes in the works for you Sci-Fi-Sandbox-y types, and SW:ToR -will- not be one of them. Please stop coming here with your 'we're entitled to SWG2, so plzplzbioware gimme D:' attitude [not just at the OP, but for all of you SWG-revival guys, please stop!]. I know what Bioware games look like. Sure we don't know exactly how experienced their team is with MMOs, and even though the genre's are different, they have much more similarities than they do differences. I have no doubt that Bioware will put out a fun, polished WoW/EQ-esque game with their standard Bioware features. I, personally, am excited as hell for this game. |

To start: Don't get me wrong. I loved SWG (pre NGE) and played it from beta till 3 months after the NGE (I wanted to give it as much of a fair shake as possible) and have even re-subbed temporarily twice since the NGE to try it to see if they've improved it enough to draw me back (unfortunately they haven't).
All that said: I do not want another SWG. The game, while fun, and while I would still be there if it hadn't been for the NGE, had plenty of flaws and really wasn't (and still isn't) very good at making you feel like you were part of a Star Wars story. Both KOTOR and KOTOR2, while not MMOs', DID make you feel like part of the story and feel like you were special. I have high hopes that BioWare will once again pull off their magic and make SW:TOR even better than those two. So, while I certainly wouldn't turn down a SWG:2 (as long as it followed a profession system rather than a class/level system) I would prefer, at this time, to see a SW:TOR which follows that style of play a bit more.

I like Bioware's "Vision" for the game. I would not be interested in a SWG2 game. I'm sick and tired of game developers putting work style mechanics into MMO's like SWG in order to protract our subscription payments. These lazy bastages need to start making games fun with decent content and then they will see that we will stick around longer with a quality game that doesn't depend on underhanded business practices to keep people playing. I think Bioware has the intelligence and the history to pull off a game like this. |

I'm looking forward to playin SWTOR, have a feeling Bioware will deliver somthing fun. I don't have any interest in playin an SWG 2, however, what i would like to see is a sandbox MMO like SWG was before NGE. I know it wasn't for everyone but a decent amount of people enjoyed those game mechanics including myself. In my opinion, the biggest problem with SWG is that it had the Star Wars name attached to it. I aggree with another post that said they come to expect 0 from an MMO, but when you have anything with Star Wars in the title, there is gonna be an expectaion. I know even a buisness like Sony would expect that that their big name game should do as well as the other guy and if not, try to change it. My point is, i think if SWG had been what it was without the Star Wars cannon, it might still be around today. So SWG 2? no thanks. Show me somthing that most would call too complicated or boring and I bet I would find another fun game filled with people I would enjoy playing with. |
