I can remember when SWG went live, I had some friends who where die hard fans of the films, yet after a few days playing the game they left saying it was nothing like what they thought it would be, we all build up our own ideas of how the game should be, invaribly the game never lives up to those high expectations.

Wait, close the game down? What? Aren't there like 25+ servers and some 250-300K people or so playing it? If people are on the servers playing, why are we shutting down games people enjoy? Regardless of how many people enjoy it, seems like a psychotic attitude. From reading the whole read, I mostly got this out for why: There is a slight delay in the responsiveness, therefore I hate this game and the world, please bend the world around me and my feelings or I will... I willl.... WRITE A PETITION! Please, gamers have a hard enough time as it is, don't make us look any worse. |

As for servers. I do see more and more requests to do at least one more round of transfers, I wouldn't be surprised to see it happen, people really want servers to be high/full for this game mostly (ok maybe not too full :p)
Take Ironfirst for example: Petition to Mythic: Merge or Move us (04-08-09) I have, for a long time; been an Ironfist patriot. I've been here since the beginning, and poured blood sweat and tears into this server and my faction. I've posted my butt off on many ways to save this server from self implosion; and many people called me a naysayer or nieve. Not at all true, I was trying to save Ironfist.
However my opinion has wavered; and I believe it is time for Ironfist to stand up as a whole and say "Mythic, we won't take second-rate population any longer". We pay as much as every other subscriber on more active servers; so allow us the opportunity to move, or be merged.
The ultimate solution for us would be to merge with another server with the same problem we have. Engage in server "clusters" similar to like DAOC had, and we can see more action at all hours.
Ironfist is fine during prime time, however any hour outside of that it is a complete wasteland where we're forced to duel to get any fun out of the game.
I'm as close to unsubbing as I ever have. I don't bring this up with ease either, it is with long thought and determination that I wish to save Ironfist and keep playing with the people I have since i started my journey into Warhammer Online.
It is up to you, Mythic; how you want to handle this. But we emplore you to make a decision as to our population problem.
Players of Ironfist; please reply to this thread and let Mythic know that we want change, and for the better.

Again, no need for a petition. The game is imploding handily on its own. |

The two Oceanic servers Darklands and Ironclaw listed on my list of servers to play on are always LOW/LOW. |

I can't understand why ppl think modern MMO's will be able to entertain you for long periods of time, I'l use my sons XBox360 as an example. He bought Halo 3 and completed the game in the first day, he played the multiplayer maps for about 2 weeks abd then grew bored with the game and has now moved onto a completely new game. He isn't going to be playing Halo 3 in the near future becuase it's become stale for him, very much like WAR or "Insert any MMO title here". Why do we have to keep playing an MMO when you've reached max lvl, when you've completed the RvR scenario's or killed the city boss, why stick around? I certainly do not intend to carry on subscribing to WAR once I've hit 40 and completed what I want to complete that is both new and fun, staying beyond a couple of months is a waste of money because the new content would not have caught me up, or there isn't enough of it being put into the game that is relevant. If ppl looked at an MMO as something that is meant to be played for only a few months then perhaps ppl might feel fulfilled and happy with the experience rather than playing it for upwards of a year or more, I got caught in that trap with EQ1. I now only play an MMO for a very short period of time, mostly a month, it doesn't cost me any more than if I was subscribing to just one MMO for years and years, because I cancel each month and then resub to a new MMO, for me I keep the experience fresh and usually I find plenty of updates have moved the game along nicely enough to provide me with another months entertainment. I think those days of sticking with just one MMO are long gone, there are guilds out there that do support more than 1 MMO at a time, Old Timers Guild is a prime example.

no game should be shut down unless it doesnt make a profit. Why is this thread only about warhammer and not any other game? |

(I know, MMO's are nowhere near that yet.)
Although that's putting it to the extreme that *is* the sentiment that drew me to MMO's. If I wanted games with a short lifespan I would *not* pick a MMO, since, in my opinion, you get a lot more value from non MMO games if you want short lifespan games.

It's a state of mind that enables me to keep coming back to old MMO's and finding fresh content for me to complete thus providing me plenty of value for money, something I know I will not get if I stay in an MMO where I have already completed the available content and I end up making either countless alts or completing the worst thought of idea in gaming history "Dailies". I've played or tested about 100 MMO's, out of those 16 are worth revisiting and I do on a regular basis, currently on my quick launch bar I have Dungeon Runners (great for a hr or 2) Age of Conan/EQ2/WoW though I'l be taking that one off soon/LoTRO/AO/EQ1/CoH/V/DDO/WAR/FFXI/AC1/Wizard 101 but thats for my daughter, though I do sneak a peek now and then/DAoC/Vanguard and lastly SWG. I pick and choose according which has recieved new content and what kind of mood I'm in, I doubt pin all my hopes on one MMO any longer, I've been playing them for far too long to know that it isn't worth it anymore, the games themselves change from one patch to the next so what you once held dear could be gone in a single update, so why should I show loyalty to just one game, why should'nt I in the interests of trying to keep my passion for MMO's alive keep mixing it up a little. This is the only way I have found that keeps me coming back, not sticking it out come hell or high water with just 1 MMO anymore, I don't show any game any loyalty other than paying that months subs.

RPG games are fun but there is just something about an MMO that appeals to me, I mean I played EQ1 for 5 yrs as my first MMO and thoroughly enjoyed my time in that game, but EQ1 is very different to alot of the current MMO's, that major difference is the way $oE updates the game on such a regular basis with expacs, 15 and counting. If I had been able to raid 24/7 I'd probably still be playing EQ1 but I'm a father of 3 and with a wife who detests MMO's which makes playing them for prolonged periods very difficult, so I've had to adapt my playstyle to what it is today, and it works for me and the family now.

For a long time i've been playing mmo's... and i mean long long time. UO, MU online, EQ, EQ2, Lineage2, wow for 4 years, warhammer and now trying aoc, and yet everytime i decide post i end beeing offended by some so called mature comunitys. Whatever they call me fanboy, troll or whatever. If ppl defend wow.. they are kidos with 12 years old that like cartoons and no skills and that never played other mmo before, If we talk bad about any game we are trolls... I would love that ppl started getting some brains or looking into a mirror before calling anyone troll. Seems that every time someone fart and talk bad about any game.. they sudenly have no reason to complain and are just mindless trolls who got no clue about games. Yet... 90% of this so called mature gentlemans, are the ones who pay every month for a crap garbage not finished product and still they defend it as if its their own family we talking about. We all know ppl got diferent tastes and preferences for games but theres one thing that is common in all world.. QUALITY. I dont need to like a game to understand if it got any quality... YES QUALITY. i dont mean types of game, concept or whatever. If game is well designed/coded or whatever you want call it. Anyone can see it. I would also like to say that i got pitty of ppl who calls trolls to others just cause they enjoy the game the other person is bashing or whatever. I rly got a LOT of pitty of you guys. Lets see it this way.. WE ARE PLAYERS... WE PAY TO PLAY.. and so far none of this companys offered me a new PC over this years so i could keep playing their game.. THey also dont pay my internet access, electricity, and other common needs. So lets stop defending this companys with all our energy and life, just cause you enjoy the game company provided you. You should start taking care of your own comunity.. not the freakign companys.. PLAYERS SHOULD STICK TOGETHER so they can PROFIT together from better games in the future. About Warhammer.... whatever you guys enjoy on it.. theres only one main and major truth about this game. This guys wasted milions or whatever cash they used to make this game.. Most of it i doubt that came from any of Devs pockets if any. They made a HUGE hype about it (yes, i've folowed this game for months and months, years and whatever), podcasts, forums, etcs etcs. I go shop, buy the game, play it 2 months just to find out this guys are dam good lyars (or whatever is written). Thats right, lying is bad. -crafting aint inovative and fun like they said.. its complete garbage -theres no economy -theres no comunity (or there wasnt any when i played) and i mean... ingame -war aint everywhere.... there might be some now in T1 cause of trialists, that just keep getting trial keys over and over -milions of bugs, and i mean annoying bugs -no content, RvR that was PvE 100%.. dunno now but im sure a miracle didnt happened.... ang zergs -PvE is complete garbage... sorry but coming from a real successful guild in wow... i feel like jumping out of window laughing when ppl was claiming pve in war was amazing and fun But... the main thing i feel ofended by Mythic. for using my money on their product.. is when i look at the poor quality in the game, stuff like the cast lag... (what fkg cast lag? theres no cast lag.. is called crap design/code whatever). its garbage 100%.. doesnt work, period. Its rly rly ridiculous that this guys released a game when the basics of an mmo imo are the smooth and a working game play. All rest can be added later... content or whatever.. Just make the basics rights.. If I spent 50 euros and one subscription to find out that this company that took years making this game... cant make a simple cast of spell, smooth and working, Im sorry but i lose my respect for this ppl. Least you can do when you make a game.. is make sure the basics are working... You cant buy a ferrari without the tyres cause it wont move from its place. Just show the rush they add in releasing the game and taking our money out of our pockets. Yes... i think this game should be closed, same as many others, when the minimal requirment for a game fails.. wich is basic game play. jumping, casting, meleeing, mount, swimm (LOL that one btw... i got shocked when i saw i couldnt swim under water, if we can.. in 2 months i never found out how.. tho this is subject for other discussion), but imo just show the rush and probably lack of dev quality to make this stuff working. The rolling system on items was broke aswell among other basic crap that never worked and it should be a requirment for any game to come out. And just cause you are having fun playing, doesnt mean you aren't beeing robbed. Lets put it this way... you guys paying every month a fee for an unfinished game plus the box you had to pay (mine was nearly 50euros), so they keep fixing (developing imo) the game that should been working since day one and it isnt... and NO.. i dont mean content, that can be added later. But game just wasnt half done, finished, fixed.. not even 20% of it was ready to be launched. But still most guys still pay every month a fee to this ppl and still you defend their product like you defend your own family. Im sorry for bad english and huge wall of text with repetitive phrases but my message is... stop calling ppl trolls just cause they come forums and talk bad about "your" game and start looking at a mirror and get the conclusion that is you and other "blinded" 200k players if many.. are paying every month, at least half of this game develpment. That should have been done previous launch. I simple refuse to do that.. I buy a product and i expect it to be working. And its this exact subscribers that call other trolls.. that are kinda ruining the future of other mmos and the quality ppl demand in next releases. Ppl will just start making games... launch at midle of development and assure the players pay the rest. This games, should all be shut down... theres no quality control or consumer defenses in this issue.. so start suporting each others instead of huge flame wars and same time feeding this incopentent programmers, coders or whatever they call themselfs.

im going to say this, there is ALOT worse out there, and for all of you crying about cant find war or fights or etc, BIG TIP! Go to a High Pop Server, Find a guild or group of friends, and go kill stuff, TA DA! T-1 thru T-4 i havent had 1 damn problem finding keeps to take or BO's to capture or just flat out fighting back and forth with Destro. Now dont get me wrong around 1-2 am, Eastern time stuff does slow down but thats expected. I just think a Petition to close WAR down is a bit much with all the crappier games around. |

I completely agree with you Anthara. But as these forums are famous for, you will now get flamed because English isn't your primary language. Because that is all what trolls have to go for. They have nothing substantial against your post, so then it's easier for them to start flaming you for spelling mistakes. ------ My biggest dissapointed with Mythic is exactly how you put it. From a company that brought us DAoC.... WAR is a total disgrace. Especially when you know how much of bigger budget they had for WAR. How many more people have been working on WAR... compaired to DAoC. It's just shocking! You hit the nail right on the head by saying that they didn't even got the fundamental basics right. And indeed. With that they lose all my respect. I have given them about 6 months time to address the major issues that plagued this game, but instead they threw cheap carrot garbage patches at us and 6 months later still nothing was fixed. I will never go back to this game. Simply, because this game will never be fixed. Cheers |

About high pop servers, my friend.. i waited 2 months for server merges so this game could be playable.. and for a matter of pride they ignored the fact they had "500" low pop servers just in self denyal (dunno how is written) of a failure. Making dozens of players quiting at every minute that passed without them making anything about it... ALL FOR PRIDE AND HONOR. So, incompetence + rush + pride and a denyal attitude + lies = huge lack of respect for all mmo comunity. I just think is sad that some ppl are actually still paying this game developement when it should have been done by the company before release, just cause is fun. Watching my friends playing soccer is fun too but that doesnt mean im going pay a 15 euros ticket every month to watch them play. |

I'l mention Horizons =) I still remember the devs telling us we could pick up a cow and drop it on our enemies, that alone made me buy the game, oh how disappointed I was.
