Like so many Darkfall fans you miss the point. Hacker banning? Great. Banning someone because of their name? Lame. You can't just assume that because someone has a screwy name, that they are automatically a hacker. What happened to investigating? I guess that got tossed out in favor of being lazy. So what you don't like someones name, that's no reason to ban them. If they are cheating then yes ban them. If GM's have so much trouble with a players name it is because the game is piss poor condition. Assuming everyone with a weird name to be a hacker/exploiting, is just the height of stupidity. Banning people without proving they are actually hacking/exploiting based off their name alone, is beyond moronic. It's the lazy mans way out of putting serious effort into rounding up and banning hackers. No different than a police officer assuming someone is guilty because of the ethnic background, or those witch hunts that went on back in the earlier parts of mans history. |

Permanent ban or deleting a toon seems a bit harsh. In many games it is difficult to find a unique allowed name, and after numerous unsuccessful attempts you may chose a name that is not in character out of frustration. However, names that are used as an exploit is another matter. Some fonts do not clearly distinguish between a capital letter "i", the number "1", and lower case "L". So it may not be possible to tell what an actual name is when it consists of a string like "lIl1lI". If this gives a player an advantage, it is an exploit and a warning or ban may be appropriate. |

One of the main reasons Im reserved about playing an FFA pvp mmo is because of the 10-17 year old griefers who make names like that and get their rocks off ganking people just for a laugh. After they get banned they act like they were for no reason. Im sorry you hate your father or get bullied at school. They just enjoy seeing people get really pissed off and its me some of the time. I probably will play it in a couple months and break my keyboard a couple times. Asheron's Call Darktide and Halo are the only games that cause shattered keyboards and Darkfall seems like the 3rd. Cant wait lol |

"There are two great powers, and they've been fighting since time began. Every advance in human life, every scrap of knowledge and wisdom and decency we have has been torn by one side from the teeth of the other. Every little increase in human freedom has been fought over ferociously between those who want us to know more and be wiser and stronger, and those who want us to obey and be humble and submit." — John Parry, to his son Will; "The Subtle Knife," by Phillip Pullman |

There is a naming policy outlined in the contract you sign every time you load the game, if you were stupid enough not to follow it, then you deserve to have to reroll. If you made some kind of idiotic attempt to confuse people with IIllIIllII as a character name, then you deserve to have to reroll as well. |

LOL! So if they don't have any rules setup when you first create your character THEN they make these rules, they should delete someone's account after they paid MONEY FOR IT?! WOW!
FANBOY ALERT! |

What rules? The ones they created when they think that everyone with crazy names are HACKZOREZ?
Seriously, they can make up anything just to permanently ban people to make more space on their ONE server... |

Anyone with a brain in their head knows they are bound by the terms they agree to when they use a software product. Ignorance of the licensing terms does not absolve you from responsibility -- or any punishment due to your inability to know what you agreed to, for that matter. EDIT: typo. |

Please, please for the love of god refrain from posting until you get some proper education on the subject matter. The contract you sign right when you join the game explains the rules for naming the character. It's been there since beta. If you're too stupid to read a contract before you sign it, then that's your fault. |

So they have no clue how to code their shitty game so they start banning people instead of allowing them to change their names.. wtf are you people smoking? I logged in for the first time in ...roughly 9 months just to comment on this very sad post. Here's a thought: A company has 12 employees, two of the employees decide to right "**** You" on their name tags that publicly represent the company. Should the company A) give the empolyees new nametags telling them the previous ones were inappropriate OR B) fire the employees and leave room for new ones in their company? Ya, I thought B was right too. That's just how it is for Darkfall, or any other MMORPG game. It's not just the product that represents the game, but also the community that plays it and makes up the population. If the community is full of asshats, it'll get a bad reputation and a bad point of view. However, when a company takes a stand and removes the asshats, then the potential customers see this as a better community to join.
Also, this tells how their customer service works. Some companies do nothing against bad names, horrible players (those that hack, cheat, and/or total dicks), or help the players that need it. With this kind of responce just against bad names, I can't help but think that their in-game support is atleast 2x better than most MMOs (which have a 72hr wait time for GMs/CSRs). "When I wake up in the morning, will the world be the same as I left it when I slept, or will it have kept on spinning?" |

Big difference with people who BUY THE GAME and people who WORK FOR THE COMPANY...
This is how their customer service works...? Perm banning people because they don't know how to code their game... I would rather have a competent customer support that would take 72 hours than one that bans people for no reason...
You do know that they are banning people just to be able to sell more accounts because it frees up space right? Get it?

Don't worry, prow can move on to other games soon enough. However, while is conspiracy theory probably isn't true, the meat of this thread is. And that's not whether names like Illlililil or whatever are right, or whether or not they're all hackers, etc. It's that Aventurine is being a bunch of dumbasses for perma-banning such names (or politely telling the user to delete their character) instead of giving warnings or using another more standard form of punishment, just in case there's an innocent thrown somewhere in there who is not a hacker. Inquisition: "Kill them all, let God purge the innocent from the flames". Darkfall: "Ban them all...laugh because they can't come back." Surprisingly, prow is also right about the flaws of Siphaed's example. When you buy a product, it's different than being an employee of a company. Darkfall already has a community image of a bunch of nerdy asshats running around killing each other, and nothing will change that. |
