...and for the life of me, I can not figure out why. I've been playing these games since playing MUD style games back before I even owned Windows 3.1 the best games I've played were UO, AC and DAOC ..... now, I'm stuck bouncing around from let down to let down, and struggling to find something fun while games of interest get pushed back months or have release dates a year or more from now. I can't figure out if its the games, or if its just me, completely grown out of it. I love video games, but only when they are multiplayer. I do my FPS games, they are fun for a few rounds, then boring. So I banked on loving DarkFall, and our relationship is very bad (and regardless what anyone says, most of the people are also signed up for MO hoping its better). I do not wanna skill up to 60 Herb Gathering to never get a steedgrass.... eh, thats the least of the problems I have with the game. I love the open pvp, and all that goodness, though I don't feel I have a reason to go out and kill other then to make someone's night suck (which is always fun) ... whats the point, I get their goblin gear? I don't know whats going on with MMOs, but since the awful game called WoW came along, everything seemed to just suck, and I guess my patience with new games is not wanting to do the whole 6 month or more grind to get a max level just to find out their pvp is awful. Will someone please release something that is interesting for more then a week, thanks in advance! Sorry, I'm just ranting ;) |

Everything out right now is shit. That's the bottom line and it doesn't look like it will get better any time soon. Specially if you only care about PvP. Most of the MMO's on the horizon is PvE based with PvP as a side thought so if you are only interested in a good PvP game then it will be slim pickings unfortunally.
No i don't think you have grown tired of the genre. You have grown tired of piss poor executed games with little to no content. This is how most of us feel right now. I'm not playing any MMO currently not because I'm tired of them but because of the lack of quality out there.
After WoW showed their numbers, everybody and their grandmother wanted to get in on the MMO action to earn some serious money. A lot of which shouldn't even be in the MMO business in the first place. Yes WoW indirectly caused a big downfall in the industry. Now we get quantity over quality. |

glad its not just me out there
you know, i'm really excited about mortal online
but if you go read the forums there, everyone is trying to care bear the game out to no end, adding tracking for murderers n shit. lol as much as its the companies faults for poor games, i think the playerbase due to the mmo boom is also adding their poor minded ideas o_O |

Why do all these good sandbox games have to be FPS? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

I'm in the same boat. Games i played for long period of time with the exception of WOW, are sandbox, Asheron's Call (2-3 years) and Anarchy Online (2 years). It seems devs today dont want to take any risk and only stick WOW clone. I'm so tired of the go kill 10 wolves kind of games. When are we going to see a new deep and original new MMO's that's not a WOW wannabe ? |

You might be burnt out. Try do something else, leisure and off hours need not be tied to MMOs. Blaming everything on WoW makes no sense tho. Remember the XT days when we play might and magic using floppies and move along cells on a 100x100 map almost like chess board. It was so primitive and yet we spent sleepless nights. We do not expect something as fluid as EQ2 or WoW, we settle for the 100x100 map and the odd turn based combat. Now we have seemless maps, flying mounts, real time combat, siege and raids, and we feel unhappy. Maybe we expect too much. |

Blaming WoW is RIGHT! Sounds weird, but WoW made MMOs finally available to the masses. And that was the beginning of the end for REAL MMO-Gamers. Every company began to see that MMOs are Games for many players. So what do they do? They make their games easy and boring, so that EVERYONE can play it. But honestly said: For core gamers it isn't fun to just run around and kill everything so easily. It's not challenging. What's challenging about reaching lvl300 in MapleStory? NOTHING! It's just boring! Core gamers were waiting for DarkFall. Because it had potential for them. Not such an easy crap. But the devs did everything wrong so....actually there are no new "Core"-Games. Get back to UO, DAoC or EQ. (or whatever) All the core gamers are now waiting for Open PvP games without lvls. Because in the actual market PvE seems to be an easy-accessable....I use the word....Themepark. Erm...yes. |

I concur...I just quit LOTRO again but may come back someday in the future after their next expansion is out awhile! I'm just tired of the dumbed-down-easy-mode-gameplay that all new MMOs only offer. You don't have to think anymore, or read quests and it marks on the maps where you have to go and what exactly to kill. Crafting which I loved in the past has gotten very stale as its not even worthwhile anymore with most MMOs focused on instances with the best gear from them now. We're being funneled away from other players and basically forced to solo constantly with the occasional group quest which is usually kill a few elite enemies and an elite boss. Then everyone breaks and heads their separate ways back to the solo content....gah! No wonder everyone treats each other like shit in open/world/server chat nowadays cause we don't spend anytime together getting to know one another. The other thing that really erks me which I've been prone to doing myself too{I like to help people}, is high level characters coming down and helping out low levels and just destroying content and bosses/named enemies for quests etc. There really should be level caps placed on all this stuff or if you join said players group you get s temp reduction in your level so the content is still challenging. Also take away the ability for anyone outside the group to help once battle has been initiated.
Anyway, I've deleted all the MMOs on my PC yesterday and broke out the 360 I bought last fall which has been collecting dust. I already had a good, small collection of games:
I splurged on eBay yesterday and bought:
Also pre-ordered Sacred II for 360 coming out in May. I've played it on PC a little, but I really enjoy going for the achievements which to me greatly extends the life of console games and adds a little extra challenge & fun. Someday I may return to MMOs, but not until they become more challenging and allow me to use my brain again. On occasion I'll maybe pop in here to see what the latest news floating around is, but I'm sticking to some good ole console gaming for a time. Pretty sure all the above games I listed will keep me busy for a good long while!

I feel excatly the same as the OP. Ever since WoW came around every dev have been trying to steal those 12-year old WoW-players from Blizzard, not realising that WoW is more like a social network for a kid rather than a game. They know there are better games out there, they just wont play them since all their friends play WoW. Also, since WoW, and because of above reasoning, everything is dumbed down to levels that cant be described as anything else than retarded. "Go kill 10 spiders", "Kill boss", "Go gather 8 stones"... its an insult to intelligence. Everyone who takes a step back and thinks about it soon relises its f-ing crap. On the other hand we have the griefers and gankers who want a "free pvp" game where killing someone shouldnt have any consequenses what so ever, they also 12-years old of course, and all they ever wanna do is run around with their classmates and gank noobs and feel uber. Theres no intelligence required there either.
Another reason that most MMOs fail is that we are playing games like COD4, Mass Effect, Dead Space, Crysis, etc, and when we buy a new game we expect GOOD GRAPHICS as well as good gameplay. We know it can be done. It have been done over and over again through out the years, so we know that it can be done in an MMO as well. |

I have been saying this for a long time too. Is it just me? I have played every game ever made, including beta testing the first online game. (Meridian59) I think I have just grown tired of gaming plus when everyone was "new" there was just a different feeling about it. People bonded as they learned together. Everyone was a "noob" haa haa Never cared for PvP but Dark Age came the closest to making that fun imo. Right now playing Eve and offline Drakensang. Man, there's a sleeper game that is awesome. Just stumbled onto Drakensang and I think it's one of the best games I've ever played.

Yeh, i'm only playing casually nowadays. Currently i'm playing AoC, found some nice people to have a laugh with and soon-ish do some PvP and PvE.
I'll never ever ever ever join another Raid guild ever again. Raiding 6-7 days a week, what the f*** was i thinking? I wasn't enjoying myself, just fooling myself with crap like "it's a great feeling of achievement seeing a big boss finally drop" when in fact everyone just wanted to see the OMGEPICLOOTZ FARMSTATUZ. Urgh. eek, random rant ftl!
... waiting for skill-based MMO with no levels, large areas, mix of PvP and PvE, maybe some personal/guild housing and preferrably a different genre from Fantasy. |

hey, like everyone here same problem mine started after guild wars. i'm a PvE kinda guy, who likes a side dish of PvP so thats a good game for me. now you probably think you got choise enough! i tried a lot of different stuff from pristontale ( 2), florensia, kal, cabal, ether saga, perfect world, sword of the new world,... but the go get me this item and kill 20 monsters isn't just that fun anymore. guild wars made PvE great/awsome with the mission based progression in the game and the free explore as an option. you really need other playersfor the missions, you need to work together. my bottom line is. boicot all grinders, make them realise players want more. i rather buy a finished game then download a sucky one ( btw i'm against P2P). |

Op there is nada wrong with good ole fashion burn out with a genra . Untill something better different comes along most mmorpgs will have what use to be called short termers playing them for a while. After all old habbits of getting the new releases die hard. However with that stated, it is interesting how we use to race to get to end game and so many have no end game once gotten there. The journey is the game. While in and of itself that is not bad it does get old. With more games avaiable on consoles now that are stunning it is a nice adventure to try some other modes of game play. What i love about console games is the ablity to load and go . 2 x box games i have really enjoyed recently is Overloard and Blue Dragon. Had a similar moment in lotr once reaching 50 (use to be the old level cap before moria) did not like moria perfer out doors hunting illing. While i have not cancled, a loved one got me a life time membership, i just do not know what to do when i log on so i just log off and go play a console game. Hope yall find a game to enjoy and play for a while |
