Hi all Just joined the AoC trial with high expectations. I always heard this game had great graphics but now Im really disappointed. At max res with 1600*900 and graphics on high (high textures, high quality, grass etc.) the game hardly looks any better than dark age of camelot. Please view attached image and tell me if you got the same graphics. I played for few hours but had to stop because the game world looked kinda stale. Textures were kinda dull up close and rocks really blocky. Is something wrong? |

Wow...that's pretty bad.
Mine looked 10x better than that on High settings. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

Garbage hardware imho. AoC looks amazing on DX10 with my 9800, that screen is absolutely horrible though. Washed out textures, etc.. definitely not the fault of the game, might want to update the old rig champ. PS: Alternatively, if your hardware IS up to date, then something may be wrong with your video adapter, or you have absolutely butchered your CP settings for your card. Theres no reason it should look like that on high settings, something is definitely wrong. |

Why have you posted a screenshot taken as the game is loading it's textures? |

go through some of those.
That is what it should look like on high. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

It's definitely not the game - but rather your machine mate.. this game is by far the most visaully aesthetic MMORPG I've played so far. By far. |

Ya, you have something wrong, the game looks and plays absolutely amazing on my rig. |

It isn't still loading the textures, don't be sily. This is exactly the way the game looks for me, and I have high settings on. I'm just asking if this is the way its meant to look, not very good if you ask me. Insufficient harware is well possible. My graphics card can only do shader model 2.0, its an ati 9700 pro. Do you think that is the reason it doesn't look very nice? CPU is fine, only 2.4 GHz P4 but it runs smoothly. |

I wish I was lucly on DX10 on my 4850, there are all these weird shadows and the frame rate was horrible. But DX9 is smooth as butter. It may be that I was in windows 7 and it was ATI's first windows 7 driver so that could be the problem, that and its still in development.
But DDO's Beta DX 10 client looks amazing, and works fine in windows 7. I think it uses the same engine as LOTRO does but nobobdy ever seems to mention how good its graphics are. THe OP screenshot is all janky the game should look way better than that. |

Who did wrong? The advertiser hired to sell the game or the consumer who put faith in advertising? |

Yep. That ain't right at all. It looks an awful lot like my game in the half second before all the textures load. So it looks like your textures aren't loading correctly. |

Having done a clean install of my system, I decided to download the "trial" so I had a backup of the most recent install on hand (and backed up to an external drive) in case I lose my original DVD's...also prevents downloading gigs of patching. So starting fresh, I installed the game, went into settings, and hit "HIGH" I noticed after doing this, something was not right. It seems the game defaults to the 2.x shader of DX9. This could explain a lot of the visual quality being less than admirable. I use an ATI 4870, Vista x64, 4 gigs of ram...so it is not a system problem ....just the trial client. I also had to set some other features as well. AF and AA, etc. I think this is what happened to the OP...so I would not blame him for trolling...I honestly think it is a legitimate issue. Funcom wanted to play it safe and force people to turn up their settings, thus alleviating the whole "OMG 10 FPS on my Nvidia 7600...this game blows" crap we usually see. OP, just make sure to look at other settings in your display options, and good luck. Cheers |

That is because you are using shader 2.0, try using 3.0, or the new dx10- 4.0. Upgrade your video card, then wait about 2 secs for the textures to load, and THEN come back and tell the world "how much the graphics suck". ----------------------- Played- SWG (pre-cu), AoC, VG, WoW, LoTRO,CoX, EQ2, DAOC, GW, PotBS, Aion, MO,APB, NASA, Fallen Earth, DCUO, Rift Playing- EVE, Black Prophecy, TOR Waiting for- Tera, Jumpgate Evo, WH40K, WWE, WOD, TSW |

My character from YG: http://i322.photobucket.com/albums/nn406/stevecringle/AlexanderHD.jpg Looks the same as in-game. I am not sure how you could say AoC graphics are anything less than amazing compared to the other games we have available to us, well... in this genre. I'de post in-game screenshots as well but don't have access from this PC.

Well I only ever get those textures when they are still loading, usually after just coming out of the inn, after about 5 secs all my textures are normal and the game looks amazing, your screenshots are not a true representation of the game at all, your rig however does look a little low to be running everything on High settings.

(looked stunning tho..and I love the reactive grass and god rays)..will adding a sound card improve my framerates? (despite I only have 2.1 spkrs) |

The textures have not loaded in that shot. Even at low settings, the wood planks would have texture. OP is trolling I think.
AOC has by far the best looking and most efficient graphics engine of any major MMO. |
