There was a long running thread on this a while back and i still stand by what i said in that, i just don't see where player housing would fit in WoW. Blizzard have and are developing more ways to make players independant from larger cities as it is with the introduction of vendor mounts, access to BG's from anywhere, ability to switch specs outside cities and possibly further down the line personal auctions outside AH's. Add to that the ability to set up custom chat channels for inter person/guild communication, access to banks and vaults all over the place and more emphasis on raids, players are being encouraged to spend less and less time tied to one or two locations so player housing would be a backward step. I am all for the introduction of some sort of guild hall, maybe extending the guild vault system and even introducing a sort of mini AH for guilds, but other than that i just don't see where personal housing fits in to WoW. It must be Thursday, i never could get the hang of Thursdays. |

A lot of players enjoy having some small part of the world they can call their own. The best part is, if you don't want to purchase and maintain a house, you don't have to, and it in no way affects the rest of your gameplay. Any fool can criticize, condemn and complain and most fools do. |

I almost think of it as; The community is too large to implement something like this... But then think it's too big not to do it. My gut tells me most of the player base would like that ingame. |

Free to play games like Runes of Magic managed to put in a decent housing model (of course, they earn revenue from it) But I think Blizzard could add it as well just to keep the player base happy, and paying their subs. Of course, so far, they've seen no need since the folks who play WOW seem to be willing to fork over the cash regardless what Blizzard doesn't deliver, so I can see why they don't bother. Once subs drop off is when companies usually try something new to retain them. But WOW customers for the most part are just not that demanding, and are happy to play what Blizzard choses to deliver. There are probably some that would like it, especially those that have used it in other games, there is even an area in SW that has always been rumoured to have been sectioned off for this exact reason but i see no 'need' for it. I think that most would agree that Blizzard have far more pressing things to develop and implement without spending time developing what is essentially a pure time/money sink "nice to have" feature. There is also the practical aspects of implementing something like this as it would by it's very nature need to be instanced. Now as anyone on a busy server knows, it is hard enough at peak times to get into a dungeon as it stands now without adding the pressure of a couple of thousand houses to each server too. I just don't see any advantage to adding this feature to the game as it stands and to be perfectly blunt, if you have the time to stand around admiring your old L60 armor hanging on the walls or sitting in an armchair reading the chronicles of stratholme, then you are probably not getting the most from the game anyway. I am yet to see a convincing argument for implementing this other than "it would be nice"? It must be Thursday, i never could get the hang of Thursdays. |
