Wow, I could just think of this game playing kinda like Tabla Rasa (along the lines of where you play third person and use guns) but have control of a squad of AI controlled characters which can be totally outfitted with wargear/stats/ect.
Space Marines: You could play a special with control of 2 or 3 space marines of various paths (scout, apocathary, space marine, tech marine, librarian, assault marine, ect.) I could also see this easily being a skill point system with a large tree to allow customization of each character. Maybe each player could be the marines with specific abilities (Scout, Apocathary, Space Marine Sergent, Tech Marine, Chaplin, Librarian, Terminator, Assault Marine Sergent, ect.)
Chaos Marines: These would have to allow different chapters to allow each player to customize on what chaos deity they follow (and changing who/what they are and what skill subset they are allowed to take). But other than that, it could follow the space marine idea.
Orks: Same as the space marines but allow larger numbers in the squads. Unique skill set as usual, any other details unique to orks (I don't know a lot about them). More focused on large amounts of ammo and melee skills.
Eldar: Same as above, you basically get the idea that all the other races can follow this idea, just a unique skill set and tactics used while fighting.
This is what would be hard to accomplish. I absolutely hate the idea of Chaos, Orks, Dark Elves, ect. agreeing to make an alliance and attacking (like in WAR) so then you would have to come up with some type of big FFA thing. And the races that basically want to mindlessly wipe all life (Tyranids and Necrons) which are important to the game but don't allow the player freedoms. But this game really isn't about freedom. Its about survival.
This game could be set up like WAR except each tier doesn't need a structured area (linear) but make it like a series of planets (kinda like SWG) that are conquerable which provide unique resources for the race. These planets could easily allow players to move to any planet they want and fight (which a skill system allows players fight without grinding levels). Death of your squad would be permanent. Gear would have to be race specific so gear wouldn't be lootable but maybe random pieces of gear are destroyed on death?
This game would have to center around conflict of players versus players for resources. Unless they made certain races "pve" content, gaining skill points/progressing would totally involve fighting other players. I am sure you all can come up with other crazy ideas but this is what I want to see in a WH40k MMO: All Major Races: Forces of Humanity (Space Marines, Adeptus Sororitas, Imperial Guard, ect.), Forces of Chaos (Both Marines and Deamons), Orks, Eldar, Tyranids, Necrons, and Dark Elves. Focus on PvP Conflict with minor PvE content. Some type of squad control (essential to the WH40k universe). MMOs Played: I can no longer list them all in the 500 character limit. |
