www.xfire.com/games/darkfall/Darkfall/ I was in beta, and although I saw flaws in their game design, I have tried to stay fairly optimistic. If they are in it for the long haul, stuff can be corrected - provided that the people behind have the ability to do so (which I have begun to doubt though). Seeing that they have had a limited launch, I am quite surprised to see the trend that xfire is showing us. A limited launch should make sure, that the world is constantly full, as they can just sell until it fills up again, if they are bleeding customers. Therefore those numbers are very surprising to me, and Im not sure what to make of them. Maybe it will take some more weeks to be sure.

given the relative low number of peopele playing the numbers in x-fire arn't woth much. if 1 of 2 x-fire users quit it'll show a 50% drop in players... |

When the x-fire numbers are u, the fanbois swear it proves the game is fine and dandy. When the x-fire numbers are down, the fanbois swear X-fire means nothing. It's funny, really. |

To fill a server with some 6000 players, they will need around ten times that number (given that it is standard that around 1/10th of the players are online in prime-time). That is 60.000 players. If only 1000 of those have x-fire, then you will have a stable number for polling. I don't think we can totally dismiss x-fire here. A bit early, maybe, but we can't dismiss it. |

First billing deadline is today if I counted correctly (or tomorrow?). That's what those numbers will become amusing to watch. If you wonder why I don't answer your posts, it's most likely because you are on my ignore/block list. I recommend its use to everyone here - it helps you stay sane, avoid trolls, and by not answering to the troll's bait posts, avoid problems. |

the sample size of 453 users is a fraction small, but then so is the population of Darkfall players, so it's likely to be broadly representative.
i don't see those numbers falling though, not "falling" as it would be considered in a statstical test of "falling". subs look pretty steady to me.... most universities and schools in europe start back in march, so it would be strange not to see a slight dip.

But darkfall its not a standard game. It's populated by hardcore players and afk macroers that spent many hours connected. |

X-fire can mainly tell us general trends in an MMO. By itself, X-Fire means very litt.e However, if you have sufficient evidence from other sources, it can bring *some* legitimacy to X-Fire numbers. There is way too many other variables that must be taken into account before any accurate conclusions can be reached. To me, the concerning thing is in comparison to other MMO's, especially other PVP focused MMO's. I would expect a game like Darkfall, to be ranked higher than #99 at this time. If you look at the games ranked above it, many of them surprise me. Also, PVP'ers have a tendency to use things like X-fire or other "hours played" type data gatherers. Just surprising but I do think it is too early to draw any real conclsions. And as someone said, the real tell of the tale will be when the first "billing" date approaches. |

Did you see me quote anyone or reference anyone in particular? No? Maybe because it was a general comment. So do some growing yourself, eh? |

No serious pvper runs xfire....I dont know - I associate the application with solo pve players (WOW, War, LOTRO), a population DF is not intended for...
EDIT: We run ACTool & AutoIT :P
And of course alot of people quit, after the first month. I havent played in a week bc of work and partying but will not unsuscribe the account anytime soon. Hope i will have time to get right back on it soon enough. |

Seems odd that anyone would even look to X-fire for reall numbers anyway... it is not like every gamer in the world has it installed, and or running all the time. You would really need to know the % of DF (or anygame) players that have it installed, and go down the odds that way.
I game with alot of peeps in may things, and in WoW, for instance, I am the only one in the alt guild that has X-fire, let alone that has it on when I play.
Same with EvE, only a hand full of players in the alliance have X-fire, and most that do, do not run it when in game for some reason. Another issue is stability and anti-cheet software, some games that are X-fire ready, some times jack up bad when X-fire is on. This was true with armedA untill recentlly.
But some peeps systems get nutz with X-fire messing with DX overlays...
So, as a good gage to what is going on in any give game, I doubt it, unless you got all players to install it and run it.
Is X-fire a good market tool to see users, well only if you look at it as a nich groop, like, XX users of X-fire play CoD4, which is XX% of CoD4 total sales, bla bla bla...

What exactly are you so confused about?
I have played with and against the people DF is made for (large pvp clans) over various games. Goons, Murder herd, blood, Hyperion, Kill cult, Sun - and other clans like them make up 90% of the pop. Them nor I would run or care about xfire (very different mentality), and only care about smashing your skull in.
Of course thats just personal opinion....you could say im wrong but thats your wright to say it, and I will defend your right to speak up.......to the death! |
