As much as this forum looks very intresting and what not i cant sit and read all 12 pages. So ill just post my thoughts from reading the 1st 2. Well i am a very big story kind of guy. So i agree. Seems like Players focus on Max DPS then anything any more. Hell 95% of all players just spam past the storys for quests and raids. I myself read all of em. Ok, Now i have to poke fun at the "star wars CG" on Cartoon network. Seemed half ass to me. I been a star wars fan since 5 when my grandfather sat down and watched it with me. Keep in mind iam young so that was 15 years ago. Befor 1,2,3 came out. Now my uncles kid(10) is watching the CG one on cartoon network. He thinks its the greatest. I think it was a low blow at star wars to make a few extra dollars, He truly thinks that the new star was is cooler becase of the flashy lights. I sat him down on the 1st 3 and he was bord within 30mins, asking when will there be a lightsaber fight. arrg, oh well mabey its a generation thing. I know this is not what this forum was for but it seemed an ok place to post this. What can i say i can be a bit old school. CENTER] |

However, to this paticular subject... it does bother me... why? Not every person in the Star Wars Universe could be or was a Jedi. Yet in an MMO.. everyone should be able to be a jedi. I have a personal feeling on how that should be handled but I will spare you the huge wall of text. (the type of thing you are seeing is also people who think they would "pass that test" and be able to be a Jedi yet it would somehow exclude a lot of people... that's the motivation.) Based on what we saw in the work from Lucas... it would be more like you bought the winning power ball ticket (as opposed to some random IQ test or holo grind).

This is one of those things that cannot be helped. IF, like myself, you have been a fan for 30+ years then I am sure you have had your experiences in pnp role playing games as well. Think of the Paladin as originally envisioned in the AD&D 2nd edition rulesets. Then think of how many people roll up paladins in any number of mmo games then throw away all of the core principles that provide the foundation for the paladin class. Or how about the Barbarian? In every mmorpg that has come out they have had these iconic classes that are far deeper than a set of abilities yet that is all that they become. Look at SWG. During the earliest days of the game I remember sitting and chatting in the cantina as I was getting ready to log for the night when someone would come in and be totally out of sorts. Come to find it was because they accidentally killed a Jawa and were sure that they would have to delete and start over because they would have no way of unlocking a jedi slot. When SOE got tired of people being, supposedly, oh so close to unlocking but not they went and catered to the lowest common denominator and the game became little more than who can grind out as many profs as fast as possible to unlock jedi. Then, instead of playing the game, they started their little fight clubs to max out their jedi with 0 risk. But this is also one of hte strengths of the MMO. You don't have to play with them. Don't have to guild with them, party with them or even recognize their existence. If swg is any example then I would wager more than half the people that roll up a jedi should be forced into the sith category lol. At least I hope that there will be mechanisms in the game to try and steer people towards playing their characters with a certain mentality. Of course this would be met with a good deal of whining and the like from those that want to be all powerful uber good jedi lol. I think the game will definitely be interesting and am looking forward to playing it. Hopefully it will be out sometime relatively soon rather than waiting for 2012 or some such nonsense lol. |

Is it just me, or anyone else getting the feeling there are ONLY 2 classes in the game.. 1) glow stick user .aka Jedi, and 2) glow stick killer .aka Bounty Hunter.. I can see it now.. The forums will be over run with post by Jedi's that get killed to often and too fast and wine they aren't uber enough.. "Darth Vader never gets PWN'ed 10 times a day" OR.. we'll get over run with the post by Bounty Hunters demanding they should be able to get contracts on ANY player in the game.. I guess we'll just wait and see.. I already sense they PvPer's of the game are focusing on BH's so they can gank at will... OR so they think they can.. |

The better lesson to take from that situation was "Never underestimate people's ability to whine when they lose". Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic |

Well I think casual Star Wars fans and mmorpg fans will be worried about the geeks. I know some of the hardcore mmorpgs who mostly pvp and havent picked up a SW book are worried that people will be standing around town roleplaying. I am in the middle. I love Star Wars, love mmorpgs, but I'm not the hardcore mmo guy on vent everyday and I don't dress up and go to Star Wars conventions. I have read a couple SW books and I am currently reading more and I raid/pvp and use vent a couple times a week. |

No doubt Abe, Your wittle man-child arse has been whining since we started receiving information pertaining to TOR. I understand your sex life revolves around those mangina ents, but you still have your pure sandbox in Second Life to get ya some "action". Show some spine, and quite whining already. Listening to your mini-adult arse call out others is the epitome of pot/kettle. Also, while you are at it, you can take your arse to a forum dedicated to sandbox gaming as well. All you are doing here is attempting to stir chit, since you didnt get SWG2. It will be nice when your maturity level actually matches your age. That way you can realize something isnt intened for you, or that you wont enjoy it. So rather than howling at the moon, you can spare everyone else, and just go find something that does tickle your fancy to talk about. Until such time I suppose we can point, and laugh at a man-child that wont quit whining about getting their way. This is read "You need to STFU already, as we see your nerdrage for what it is."
Asking Devs to make AAA sandbox titles is like trying to get fine dining on a McDonalds dollar menu budget. |

Damn. Forum pawnage for the win. Something is definetly wrong with a guy who keeps his old jedi character as an avatar 3 1/2 years later and then claims he only had it a short while. MMOs played:SWG,NGE,Warhammer, World of Warcraft, Star Trek Online,Eve, Star Wars the Old Republic. |

They are speaking nothing but truth, I have said the same thing to Abe about his "my way or the highway" attitude. Yes it is wrong for those of you raging nerdroids to continue to fail to see this game is not for you. Just because it has Star Wars as the main theme does not mean it has to appeal to your intrest. At the same time it means you should move on and stop 'crying' about it. So let me ask this, is it so wrong for there to be a Star Wars game for us, does it have to always be up to you jackasses to decide if its good? Nope, move along sir. |

Yet it is mature to kick your feet over a game for over 3 yrs? THEN...I repeat THEN when you find out that the game you missed, the one you put your hopes into being made by another company was naught but a stupid fracking idea...what does one do? Well this one(Abe), has taken it upon himself to troll this forum. Sad cause his wittle nerd world is gone. Which if I am not mistaken is your story as well numnutz. So before you talk some chit, about those of us saying his sandbox talk doesnt belong here, why dont you kindly remove your head from your arse, and realize this isnt a sandbox game. Thus the BS isnt needed. This forum is about SW:TOR...not SWG2 As I have said before, those forums are that way ----> And any peckerhead that doesnt care to play nice here is fair game AFAIAC. Say I am not mature...that is fine. I say I am sick to death of hearing the same things repeated ad naeseum....and I am not the only one. SWG PRECioUs is gone, and that beotch of a girlfriend isnt coming back. Either get over it or not...doesnt matter. What does matter is everytime a sick frack mentions her here, they need to be reminded what a skank they had, and GTFO while they are at it. To which I say if you are on wavelengths with Abe, then you need to go as well. MMORPG.com needs to put a stop to the pricks who wont shut up about sandboxes....especially in forums of games not predicated on it. You guys are like certain religious nutz that are always knocking at the door. And until you quit "knocking", then expect to have the "door" slammed in your face. Asking Devs to make AAA sandbox titles is like trying to get fine dining on a McDonalds dollar menu budget. |

I'd like to add that we ARE people who want good games. That's why I want this game to be more like KOTOR and less like SWG. Bioware should make the type of game that THEY do best, and SWG is NOT what they do best. (Thank God for that). KOTOR was NOT a game about grinding Bols and hanging around all day in the cantina. It was a story based game with many choices and outcomes that had an actual purpose and they are trying to be different by bringing that type of game into the MMORPG genre. Personally I think that's more daring and inovative than recycling a game that has already failed. MMOs played:SWG,NGE,Warhammer, World of Warcraft, Star Trek Online,Eve, Star Wars the Old Republic. |

Yeah, I know it's blasphemy and heretics to dare to say that but what the hell? If we substituted religion for SWG observers would think this was a discussion ripped straight from the dark ages. MMOs played:SWG,NGE,Warhammer, World of Warcraft, Star Trek Online,Eve, Star Wars the Old Republic. |

Yeah there are similiar nutjobs who think of Star Trek like it's the gospel to life. Stop by any discussion on the next movie and you will see what I mean. I've called them wackos as well. I'm very consistent that way ;) William Shatner said "Get a life will you people? For crying out loud, it's just a T.V show" For these SWG nuts I say "Get a life will you people? For crying out loud, it's just a game" MMOs played:SWG,NGE,Warhammer, World of Warcraft, Star Trek Online,Eve, Star Wars the Old Republic. |
