I think Dark Age of Camelot had the best. The scout was phenomenal for PvP and the Hunter rocked PvE... I think in most regards, these classes set the standards of all the other classes to come along. Ranger in EQ really was a hybrid class, not an exclusive Archer class. If you're reading this, you probably need to get some sun. |

to me that would be like playing a starwars mmo and you couldnt be a jedi, sith, smuggler or bounty hunter. to me thats one of things that made the story great . just like wizard, buglar or ranger of lotr. and to be honest i cant remember "lore master" ever being referenced in the story but its been a few years since ive read the series, though |

Vanguard. For me out of several games I have played, it offered the best feeling or captured that feeling best. |

I think the old system of archery in daoc was best, but once they changed it, didn't like it. The ranger in EQ was fun once AA were put in and you could actually be an archer. Until then, they were just a hybrid melee (which was still fun, hehe).

So from your answers I would say GW Ranger would fit you the most. If you want quick and smooth archery, you wouldn't like either the LotRO Hunter or DAoC's archer classes. In both of these games, you have to spend time building up your shots. In LotRO it's a focus-based system where the more focus you have the more skills you have open to you and the more damage you do. It takes some time to build up your attacks. This is also the system the VG Ranger uses. In the case of DAoC, you have a more tactical bow user where you have to set up your shots like a sniper.
If you like RvR, you might enjoy playing the Shadow Warrior in WAR. The SW is nice because you can switch stances on him depending on what situation you find yourself in. The SW doesn't require ammo and has no pet. The Squig Herder and Engineer are also ranged classes but have traded dps for utility. Back in EvE. Started with BatMUD. Main MMOs have been EvE and DAoC. |

The most fun I ever had playing an archer/ ranged char was way back in Asheron's Call, just playing the stock tank archer.Like all MMOs the devs tinkered with it to the point they kind of broke it, and the game got old ( even when it was new, trhe graphics were kind of terrible compared to EQ). But when it was fun, it was great. Nothing since has really been as much fun. |
