I rarely post to most of the forums on this site and I think I have started like 3 threads cause well there are already so many to read why start more?

today I read about 20 forums (its a day off and I have allergies so I dont want to do much of anything other then veg).   I read forums for old games like eq2 and EVE and I read forums for new games like Darkfall and then I read some more forums for slightly older releases like AOC and WAr (been out for a few months and not matured yet).  I read so many forums it all started to blurr together as I lost count BUT... 

 This is what I found in all forums regardless of game type or anything

Every game is compared to WoW and is considered a failure if it doesn't have the same amount of subs ... (therefore everygame is a failure)

Every game is buggy and laggy and sucks

Every game has a dev team that lied

Every game has "shills"

Okay I could go on but it got a bit monotonous reading threads that seemed identical only with different names.   I then saw some people who were ragging on one game do the reverse on another and be the "shill" or "fanboi".    

I have sat here reading for about 2 hours.

Anyhow this is my conclusion.  

According to the forums at MMORPG.COM if i were to take anything to heart about how bad or good a game is then there is absolutely not one single game according to the state of each forum that you should play.   

So I conclude that the forums and their general state of OMG this game sucks for like 100% of games on the forums list in fact means absolutely nothing and that about the only thing you can get that is useful is information from sticky's at the top if you want to try a game or can't get it to load.   The rest is just background noise for the very borred person to either take part in or in the case of what I did today read like the national enquirer.  

I also wonder by the similarity of the posts if there is not like a grand total of 50 people posting on every forum just using different usernames to generate the din.    (I swear I read the same words and posts on every forum only the names have changed..)

*slinks back into lurking mode after making this comment which has probably been made 100 times before about actual meaninfulness of the comments on gaming forums as far as game quality /fun etc goes*

I think most of those people's enjoyment comes out of telling everyone how bad all of the games are. They don't actually play any games other than the forum game.

still, every came is being compared to WoW, if it doesnt have as many subs as WoW or lore or World size or combat or whatever it sucks

Why would you compare every new game to WoW if it sucks...

People that actually like playing MMOrpgS DONT' poSt on foRuMs.

I don't come to these forums to gain any incite on MMOs, or to share my appreciation of games or the people that make them.  It's just a place to shoot the shit really.

There are some good informative sites out there that I do go to, where I learn about great games being developed like lego universe which you will never hear anyone here talking about, because it's just not like the others, even though they want something new.

Its pretty simple, every game has people who like it and those who dont'.

Hence the endless debate and discussion, its just something people like to do.

Looking for deep meaning or relevance, study the Bible or something.

Yup I dont see that any of the posts either negative or postive can actualy be taken as relevant criticism or approval.   If a surfer comes by and tries to decide if he should play any of these games though and looks for some insight onto the actual game I dont think he can find it past the write ups written by the people who run the site and even then I wonder how much relevance that bears.     Anyhow that being said I'm off to play a game now after reading the latest released screenies from a couple games in development.  Other then that I can see no use on these forums other then to watch people call each other names lol.

I'm actually pretty curious about warhammer and darkfall (they are both complete flops of course according to this sites forums which probably means its okay..) I also await the release of AION and stargate worlds and now know in advance they will be complete flops according to the forums from this site and can probably write all the posts :D

The thing I learn from this site is you have a bunch of people playing MMOs who don't really like them. WAR is failure and a WoW by most people on this site, and so is BioWares new game before they even release it.

Really I think most people here just don't like MMOs.

I personally dont believe so but you must admit it seems every decent MMO does at least something wrong or is missing something many people believe to be important

The positive people are probably at work so they can't be in game :p

It's always best to play something yourself before listening to the "background noise", I missed out on tabula rasa due to that, a game I greatly enjoyed when I started playing (after it became free)

I was really looking forward to it but I paid attention to the bad reviews when it was the perfect mmo for me,  never again.

Not all the forums is so negative, I prefer the developers forum, where people exchange ideas, it is fun to throw ideas around even if you have not intention of making a game.

 hehe...That brings back the memory of the first time I went to the official WOW forums.  I had been playing the game for like a year before I decided to check them out. Well, I was having a ball in game, and when I went to the forums, I thought, "wow, I didn't realize how much this game sucked." :) Eventually you learn to take everything with a grain of salt.

i totally agree.  also i think its funny that people say all MMOs out suck right now that post on here.  there are millions of people that are playing MMOs right now so they must not suck cause there are lot more people subscribed to games than post on here.  i think a lot of people fail to realize that its a game not a life.  and i see people saying they play MMOs 6-8 hours a day.  that is more than a full-time job so yeah you would get bored with a video game in a month or 2 if all you do with your life is play a game all day. 

This is a place to kill time when work is slow. 

It's also a place with a really great list that shows information on alot of MMOs out right now.

It's also a pretty good place to get mostly unbiased news on upcoming/current MMOs.

That's why I come here.  

Why I post here... well that's for my own sheer amusement.

As far as the "shills" go, if you were to read all of the posts you would not only find that every game out sucks right now, but every game is also the best game and the one you should play. 

There is only one way to find out if you're going to like an MMO.

I'm with CactusmanX. I'm developing a MMO Server/Client single handedly and the Developers Corner has been a great place to meet other ambitious Indies like myself.  The General Discussion Boards is a highly active forum. Regardless of the massive amount of whine, one can extract really neat ideas every now and then. At one time, I drew the same conclusion, but, then I realized this place is one of funnest MMORPGs on the net.

What an odd comment.  People have had wars over the words in the bible.  In fact the bible fanbois over the years has murdered hundreds of people.  And the bible trolls really get into it! none of this forums trolling crap, they go directly to the high explosives!

Everything that people can have an opinion on will have fans and haters. The internet gives people a way to argue that isn't as long term as lynch mobs and nail bombs but as both sides never die they just keep nerd raging on.

on actually taking a look around there isn't nearly as much whine as expected,  though I do tend to just ignore whine threads (since my first mmo forum was wow...)
