Let me start off by saying I love Age of Conan and I enjoy reading about the experiences of others who’ve tried the game and been pleasantly surprised at how bloody good it is.

BUT…

There are still legions of people out there who repeatedly slam this game based on out-of-date information and petty grudges against the developers.

Now I’m willing to bet there’s a whole mass of people out there who’d like to give this game a go, but they’re too scared they’ll be wasting their cash because of the mixed of reviews.

SO…

Funcom, give these people a free trial!!!

Look at WAR’s XFire stats – thru the roof improvements in time played coinciding with a free trial! If AoC did this, players retained would likely double the number of subs overnight - yes, I think the game is THAT GOOD!

My realm has a really healthy population but a game can only benefit from more players. And it might finally condemn the majority of the biased, hate-fuelled reviews to the trash. The nay-sayers are really stifling this game’s growth but actions speak a hell of a lot louder than words and if people could try AoC, I think it would help significantly.

I agree (as most do) but i think they should wait until after DX10 hits live and the itemization changes are implmented. Then, they'll have addressed the conserns of most of the people that left the game.

So, trails and free time to accounts over 90 days inactive would be well done after 1.05.

First off, I've read a few of your posts, but you are just as bad for the game as the trolls.  AOC has a bad reputation because of all the pre-launch hype/lies.   And your posts have been nothing but the same.   Very rarely do you have trolls starting threads on these forums, however, you do have a lot of trolls replying to your obvious hype posts.  Let reasonable players comment about gameplay and  stop with your crazy posts, and these forums would be much more useful for helping AOC grow.  If you want proof.. go to the VN AOC forums.. there are no liars/hypers... and conversely, there aren't nearly as many trolls.  Same with WOW, LOTRO and EVE forums here..... no hypers and few trolls.  This forum is pretty much garbage (along with Darkfall) because the trolls feel the need to respond to every lie that gets posted by the hypers.

As far as 'returning players free time'.  I highly doubt it.  The servers have been merged and the 4 US servers are very full.  If they suddenly allowed 500,000+  ex-players to all play again for 2 weeks, it would crush the servers and probably P/O a lot of current subscribers.   There are also a lot of trolls with lvl 80 characters which they won't allow on the new servers.. again, they could really ruin the gameplay of current players all the while having no intention of actually subscribing.

I just want to try the game and see if my comp will play it ok. Heard too much about people buying it and not being able to play it, right after I bought 2 copies. I was worried and returned them unopened.

What are your specs, and people will be able to tell you.

My bro-in-law is playing the game w/ no problems on a hyperthreaded P4 3.0, 3 gigs, and a 7800. Additionally, he's on a cell phone IP b/c cable/DSL isn't avail where he lives. His settings are pretty low, but not the lowest and he's had zero problems thus far.

i agree. i left game at around last August or September. I was on Thog Server in a raiding/siege guild named IronClads. Had a level 80 Dual Wield Spec Barbarian. Had 3-4 tier 1 raiding gear on me. But i left due to the many bugs, memory leaks, lack of endgame content, pvp siege bugs. Don't get me wrong i enjoyed the game. I have to say AoC was probably one of my favorite MMO's out there. But now i have heard and read through many forums that game has come a long way since launch. With the big patch being 1.4 adding a lot of content, including level 80 content.  In the words of others, AoC is now "what it was suppose to be at launch." But it has lost many players and its not even a yr yet since it went live.

Now the only thing that is missing are these free trials and or some type of campaign to get players who quit the game, back to be able to try the new high level content.  I have not resubscribed yet but i do want to.  I guess im holding off to see  if there wil be these free tirals.  An interview with Craig Morrison on ign.com this question rised up and Craig answers it.....

Now i quit WoW many times. And i just resubbed for it a few days ago. Reason? Reason is because i recieved an email from them that they  were giving me 10Days Free to try out Wrath of the Lich King expansion. So i am able to experience the new "world" with my level 70 character.  Didn't even have to buy the game, i just downloaded it directly from them and straight to playing right after.

I hope Funcom does something like this soon. So i can try out the new content with my 80 Character. Some say these free trials or campaigns might come after patch 1.5 is released. But that may just be a rumor, i dont know. If its true i hope Funcom does a free trial like WoW did soon. Because i really want to come back and play again, lol

I think FC will release a Free trial after patch 1.05 (itemization,revamped-gemcutting-TarantiaCommons etc)

I think that pretty much all concerns will be fixed with this patch, ( concerns people had at launch and quit because of them )

On topic free trials are needed but it is best if they make them after 1.5 because they can get more potential subscribers than now.

A free 14 day  trial is coming in May according to my source.

i like the idea of a veterans come back because i would like to try the game out again, i just dont feel like i should have to spend the money to do so lol

Yeah. If we're lucky, they'll keep the Buddy Key trial system where you can pay $2.99 to Download the 15G+ (with patches) client, and get 3 "free" days in return.

i like the idea of a veterans come back because i would like to try the game out again, i just dont feel like i should have to spend the money to do so lol

well, i think the main reason Funcom will even introduce the free trial is to reconciliate with people who actually tried the game at launch and quit because of the launch failure disaster.

so yeah, i think the vets should be the priority...
