I would choose Vangaurd. It's a really well developed game with tons of content. |

Here are my opinions: VG is the best PvE out today. The biggest problem with it is there are few people in the low level areas. This is currently my second MMO and I play it when I'm taking a break from WAR. EQ2 is a fun game, but didn't hold my attention for very long. It has a PvP server, but when I was playing, I got ganked a lot which wasn't fun. WAR is a PvP game with some PvE thrown in to give you something to do while you're waiting to get into another scenario or find some ORvR. I'm not sure if an endgame is really relevant in a PvP game. I'm currently playing WAR and enjoy the PvP. All three games have free trials, so it won't cost you anything to try them out. That is the only way to find out if a game is right for you. Ion |

What are you looking for? Some framework in which to expound on either game would be helpful.
I've played all 3. EQ2 and Vanguard are pretty similar, fans of each might disagree. And sure there are mechanics unique to each, but they are both a PvE grind. EQ2 is considerable older, therefore is much more polished and has more content. Vanguard being newer has better graphics, the game ran poorly when I left it. which was almost a year ago. Maybe that's fixed now...if you like pretty graphics Vanguard is gorgeous. Endgame....EQ2's is a long way off @ lvl 80, but has plenty of well done raiding. Check out Befallen server for good raid guilds. Vanguard has less endgame content....its younger...what do you expect.
Crafting both have solid systems EQ II's is straight forward, but crafted gear is Good, better than most of the gear in the game, you have to work hard, or Raid to get better. Vanguard Crafting is more robust, and varried, and you can craft cooler stuff like housing and boats..as well as gear. The crafting community is good. Personally, in retrospect, I had more fun playing EQ2. However, that's largely influenced by the friends I made while playing EQ2.

Everquest 2 has more than 4x more content than Vanguard. Everquest 2 has a much deeper character development than Vanguard. Everquest 2 has more acttive community in PVE and PVP. Everquest 2 has better sound production, shadows system, animations and character models. Everquest 2 is more polished and deep. Everquest 2 endgame has 10 x more content. Everquest 2 has better housing system and more developed crafting. Vanguard Open World is amazing. Vanguard has diplomacy but it need improvement. Vanguard flora and sky look better Both games have interesting classes. Try both if you can.
Everquest 2 is by far a deeper and better MMORPG in all aspects, but you never know wich one will really seduce you, so go grab the trials.

My crafting skill isn't high enough yet to make a boat, but I understand some people use them to fish. Also, because the land masses are separated by water, could they be used to sail between continents? |

Yes you can own your own boat....If memory servers there are 3 sizes, and continental styles for each size. Even the smallest boat can carry a group of 6 easily. The biggest limitation for each size boat is the depth of water it can travel in....bigger the boat the deeper the water it can go in....smaller the shallower.
I used my boat to travel up and down the river or around the coast all the time.....in mmo mechanic speak, its a mount, for water.

as for the purpose...they are basically just there for RP and for fun. One could argue they serve a purpose for travel but there are few islands that i would recommend a boat for and the current transport system is not all that expensive. MMO wish list: -Changeable worlds |

Vanguards housing blows EQ2's out of the water....makes me question the sincerity of the poster of that list.

Crafting= Vanguard. Available players to interact with= EQ2 Class/job diversity= Tie PvP= EQ2 (most Vanguard folks aren't really into that) Community age/maturity= Vanguard Graphics= Personal choice (I like Vanguard) Questing (and ability to finish group ones)= EQ2 Combat= Tie Scale and area of game environment (exploration factor)= Vanguard Factional based areas (races)= Vanguard Economy= Edge to EQ2 because of more players Less comp specs to run= EQ2
I am currently not playing either of them. |

Yes you build a house in a predetermined location, but the decoration system and the way the system works can and need to improve. You will realize a lot of VG players dont even think about create your house, while in EQ2, most people expend a lot of "gold" decorating your house. The Idea of housing in Vanguard is cool, but the implementation could be better, just enter both games and ask the community how much time they expending in their houses. ... |

I played all three. You need to say what you want out of a game. Vanguard is more fun than EQ2 to me for PvE and it is not instanced. EQ2 is very instanced and I honestly ran out of fun pretty fast. Vanguard I played to max level, mostly soloing, and I had a great time. I had a simple guild that helped through harder stuff but I enjoyed I had fun both on my own and in groups. The classes are just really well done. Not saying EQ2 isn't well done, because it is, but Vanguard is just more interesting overall. Chop down a tree and watch it actually fall or climb any mountain you see and look at the view or get a boat, sail off into the distance and start fishing ... and you'll understand why this game might not be 'technically' better than EQ2, but its just more interesting and fun. WAR... it is a completely different beast. It's very casual, shallow short of MMO. Very fun too, but not a lot of 'things' to do. |

Just read what I said before question my sincerity, you were rude and personal without a reason. If you disagree, use rational arguments against my list. ... I play both games from their release, as I said OP, try Both, but no one can deny some details like the amount of content, animations, character development ETC. A lot of VG features sound good on paper but the game still need improvement asap, another sad fact about VG is, you will never get the amount of development you get with Warhammer, Everquest 2 and even AOC. Try both, both games are good, in a rational analisys EQ2 is better, but as I said, you never know wich one will seduce you. Keep in mind, you will only realize a bit of truth about EQ2 and VG after level 16-20.

Can you back up your claims with facts? I am not trying to attack you, I am just seriously doubting your claims but I know less about EQ2 than I do Vanguard. For instance, 4x content? All the adventuring quests, diplomacy, and crafting in VG is 25% of what EQ2 offer? I find that hard to believe. Maybe it is true, I don't know, I just want some links before I take most of your thoughts are facts. |

Sure cereo, keep in mind, I enjoy both games and for me Vanguard has only 2 major issues, the lack of development and the lack of character depth (it seems they will improve it with time, but the devs are sometimes too amateurish to take care of a game like VG), but Im not bashing VG. List of Everquest 2 Dungeons. http://eq2.wikia.com/wiki/Dungeon_Timeline incomplete list, does not has the TSO new content.
http://eq2.wikia.com/wiki/Raid_Timeline
Sure, it is hard to grasp the content by just readind those lists, but the amount of content in Everquest 2 is huge even comparing to WoW or older games. As I said, everyone should try both games, but for everyone that want a deeper and bigger game to expend more time, EQ2 has much more to offer, but of course the rest is just a matter of taste.
