I hate these forums..

Ive been playing games since the commodore 64 days and no matter what game came out you spent your money, played the game and found one way or another to love it. Need less to say some aspects of the game sucked but you adapted. Now we frequent these love hate game forums on a daily basis, looking at threads about games we would have bought  anyways soley based on a box at the store and  "said cool Im gonna buy it." Then to further that we still buy the game based off what we read play it, like it come back and read some more to convince ourselves that we SHOULD like it.......then slowly start logging on less and less......Im probably weak minded or just worn out. Maybe for my next MMO or game Ill just go to the store like the old days, buy the game and play it acting like these forums or reviews were never created....

Im just ranting on......

Sincerly,

A frustrated gamer......................

Forums are never a contributing factor if i will buy a game or not. Take the critizism of ST:Online about lack of ship interior and star ship crew members. To me the game sounds great and no amount of nerd rage would affect me trying out. Same goes for SW:TOR. People are whining about micro transaction and too many jedis. I honestly couldn't care less i will still be trying it out.

The only critisms i would take seriously would be complaints about stability issues or gamebreaking bugs. Not taste

Yah I know what you mean hehe, I especially try to ignore the forums if I like a game because you will always find rants about things that you might not even have thought of as problems, but then after reading asif through some strange e-suggestion you start to become annoyed by those game elements :P.

Forums need a test for posting like,

a) Are you a complete douchbag who likes to ruin other peoples day because you hate your own life?

b) Do you rely on MMO's to sustain your own personal worth?

c) Is your magnificent wit and intellect your only strength making you blind to the fact that even though you think you are right, everyone still hates you?

We're sorry, if you've answered yes to any of these questions you are not allowed to post on these forums, have fun in Darkfall. :P

I did that once. I thought, gee, I always go on forums and check out reviews. But what the heck, I'm just going to buy this game. The box looks cool, it's an MMO, I haven't heard of it, I'll try it. It was like paying 49.99 for someone to kick me in the stomach. It was Rising Force Online.

I won't ever do that again. I'll at least check out a few reviews and forum opinions.

MMORPG Character Monuments

...When its time for your character to take a well deserved rest...

UNderstand that most forum posters are radicalized. Either for or against a game. The forums no longer represent the true measure of a game's community. Sadly, they can no longer be counted on as a source for assistance in playing the MMO either.

Many forums (Like AoC, Darkfall and others) are PvP

You will never ever ever get an objective impartial review of an MMO on this site. You'll be better off downloading a free-trial / demo.

Oh and ignore the Game List, remember this is a commercial enterprise for mmorpg.com. If you troll or spew hate, they largely don't care it generates traffic for them and if a percentage sign up for an MMO it all works out nicely. I expect the margins isn't fantastic, but hey if it makes money wouldn't you do the same?

Not being cynical, just telling it like it is.

Good postulate for life and society in general too, if you start thinking too much and are always after the "truth" you begin to doubt and troubles begin, it's like Adam and Eva, they were careless and happy but when the Snake opened their eyes with Knowledge they were f*cked.

I was playing SWG when RF Online came out precu luckily so I missed the hype. I saw some of the trailers though and thought, "that looks freakin cool as hell". After it launched I read some posts were people who had purchased it were talking about how lame it was ect ect. I thought maybe they were just bithcing about nothing as usual till I actually checked out the game myself on a free trial and saw what they were talking about. xD Now it costs what it's worth to play, nothing.

LOL!

This is the post of the week.

My take on it though:

If the game isn't free, then i watch reviews thorougly and if i see a trend that a game is junk, i won't buy it. I do think that some people deliver some pretty good reviews and if you have a good sense of filtering the crap post, it will play in your favor in the end and save you a lot of money on junk games that just deserves to die.

HOWEVER... If a game is free, or has a free trial: I'm COMPLETELY against any bashing. Why? Because you have the opportunity of making an opinion by yourself, and at no cost. So just get out of your lazy ass and try it. It will probably take you just as much time to try it then to read about it, and it won't cost more.

Bottom line is: Every games outhere should have a free trial with enough content to display if it's worth buying or not. Then those flammer forum would die naturally once people starts getting curious again for original concept, instead of trying constantly to find their old worn out love, that made them feel confortable a long time ago, in a galaxy far, FAR away from here...

Creativity : The ability to transcend traditional ideas, rules, patterns, relationships, or the like, and to create meaningful new ideas, forms, methods or interpretations; using originality, progressiveness, or imagination.

From my experience on MMO forums usually if a game is not being hyped, then there is a reason. I'm not saying listen to every review out there, I'm just saying take heed and keep it in the back of your mind at least. It’s almost like we all want the same thing, a fun game.

A good example: I hate Gamespot, but their reviews seem spot on for me anyways. If there is a feature in a game that the reviewer thinks absolutely sucks, chances are, I will feel the same way about it when I hit that place in the game. Not because I read a review either. I just happen to notice after I finish a game, then go back and read a review they point out the same annoyances.

I been playing games since the first Atari, I go one better remember the Caleco game computer? lol anyways in todays gaming world some games are made or break by FORUM users. I think TR is a good example. A great game but lack of support made the game go away. Did Forums have ANYTHING to do with that? I think so.

Coleco.>CES...ruled...too bad they mad some crappy business decisions..and the cabbage patch miscalculation didn't help Coleco at all.  I think it's a smart decision for a free trail after 6 months....then one every 6 months. A free trial right after launch is usually worthless until they work a few kinks out of the game. I think it is a show of confidence on behalf of the game developers and a way to give people ,who otherwise would not try the game because of forum doomspeak, a chance to find out for themselves...with little risk. I think it's business smart..but I absolutely do not think it is a consumer right. There are other ways we, as consumers, can educate ourselves about an mmo...to eliminate or reduce risk, before we ultimately decide whether a purchase is warranted. Despite others who will argue...I just don't think we have an entitlement to "free" anything...it is a nice thing to have though.

Forums are a really good way to stop enjoying a game, if you are currently enjoying it. I have found that when you are playing a game that you like, as the OP said, you tend to look right through the things that aren't great. As long as there's nothing there to ruin your experience, you go on having a good time.

Step on the forums, however, and that may change how you see your game. Since happy players to not tend to run to the forums to proclaim their love, you will find a disproportionate number of people who weren't able to look through certain flaws and enjoy the game. All of a sudden, you log back in, and those flaws start tripping you up left and right. Before you know it, you're on the forums bitching more than you are playing. The cycle continues.

Choosing a game based on the forum environment is a recipe for disaster. You just have to decide what you're looking for in a game, and give the ones who have it a go. Come to the forums, and all you get are people who are either die-hard for or against it, and that's no way to make a decision whether or not to play.

I really hope that *insert game name here* will be the first game to ever live up to all of its pre-release promises, maintain a manageable hype level and have a clean release. Just don't expect me to hold my breath.

A simple truth-"What people want and what is good for an mmo is not always the same thing"-mrw0lf

Actually, I like these forums, (you think?) and quite honestly, the two games I'm currently playing, EVE and ROM are both due to the postitives I read about on thes forums, and the negatives did nothing to sway me.

It was actually a game magazine review (CGW) many years ago that made me not try EVE sooner than I did, and it was also that same magazine's positive re-review that once again rekindled my interest.  I came here, read some more about it, and before long was playing and have been at it for almost 2 years now.

Forums are what you make of them I suppose, for me they are mostly entertainment.
