yeah, yeah, i know...its lasers and blasters but this is science fantasy and there are melee weapons used in this genre. I just don't know if there is such a class in this game yet. Anyone know? |

Dunno man but I'm kinda doubtful as Jedi lightsabers are the ultimate melee weapon. O_o o_O |

there are plenty of non lightsaber melee weapons in Star Wars lore such as force pikes so I'm sure there will be other melee options. |

One of the videos featured a Jedi and some type of melee fighter fighting. Think it was the first video, a Kel Dor fighting with some kind of force pike. So maybe you can be that melee Bounty hunter. |

That would be awesome!!! I could do that and my wife could be a dark sith with a focus on dark powers; ranged attacks, status effects and defense for herself. I just hope we can play together and we aren't playing an PRG via the internet.......i actually still don't get the quests and how the game world is set up. It seems like we are all doing our own solo quest lines.....so why make this game an MMO when it really is another KOTOR. I just don't get it.....guess I should make another post. |

My opinion is, you can do whatever. Kinda like in SWG pre-cu. You could play that game pretty much without ever having to talk to a single person, or group for epic adventures when you chose. I think they were shooting for that aspect in TOR, grouping is optional; yet there are lots of things to do as a group, just like there are alone. I think forcing grouping effects game play for some. In EQ2 for instance, it's not always easy finding a good group at lower levels, and the people who help act like you are putting them out, even sometimes guild members, yet around level 30 you need to group. By making grouping an optional dynamic more people are more willing to group because they know they don't have to advance, it’s just for fun. So yes, you will have your personal story arc which you can do alone, or with a friend, as well as other content, some exclusively for groups, some group optional.

In the era of the old republic. Vibro weapons was very common. And they where made of a metal that could resist a lightsaber blade. I dont remember the name of that metal but you can find it on wiki. And for melee skills. I sure hope there will be. Couse im gonna rely on a melee weapon for close quarter combat :) So that beeing said, i dont think there is gonna be a pure melee class except for jedi and sith. However I will find it strange if you dont have the option to wield one in combat with the other classes. It worked well in KOTOR so no reason it wont work well for SWTOR. Hauken Stormchaser |

well, if the Echani are still around, they could be a viable class, group of melee fighters, they are trained in hand to hand combat. one thing though, they are all female fighting society/race/group? warriors.
just brainstorming on what could be out there. |

I am sure the diversity that is the SW world would allow more than a few races be very good melee fighters. the key is do they make plans for that or assume everyone will want to play a race X jedi depends truthfully on how the game and classes are layed out. played:WoW and Eve off and on 5 years |

I would say yes. In the first documentary video there is footage of a Jedi fighting a non-lightsaber melee Kel Dor. He looks like he is holding a giant, blue Q-tip. If you played KOTOR melee was actually more common than ranged so I'd imagine there will be plenty of non-lightsaber melee options. Cortosis weave melee weapons are common in this era to withstand lightsaber blows. However, I doubt there will be a "melee class" so to speak. Most classes will probably have a melee spec option like in the KOTOR games. All your classes are going to be "Classic Star Wars roles" to quote the front page of the TOR website. So most likely no Teras Kasi kung fu master. Will probably be all classes like Jedi, Sith, bounty hunter, Republic commando, smuggler, etc... To paraphrase one ot the devs in an interview, if you saw it in the movies then you will most likely be able to do it in TOR. My only concern is the game becoming melee dominent. I would actually like to see blaster fire in battles once in while. |
