You all know where this is going. If I see another Elf, Orc or fantasy creature in general, I'm going to hurl. I simply can' take it anymore. For the love of all that is holy, someone, somewhere release a decent PVE centric (with consensual PVP or PVP server) SciFi MMO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Earthrise, Fallen Earth, STO, are taking too darn long, I cant take this! I'm ready to download Anarchy Online again or start playing SWG, games many years old just to get away from these fantasy games!! Any other Scifi fans out there? Can we demonstrate that we at least exist????
PS: I play EVE Online already, I would ideally prefer an avatar that isnt a ship.
/end rant
Thanks for listening! Current Games: TERA, D3 |

Isn't stargate online coming out this year? Don't know if it's any good, but I don't think they have any dwarves or elves there. It is preferable not to travel with a dead man. |

I hear your rant, and agree with you! I am on old SWG vet, but lets not even go down that road of why I don't play that bastardized game anymore... I have played Eve, but I have the same gripes about it that you do. An awesome sci-fi MMO is needed desperately. I mean c'mon - how many times does a developer have to re-hash elves and orcs, before they decide that they have gotten it right, and move onto other horizons?
Amen
P.S. Yes, I still like fantasy MMOs, but they are getting old. I don't know how I will like the new Jumpgate since i did not play the old one. |

I've been playing CoV for years, I don't see any elves or orcs. |

Guild Wars has no elves. Neither does Puzzle Pirates, or A Tale in the Desert, or Wizard101, or Pirates of the Burning Sea, or ... Basically, there are advantages to humans being the only playable race. Such as no elves. |

I think I'm just sick of girly elves and stupid orcs.
Why can't I have a manly elf? You know...with a manly culture?
Not sissy elves that live in the magical kingdom...elves that live in the harsh northern mountaints that are vicious.
and orcs that don't scratch their head and their balls every time you say a big word. Why can't orcs be intelligent?
and dwarves that aren't necessarily extremely technologically advanced...
I'm just sick of the same-old, same-old fantasy. I absolutely LOVE Fantasy, but mix it up a bit!
anyway...that's MY rant lol ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

try RFO its got a good deal of PvE action but best of all its PvP RvR means dwarf(with big mechs) elf-like (with summons) and cyborgs(with big guns!).
I love playing accretians just to pound the fantasy type races into the ground XD ACCRETIAN
VS BELLATO
VS CORA
So come join the fight and pound an elf today XD |

Answering Capn23. A good point as well. But I believe there are many fantasy "fanboys" of old, out there in the world, that dictate "this is how [insert race] acts! And that's' how its gonna be!". So I don't see that ever changing... That's why sci-fi is a good idea. A dev can take the story wherever he/she wants, without having to stay true to "canon" or lore.

I am with you, OP. I mean I love fantasy but I would SO like to see something else. I always had this dream however to take the classic fantasy races and place them into some NOT medieval setting, maybe Sci-Fi or Steampunk or what. Or a world of our technological level, just with magic and fanatsy races?
EDIT: I SO agree with Capn23! I like Elves, but I DONT like them sissy-ish! I want some badass warrior Elves! Serious Elves! Like the warrior culture of Tolkien's Beleriand from the Silmarillion, for instance, with guys like Feanor was.

I'm personally on the fence. In one way, I like having a vast amount of different races to choose from (allows the players to feel unique). In another way, I agree that there's way too many elves and orcs in the games these days in that medieval setting.
What I would like to see (which the OP may not agree with) is orcs and elves in a futuristic setting (like Warhammer 40k). Vigil Games is developing "Warhammer 40k Online".... very slowly.... |

Ya'll should research DMT, and Terence Mckenna. I've discovered the success of elves and gnomes is attributed to that. WoW is the prime example... they nailed that 'inner' space we're distant from, yet relate to, cog wheels, strange apparatuses, inventions, language. Its truly a trip when you know about it, so try not to judge until you research. |

Here the truth. It works and people know what to expect.Other than star wars what sci fi mmo has been huge sucess and star wars has support of the one huge ip in world, even when a star wars products sucks it still does well money wise.As much as people say they want something different they don't support the games.
I bought mass effect awhile back and i stop pretty soon after for another game.A month ago restarted Mass effect and i am just loving the game.I realize i would love to play mmo like that and can't find a good game.If players didn't want elves gamemakers would stop making those games. |

You know I read his post several times and all I got out of it was "I have absolutly no clue what the hell I am talking about." |

He's trying to say he read books involving some of the stereo types that have been so heavily incorporated into the "modern" fantasy setting, problem is...lots of us HAVE read similar books, played video games, read comics, etc... Nobody's griping because it doesn't make sense, they're griping because the market is flooded with the same rehashed ideas. |

I'm also hoping for a Rifts mmo. Even tho, at the same time i fear it since i honestly don't see any MMO dev/publisher doing up Rifts with any of the glorious justice it so richly deserves. That would break my heart. |

I agree 100% OP! I really don't like fantasy but am forced to play it in MMOs. Honestly, why does fantasy dominate this genre? Scifi dominates most media, yet were stuck with fantasy for MMOs. Yuck. Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic |

I'm not saying sci-fi is bad, but don't get pissy because us fantasy nerds have one bastion other than books.
sci-fi is great too. There are a lot of sci-fi MMORPGs coming out soon. It will be nice for you sci-fi nerds. To each his own.
NOTE: don't take 'nerd' as an offense. just refering to our interest in each of the genres. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
