yea...my server sea of malice was one of them.  It sux because it was the only server that had a twin sister sea of claws.  Oh i loved my server that mythic gave me.  By the time the trasnfering began though id log in and not a single other player would be on the server, ever.  You would think like maybee one other or something, but none, ziltch...This was like 90% of the time i played too witch was late in the mornings  but still.

Source?

edit: Not that I don't believe you but I'd rather see an official post.

Google is your friend.

Remember, it has to be fun to be a game. Grinding is a bedroom activity, and the point is definitely not to do my wife as fast as possible.

It's been pretty irrelevant for everyone that's still playing.  If anything it's a plus for the people resubbing so they can have their toons on a decent server.

Game is fun, endgame pvp still needs tweaking..Once that's set in a couple more patches the sky is the limit for this game

I stopped playing after I learned of the hacks possible with the game. An mmo should not be hackable. Too much data clientside imho.

fail.

iv never read or seen anything about warhammer not having enough subscribers but removing that many servers would indicate just that.  Although most of the community involved has pvp in-mind witch makes it time consuming for players with queues on low populated servers.  In the latest blog by mythic the open pvp has been improved, witch is a component of warhammer that has to be inplace even if darkfall is the open pvp game right now.  Im sure some of the servers will be reopened as more trial accounts are activated.

Kinda crazy really...

I was on Eltharion, which was the most busy european server at launch. There were sometimes 1 hour+ queues to get on.

The MMO formula is odd. Sell as many copies as possible through hype, have LOTS of servers as you're gonna need them. After a few months the hype dies down and you cut the amount of servers down to a quarter.

I understand why it works that way but I think the whole industry needs a look at and a serious shake up. Things need to change.

It wasn't a industry problem it was just Mythic serverely over estimating how popular there game would be, I laughed my head off when that idiot claimed his game would have 3 million subs by the end of this year.

I think I liked this the most:

http://www.uptowar.com/view/43-servers-shuting-down/15337.html

"Folks,

Over the last few months we've been telling people to transfer off the lower population servers. Over this same amount of time people have been asking/telling/begging us to merge servers. So, now that almost all the people transferred off those servers, we've done just that. And of course, when we do that, some people here say "OMG Fail!"

As I've already said, if WAR was a PvE game, we wouldn't have closed those servers but since WAR is RvR-centric, leaving those servers open with their current population would not be a good idea. While these servers have been low population for quite a while once we told people to transfer off of them their population dropped too low for an RvR-centric game.

Oh, and as an FYI, once again our number of paying subs in NA went up again yesterday as did our PCU (even with backing out the trial accounts). These are undeniable facts, not spin.

Mark"

I like this because... if it was a PvE game they would have kept all the servers open.

Now I don't know how many servers they have left but just think about the 63 that werre shut down.

EA's last report was the game had dropped from a peak of 750,000 subs to 300,000 and that was when they added 1% more layoffs.  (don't get me wrong 300k subs imho is enough for an mmo unless you have wow envy).

The issue is...  If you took 300,000 subs across just the 63 servers they shut down...

You would have basicly (rounded up) and average population of 4,762 players PER server.  That is not counting the servers that remain open (which would drop this per server number even more).  When you are talking about a game that runs 24 hours a day... and concurrent server numbers... you do NOT want a servers total average population to be around 4800 people.

Why say that if it was a PvE game you would have left those servers open.

I would rather see Mark promote the fact that having 300,000 subscribers.. maybe even moving back up to 500,000 would be a nice positive thing.

Than make comments like that.

*edit*

(if you are not following my issue here.. 4800 people TOTAL on average for a server that is open 24 hours.. even in PvE you are going to have grouping issues... at some periods of the day.  Concurrent numbers in the 2500 to 3000+ range are what you would want and would need an average maximum more in the 10,000 to 15,000 number range to achieve)

4800 as average per day... holy cow... even SWG in its old days has that much!

When 77% of all existing servers are closed, calling that no drama is a joke. Yeah 300k isnt bad. But apparently the WAR guys expected 3 millions, haha. The game just gets way too boring after a few weeks, and in the end I could not imagine anything but a drastic change to make this game fun. Which never happens anyway. Usually when stop playing a newly released game I left it on my harddisc to wait how it would develop, but in WARs case it was instant uninstall. Its just way too hollow and simplified to really catch my attention no matter what they do. How often can you conquer the same keep over anbd over. Blast door 1, blast door 2, run up ramp, ad nauseam. What a yawnfest.

This is where I think simple personal preferences come into play, perhaps in a bigger way than the perceived quality of a game.

In contrast to you, I enjoy attacking keeps and battle objectives because of the way the overall game is. WAR is essentially a strategy game within an MMO. It isn't just the attacking of a keep or BO, it's what those activities mean toward capping a zone and advancing your forces against the enemy. Large units moving, communicating, and fighting across multiple pairings in an attempt to defeat an enemy that is also trying to achieve the same goals. Fun stuff.

PvP is the other X factor. To me, PvP is often more fun and interesting than scripted PvE events or activities, because it really is unpredictable. Who I fight with (in terms of numbers, class mix, experience, gearing, skill, communication abilities, leadership, etc) is almost always different. Similarly, the opponent is also almost always different, in those same terms. In my opinion, that's some of the only perpetually new "content" you'll find in most MMOs.

Is WAR perfect? No. Can they do some things better? Sure. But, with some of the changes already made (i.e. zone domination, lock picking), as well as the proposed ones (adding another ramp in keeps, customizable defenses, additional attacker options), along with the Land of the Dead addition, it appears that WAR is heading in the right direction for an RvR game.

Hell hath no fury like an MMORPG player scorned.

I agree with Rohn. Once you understand that the game is RvR-centric and let yourself sink it, it's a great game. The fun factor is high in my opinion. I've played many many MMO's and to be honest, I stopped playing WAR after a couple of months. I resubbed in January and have been having a great time with it. It's seriously fun with all of the activity going on now. I'm killing people in open RvR and if there aren't too many on (which is the case sometimes in the early morning), then I'll either do an easy PQ, some light crafting or go into a scenario for a bit. I think Mythic is doing an outstanding job improving and if you haven't played since release, understand it's not the same. Condensed servers (because Mythic over-anticipated) is a good thing at this point because each one is much more active and booming with oRvR. Oh and for all the folks who think the Scenarios are the main focus of the game... no longer is that true. In fact, it was only true for the first three months or so and since then, they've revamped the oRvR. I can honestly say that this game is getting better and better as the months roll on as they constantly release patches, alterations to improve things that are complained about, and add new content, i.e Live Events, Live Expansion, Etc. Furthermore, I see this game being successful.

For all the haters, because you really have nothing better to do than base your old, tired opinions on a first-released product - try it again. Keep in mind though, it's extremely RvR centered and if you are constantly looking for a game that is all encompassing, you're going to be disappointed. It's an RvR game with other elements and is working for me and roughly 300,000 others and will continue to grow.

P.S I'm pretty picky when it comes to MMOs and my attention span is very short. So my opinion is worth a damn.

I was so happy they merged servers. the new server im on is booming. I never have to wait on SC queue. I dont have to look for ORVR groups. I even have to go thru a queue to get in the server which i actually think is good. they had to many to start with and are just trimming the excess fat now

The server I played on got merged like all the others and honestly I think the game is infinitely better for it.  Finally I can just  jump into RvR or public quests without any real hassle or idleness.  People are playing and the game is as it was intended to be once again.  A recent interview made it sound as if they had the vast amount of servers open for launch and after the initial drop in subscribers they are climbing again.  Good to hear if you ask me.
