Yes!

As if a rag tag group of incompetent developers wasn't enough, today those fine folks at SOE announced the Cash for Gear Virus. Straight from the red named fool's sewer pipes of hate....

...and of course the discussion that we all know they don't give a crap about...

More evil than I had suspected. Unlike EQII, where only 1 server is infected with RMT, Vanguard will have all the servers linked in to this garbage. Search The Red Fools threads..

"As of right now all Vanguard servers will have access to the Live Gamer service. It's not mandatory to take part in it however."

These guys are going to kill the game. Economy and craft are very important in Vanguard, as a serious part of the gameplay. If SOE opens a Cash shop , it will be the end of vanguard.

I can say I'm playing for the last time the game. Took a month, so be it.

Thanks a lot SOE for the NGE (SWG), for Vanguard (unfinished then CS) and EQ2 (CS).

Wow, this reaks of Smedley. That man is convinced that everyone wants RMT and that it's the future of all MMOs....how clueless can that man fuckin be? Seriously. I think it's been made clear that North American/European MMO players do not appreciate "real"-RMT's (where non-fluff, game impacting items can be bought and not earned through game play) in their games at all, in any way, shape, or form.

Most people that I know that play EQ2 don't mind the Marketplace b/c it only offers fluff items, and xp pots and such, and the Exchange is relegated to it's own servers and has no effect on the other, "normal" servers so everything is peachy. But I know for a fact if they tried something like this and enabled the Exchange on all EQ2 servers they would have a MASS exodus on their hands, something like is going to happen w/ Vanguard should this really go live on all servers.

Raijin keeps saying that it is going live on all Vanguard servers but that "participation is not mandatory"....what a shitty justification that is. No, you don't HAVE to buy stuff, but people that earn their gear through game play will most definitely have a big problem if someone can just go buy the gear that they spent hours playing for.

I've always stood up for SoE, I think they got a really bad rap w/ the CU/NGE debacles b/c when you do some research you find that it was really LucasArts that initiated that proccess, and then they caught all that flack for the Station Exchange on EQ and EQ2 when it really wasn't such a big deal b/c they kept it seperate from the rest of the game, and then people gave em shit for the Marketplace which I still don't see any problem with as long as they keep only offering fluff....but this, this is something I can't defend and it really makes me nervous b/c I have a feeling if it goes even slightly well for them in Vanguard then it's only a matter of time before it happens in EQ2.

All I can say is that if it does come to EQ2 like it is Vanguard, I will cancel my sub in a heartbeat and will never be able to defend SoE again.

Well, if they go thru with this, that's it for me.  I'll put that $15 a month toward another MMO or whatever.  I don't play collectible card games anymore because I can't afford to buy my way to victory, and I'm sure not going to pay for some virtual item just to make me competitive.

The way the MMO industry is going nowdays, I think I'll quit playing any of them and start reading books again, or spend more time with my wife, or get more sleep.

This really makes me sad.  To me, VG was the last good PvE game out there.  Now they are making it a f2p type game that you have to p2p.  Stupid SOE.

May contain nuts.

Wow ... just as VG was starting to have somewhat of a renaissance, SOE are taking the old dog out back and shooting it.

That's another MMO I can strike off my 'currently playing' list.

This isn't an item mall.  It's more analogous to selling your account on Ebay, except that it gives an official means to do it through SOE rather than Ebay.  I wouldn't be surprised if SOE were to go full cash shop for the game, but this isn't it.

If none of you have played EQ2 since they implemented this there. Please shut up. I'll tell you why this is awesome in the game. People buy crap online, characters, items, money from other players on EVERY mmo. There is no exception. Now here is the good thing here, you do NOT have 15,000 little chinese people messaging you asking you to visit their web-page. Before they implemented this into EQ2, it was like WOW is still to this very day. You get 15 tells as soon as you log in asking you to visit their site for cheap gold. EQ2 I haven't receieved one of these since they did this. I'm not saying it totally solved the problem, but WoW's way of doing it (suing people) doesn't work, those little chinese people are back at it in 3 days time trying to sell you gold.

If this cuts even 1/4 of the little chinese bots messages I get, I love it. If you hate it, go play WoW and let the red army assault you.

This is exactly it.

It's essentially the same service that they offer on their station servers.

And you know, the thing is that it's a bit incorrect that people are saying that no one wants RMT of any sort. We all know this isn't true by the level of RMT sits for many, MANY games that are out there. And it's huge business. so SOMEONE must be wanting this.

If the secondary market gets too big game companies are going to be hard pressed to continue saying no to RMT. I mean, you can't have 20 people vociferously saying "no one wants RMT, it ruins games" and then thousands upon thousands of people who are using secondary sits.

That sort of sends mixed messages.

Game companies are going to look at that while they are struggling with funding and think "wait a minute...".

RMT will be coming to more games in the future. It's the how that is yet to be seen.

So rather than just have players disable /tells or /whispers by simply checking the box in the chat tab, the solution is it add RMT to every server? Nice thought process there, professor.

If anyone is trying to say that VG players are happy about this, or indiffrent - Read teh discussion thread on the VG boards before posting nonesense.

It wouldn't be fair to every player in that game then.

I was just about to close my WoW sub and start paying for VG.

Guess not :(

Playing: Single-players.
Played: A lot.
Beta tested: Freaking everything.
Looking forward to: Nothing.

SOE can go to hell for all I care! I am so done with this company now. For good!

If people cannot see the major implications of legal RMT in games, then they are a lost cause as well.

The very basic essence of gaming is that it brings people together from all layers of society.

In games everyone is equal. If you are a poor bloke from the block... or some rich guy living in a grand villa.

It didn't matter ingame. Everyone is equal. Everyone has the same chances.

RMT is the end of all that! It kills the spirit and community in games and turns them into Real Life about Capitalism.

It becomes all about people that have the biggest credit card account.

For me. That is not gaming anymore. Nothing fun to be had when it has come down to all but Corporate Greed.

And with this. In essence. MMORPG games start to loose their very soul.

Can someone explain in laymans terms what this means ?

Does it mean that I can purchase APW items with RL money instead of questing and really raiding hard to get them ?

If so this does undermine the spirit of an MMO and I will cancel my subscription

Exactly.

And I agree with your on a level playing field, no matter what part of the socio-economic stratum you happen to populate.  Personally, I can't compete, nor would I want to if I could, with people who have enough money to buy their way to the top.  I want a game that is based on what I can do, not based on my bank account.

I'm not going to cancel my account immediately, but I will be closely watching how this effects the game and will cancel if it has even the slightest negative effect.

Very disapointing for me, I'd just wanted to start getting into this game.

Playing: Xsyon.
Played:

Tried: Ultima Online, Everquest 2, Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures, Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning, Flyff, Perfect World, Silkroad Online, EVE Online, Ryzom.

not true at all

they may be equal regarding financial income

players are NOT equal for how much time they are able to invest into the game

I'm sure they are not, nor should they be. SoE should have added it to one server (allowing server transfers for those who didn't want it) or created a station exchange server for those who do want it.

They just don't have the customer service thing down yet. Do they?
