The policy is simple.  Unattended macroing is illegal.  3rd party cheating programs are illegal.  Attended macroing is most likely legal.  The only thing that really changed is that they ban people without warnings now.

They are now in a 'hectic' react mode to all these problems, which anyone who ever played UO would know were going to happen.  They are added last second changes to the game in a frantic attempt to stop exploits that anyone with half a brain knew were going to happen.

The entire city claiming process has already been ruined because guilds exploited to no end the first couple days.  You basically are forced to cheat to ever have a chance of competeing.

Steven's post sums it up perfectly. 

After 6-8 years in development you would think these things crossed their minds long before release.

Do you REALIZE how hard it is to make a game? I mean it was so hard for them that they forgot to prevent cheating.  Or let alone even think someone would be despirate enough to resort to cheating in a full loot pvp mmo.

So they went from "frown"ed upon to "could" be banned to "forbidden" to "banning" within a 9 day period.  That doesn't seem like very well thought out macroing policy for a game that spent 7 years in the oven.  There are plenty of other MMOs that have tackled the very same issues it seems like they could have learned ahead of time from other companies mistakes.

 

I think the March 9th statement is more directed at hacks than macros.

Do we have confirmation of anyone banned solely for macros?

Agreed that a clearer policy would be helpful.

You are right Locklain, it is a mockery.  I just wish it was still there, you have to go to others' quotes of him to see it.

If you view the thread, you'll see that once he was called out on his PhD in "Science", he immediately deleted his comments regarding "education" and "experience." 

I'm sure that wasn't because he made a ridiculous statement and realized how inane of a claim it was...sure.

My brother used to be a GM for Knight Online and he said it is virtually impossible to detect someone using a macro program such as auto hot key or a G15 as it does not alter game memory or packets,it simply send mouse and key clicks. The only way they can tell if you are AFK is to send you a tell and ask.....

People need to stop blatantly believing crap on this forum because they look like idiots for doing so.

This game was not in development for 7 - 8 years, in fact it was in development for about 5 or so from what I've read because of the merge between Razorwax and Aventurine.

Judging from the March 6th statement, anyone AFKing and macroing is kicked and then banned. Ender is right, Mar 9 is not directed towards macroers, but rather cheaters.

They are not banning macroers they are bannindg speed-hackers and the like. If you are afk macroing you wont get an insta-ban you'll probably be kicked a few times first. As long as you reply to GM messages while youre harvesting youll be fine and even if youre not youll probably just get a kick.
