You know I don't think enuff people put enuff emphasis on community in a MMO.

For  me community can make or break a game, and next to gameplay and graphics it is the third factor that I look for in a game.

Idk, I'm on the MMO rebound right now and looking for a game with all the above.  I'v been playing Lineage 2 and the graphics and gameplay are great I love em but the community just freaks it up for me honestly.

I hate the ppl in it and I can run around for hours without talking to anyone or anything.  I know get into a good clan and the game is a lot better but I just don't like that.

Ok so here is my question to you.

I want game good graphics, good gameplay, and a good community, whatcha got?

I was think maybe EvE but I don't know, how is the community in that one cause the lreaning curve in EvE is huge I'v heard......

Idk, give me some suggestions and your thoughts on community in MMO's.

If you dont like it, Lineage 2 is not for you. This game is about clans.

On the subjet: Community is an important part of the game but for me is more about the people i play with than the whole community of the game.

A great community is near the top of my list,a mature bunch of player's who are there to help and interact with each other.

Ohh and player's who spell words like "enough" and not "enuff"helps alot to,I dont like to spend my time in game translating l33t chat.

An opinion once stated is no longer humble.

Community is one of those things that for sure can make a poor game good and a great game poor.  Unfortunatly we as players tend to forget that the community is made by us not the devs.  Sure the devs can make it easier by allowing different communication channels and LFG features and easy to understand guild interfaces but what it all boils down to is you get out of community pretty much what you the player is willing to put into it.

If you basicly ignore everyone you come across then that games community isn't going to be great for you.  If you take the time to help the people around you out a little some of those people are going to stick around with you as they will have similar playstyle to yours and thats how friendships start.  Eventually as you come across more people and you chat and help more people that list of friends starts to grow.  Boom your getting something out of a game community because your putting a bit of effort into it.  By help I don't neccarily mean just give someone a bunch of stuff no I mean group up with them and quest/grind together in down times get to know more about the person behind the pixels (This is how you find out if they will keep up with you or leave you far behind).  When one of you has to leave thank them for the time spent doing whatever you were doing offer friendship and let them know if they need one of whatever class/skillset you are and your on just to let you know.  You will be amazed at what a difference this kind of approach makes to weather you enjoy a community or not.

Take this approach and it won't matter a great deal what game you choose as you will have community.  Go solo and again it won't matter a great deal what game you play the community will blow.

The lesser of two evils is still evil.

Wow never posted in General Discussion before but what better a topic to do so with!

Community (discussion forums / web portals) to me is a place where the main focus is to bring everyone together under basically one roof for the purpose encouraging healthy social interaction. By focusing on bringing everyone and everything together we can help build a strong feeling that hones the idea that you can discuss topics, you can share information, and you can receive communication all in one unique place tailored for your needs.

Although easier said than done, the idea is still strong. Having been the Community Manager for Age of Conan (a community known for being somewhat harsh on launch), I can tell you that communities repair and strengthen over time. Community is not just something that can be treated the same for every game but something that needs dedicated attention to the needs of the members of that community. Thus you can't take things for granted and you can't just assume it's a free ride because community is much more than just an online forum; it's a living breathing world.

Cheers!

A good community means if i'll play for five minutes, or not.

Absolutely. Remember, it doesn't matter what game you're playing, there are always different kinds of people playing all MMOs. Regardless of the fact that some MMOs are more niche and are targeted towards a certain group of players over another. If you go into the game thinking the community will be bad, you won't want to bother with trying to find out if it's true or not. Most likely, you'll just sit somewhere and read the General Chat or the Region Chat and make your judgment on how much L33T speek or Chuck Norris jokes there are.

The OP seems to be talking about general community, not a clan/guild community. Risen's response is probably the best one for determining if the community is "good" or not. If you go into the game and are faced with immature noobs or whatever you don't like everywhere you turn, then you could call it a bad community.

Its one of the most important reasons why I even play the game, if the games community is not that great I will usually stop playing right then and there.

So what games do you think has a good community?

I personally think that FFXI had the best community I ever played in.

And to tell the truth Lineage 2 most likely the worst.

But than again I havent played L2 that long.

I usually poke around MMO forums to read what the fanbois, haters and the regular bunch say to each other and how they discuss things. Seeing asshats is something to be expected in most mainstream mmo's, but some are definitively worse than others.

One of the reasons why I will never try Darkfall.

It is preferable not to travel with a dead man.

May be i was lucky but after almost 4 years of playing it i'm sure was the community or at least a big share of the whole community one of the main reasons that keep me playing L2 all this time. (NCSoft US server).

But as I said before L2 is a clan game oriented. I guess is very difficult to play L2 alone like you are doing and i don't see to much sense on doing it. Really I think NCSoft set up the Academies to help new players to get in game and reward in some way clans running them.

Probably i just have found a couple of other comunities i liked the same or more, AC2 (EU server) and LOTRO (EU Server).

Community is important for me, but I don't think I'm very critical on how the gamers in general treat each other as long as those who I play with are nice people. After playing a lot of MMORPGs, I stayed with WoW and FFXI because I still play with good groups of friends. However, strangers in WoW are generally very different from strangers in FFXI.
