For a game made by one person in 6 months, this is really good.

Open beta is ending soon I think.

I hope the creator doesn't mind my creating a thread about, but why not?  It's a good game.  And it's going to be free.  So check it out.

I've been playing this for the past few days and, I find it quite enjoyable. My in-game name is kerk. I can help you with any questions you have when the creator isn't on.  As a new player this will help you a lot http://www.realmlords.com/getting_started.html See you in-game.

Hey I think I was talking to you today.

I have a question for you.  I noticed you can buy spell scrolls (from the class trainers), is there a way to permanently learn them?  Very early on.

Take druid spells for instance.

I was looking at this game a while ago, it looks pretty good for a game made by one person. Maybe when the game releases I'll have a go at it.

The game was definatly made in 6 months. Looks like it, plays like it, and the client is as secure as it.

*not that this matters but* Comparing graphics to a different game, what would it be like? The game sounds tank.

Yes, now please welcome Vlad Vlad.

I doubt one person will be able to keep up with the maintance of the server and continue to update the game with new content. It looks very interesting but it also looks like it isn't nearly ready for a launch. From what I read on the website it looked like an awesome game though.

I don't have much to add to the thread but I'm very curious as to what you mean at the end of your statement. This game sounds tank...? Is that the new word for "sweet", or "tight" or "awesome" now?...tank?

Greets GreenChaos,

Here's the situation in a nutshell:

I kept the game fairly quiet up to closed beta.  It's not like it's some big secret... when you're an unknown developer, squalking about your game in public (especially with very little to show) just makes you look like a "wanna-be" destined to fail.  Alpha testing was in-house (literally) with friends.

Closed beta was in November-December only lasted for a couple weekends.  Open Beta started Jan 22nd (I was trying to mirror DF's dates because I knew there would be tons of traffic on MMORPG.com) with the game under the name "Yester-Quest".  It did get decent exposure.

What was unexpected is that some very knowledgeable people have been very generous in sharing their advice and opinions.  This resulted in a couple things happening:

  • Yester-Quest name and PVE themepark concept was mothballed because of over-competition.  There are simply too many of them.  I had to eat crow because YQ was my idea, but they're right.  I can see the difference in feedback already.

  • RealmLords (the original name) was picked back up and the game started being restructured for PvP (originally FFA then switched to RvR).

  • I'm starting to understand just how important "feature complete and ready for release" is to an MMO.  RealmLords still needs a ton of work.  There's no substitute for having all the features in, well tested, and working properly.

So for now, its open-beta until everything works and all required features are in.  I don't have a clue how long it will take.

NOTE: One thing that does bite about the current setup is that I don't have any sort of staging server-cluster to do development.  This means to patch, I have to take the server offline for an hour to rebuild and boot back up again.

Your doing a good job man.

I was suprised how good the game was with the little dev time you've had with it.

Keep it up man, With the genre being as bad as it is, I hope more people try to make their own games to  toss this genre back into the 80's with home made Apple II games (imo the best time period in gaming).

Almost...  it is from the same company, and the kit was written based on MoM.

Prairie Games Torque MMO Kit, with web at www.MMOWorkshop.com

The version I use is based on TGE 1.52.

Nice , im gonna do some reading up on your site tonite.. Do you have a similar class and skill system??

Hope you can check it out when you get a chance,

RealmLords class system is quite a bit different from MoM's*.  MoM has many classes, I think like 16 or so.  RealmLords has fewer classes but they are based on a skill system.  Everyone starts with no class, then does a mix-n-match of skills from the various classes to create their personal build.

For examle, my character might be a Ranger-Warrior hybrid.  An archer with pet, wearing medium armor, but [from warrior] able to carry a heavy shield (with no penalty) and having warrior skills such as shield bash.

In order to not completely screw grouping (we want people to group, this isn't supposed to be a soloable game), the only plate wearer who gets heal spells is a Paladin.  Also, the huge dps magic users (mage and warlock) have no way to hybrid so they can also be healers.  This way the norm   tank / dps / heals grouping is preserved.

As for profession skills... at the moment Armorcrafting, weaponcrafting, jewelcrafting, tailoring, and enchanting are working (also mining and skinning).  There's a problem with herb gathering (no herbs in the game yet) and without herbs, the brewing profession (like alchemy) can't be written.

Wow....after searching around the website reading up and watching some clips on the game I have to say it looks very impressive for a game made by 1 man in 6 months. I'll definitely be trying it out

Downloaded the client. I think I'm going to try either warrior or paladin.

I have Vista and everything seems to be working fine at the moment , just patching right now though. I'll let you know when I'm actually in-game but usually the client wont even work in vista if it's not compatible so I'm going to assume everything will work since the client has.

GreenChaos if you check out the getting started section on the website it explains how but here's how you do it. Go into your inventory, (the I key) click on the scroll then drag the scroll to the spells tab and drop it into a box. Then you may wan't to put your spells in the hot bar,(the n key) so that it is easier to access the spells.

And Neverland7 you can be a paladin and a warrior just so you know. Check out the classes section on the website so you know what classes can hybrid together. And just so everyone knows if a class, let's say warrior, says that it can be with a Paladin (reqs no bow), Ranger, Renegade, this means warrior and paladin, or warrior and ranger, not Warior paladin and ranger.
